To set up a Sky Stream puck, first, unbox your device and connect the TV box to power via the provided adapter. Then, connect the Sky Stream to the TV via the HDMI, connect the box to the internet, pair the Sky remote and link your Sky account with the Sky box!
If this sounds complicated, the steps below cover everything in detail!
How to Set Up Sky Stream in Easy Steps?
Tip: For a first-time installation, we recommend following the steps consecutively!
1. Unbox Your Sky Stream!
The first step is to unbox the Sky Stream from the packaging and verify that everything needed is there.
In the Sky Stream box, you must find the TV box, power cable, remote control and HDMI cable used for the setup installation.
The remote control you receive with the Sky Stream TV box is the same as with the Sky Glass.
The power cable is standard, and the HDMI cable is 3 metres long, which is everything needed to connect and setup your Sky Stream
2. Connect the Power Line
When you unbox everything, you must locate a power outlet near your television that you’ll use to connect your Sky Stream box to electricity.
You must verify that the power socket is working well and, if possible, connect your Sky Stream box directly without any third-party connectors.
The power cable plugs into the back of your Sky Stream TV box, and the power connector must be connected tightly and securely.
Sometimes, you may be unable to turn on the Sky Stream TV box when a faulty device reroutes the power from the electrical outlet.
Note: Do not turn on the Sky Stream box just yet!
3. Connect the HDMI Cable
The final step before you turn on your Sky Stream is to connect the provided HDMI cable to the television you’ll use as an output monitor.
The HDMI cable’s connectors are the same on both sides, so you must connect your Sky Stream TV box to one of the TV’s in-built HDMI input ports.
Here’s how to set up the HDMI (video transfer) connection:
- First, connect the HDMI cable to the Sky Stream!
- Info: The HDMI port is next to the Ethernet port.
- Next, locate an empty HDMI input port on the TV.
- Connect the HDMI’s other end to the TV’s port.
- Verify that the HDMI cable is tight and secure.
When you’re ready, turn on the Sky Stream TV box, and if the correct TV source is selected, the purplish screen should appear.
If you see “no signal” or are unsure what to do next, continue reading to select the correct TV source…
4. Select the HDMI Source
Before you see the output feed of your Sky Stream box on your TV, you must select the correct HDMI input source from the TV’s menu.
On most TVs, there is a “Source” or “Input” button on the remote, which allows you to cycle through the available television inputs and sources.
Alternatively, you can access the sources menu on your TV through the settings, and when you do, select the HDMI port where your Sky Stream is connected.
Info: You must see the screen “Let’s get connected.”
5. Connect to the Internet
When you see “Let’s get connected,” everything is done correctly.
Now that we know how to set up Sky Stream puck, it’s time to connect the box to the internet.
You need to use one of the options as per your broadband, home setup and internet connection.
Here are the choices available:
Sky Broadband Customer
If you’ve got a Sky Hub, your Sky Stream can easily connect to the internet by selecting this option.
But this method won’t work if you don’t have a Sky Broadband internet connection.
WiFi Using Password
The most common choice users select is to connect to the WiFi using the password, which works with any wireless router.
When you select this option, your Sky Stream will scan for available WiFi and prompt you to insert the correct password, connecting the Sky box to WiFi.
Ethernet Cable
The best possible type of connection is the Ethernet cable, which directly connects your Sky Stream box to the router.
However, you need a long enough Ethernet cable to connect both devices, which is not supplied in the box of your Sky Stream.
Note: Verify that your Sky Stream box is connected to the internet before proceeding!
6. Pair Remote to Sky Box
When your Sky Stream box is connected to the internet, you must pair your Sky remote to the TV box in order to control various features.
The pairing is straightforward, and you only need to make sure that you’ve inserted a fresh pair of AA batteries into your Sky Stream remote control.
To pair the remote to Sky Stream, hold the 1 and 3 buttons!
You must hold both buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds, and your Sky remote will get paired to the Sky Stream box.
When done, you can control your Sky Stream TV box without hassle!
7. Pair the Remote to Your TV
Shortly after pairing your Sky Stream remote to your TV box, you’ll be prompted to connect the remote to your TV as well.
This will completely eliminate the need for your TV remote, and you can only use your Sky Stream remote to control everything.
So, when you’re asked to connect your Sky remote to your TV, select “Yes” and follow the steps on the screen to complete the process.
When ready, you can control the volume and power state of your connected TV by only using one remote.
Note: If the pairing fails, reboot your Sky Stream box and try again!
8. Link Your Sky Account
The final step before streaming Sky content is to link your Sky account to the Sky Stream so you can start receiving the service.
When you pair the remote, you’ll be sent to the “Link your account” with code numbers and instructions.
- So, to link your Sky account with the Sky Stream box, go to https://sky.com/activate and sign into your Sky account.
Then, insert the code you see on your TV screen, and your account will be linked in a couple of seconds.
To access the Sky web page, your device must be connected to the internet, and you can use any device such as a smartphone, computer or laptop.
If your activation fails, you can select the “Skip & set up later” and then go into the settings of your Sky Stream to complete the process.
Note: When ready, you’ll be sent to the home screen of your Sky Stream TV box!
Sky Stream Setup Not Working?
That was how to set up Sky Stream box correctly, and if the setup fails, something on your side may be causing the issue.
The most common problem during the Sky Stream TV box setup is the internet connection, so you must verify that your internet or wireless network is online!
Don’t forget that you can always reboot the Sky Stream puck, start the setup process, and switch to another type of internet connection.
If you have an Ethernet cable, test whether the setup will pass through, or if you’re using a Sky Hub, select the correct option.
