If you don’t know what the Eero Pro 6 red light means and how to fix it, this guide is for you!
Although the eero Pro 6 setup rarely encounters issues, the red light is an indication of an underlying network problem.
The red-colored signal can be a sign of a lost modem connection, a temporal network outage, or a settings issue with the particular eero.
So, let’s peek into the quick solution!
To solve the red light on your Eero Pro 6, power cycle the faulty Eero unit, check the primary router’s connection and factory reset the network modem. If the issue is still there, check if there’s an outage from your ISP.
Let’s investigate the issue further!
Why is the eero 6 Pro Red Light On Persistently?
An uninterrupted red light signal produced by your eero Pro 6 indicates that the unit doesn’t have a connection or that your internet service is down.
The eero mesh network consists of multiple eero nodes and a primary router that connects with a network unit, such as a modem.
Here’s a list of all causes for the red light on the eero 6:
How to View the Eero Device Usage?
The wide range of functionalities available within the Eero app includes a device usage meter, that can be used to monitor the activity of your Eero child nodes or the router.
So, to access the meter, launch the Eero application on your mobile device, go to “Network” and tap on “Activity.”
All devices that are wirelessly added or directly connected via Ethernet cable will appear in the “Activity” tab, and you will be able to check how much data is used.
eero Pro 6 Red Light – Proven Ways to Fix
Tip: It’s very easy to solve the issue as long as you follow the steps chronologically!
1. Reconnect the eero Node/Parental Unit
The red light might be persistently coming on due to a lost connection of the Eero child node or parental unit in your Eero setup.
Unlike the primary router that directly pairs with the modem and receives data, each of the nodes in your mesh network must remain persistently connected.
Before attempting to reconnect any of the nodes, determine whether the Eero device displaying the red light is a child node or the primary router.
The significant difference is that the primary Eero router is wired directly to one of the yellow ports on your network ISP’s modem or router.
How to Reconnect an Eero Child Node?
- To reconnect an eero node wirelessly, go to “Add Device” within the mobile app.
- To reconnect a wired eero node, unplug the Ethernet cable and plug it back in.
How to Reconnect an Eero Parental Unit?
- Disconnect the coaxial cable from the parental unit.
- Unplug the other end of the cable from the router.
- Wait for 30 seconds while the eero is disconnected.
- Re-attach the coaxial cable on both ends and test.
How to Fix Coaxial Issues On the Eero?
In case your wired eero child node keeps losing connection, attempt the following:
- Plug the coaxial cable into a different router port.
- Replace the Coaxial cable plugged with the eero.
- Check the service port on the eero for obstruction.
Note: You can track the connection status of the eero node by the “Service” lamp on the front!
2. Power Cycle the Disconnected Eero
If the culprit eero keeps displaying a red light, it’s recommended to perform a power circulation of the unit’s hardware, by unplugging the power cable.
When disconnected from the supply for long enough, the hardware of the eero discharges, and all the system services are re-launched.
Here’s how to power cycle any eero in your mesh installation:
- Unplug the Power cable from the back of your eero.
- Disconnect the other end from the electrical outlet.
- Wait for 60 seconds while the cable is disconnected.
- Reconnect the unplugged eero unit to the A/C supply.
- Wait until the “Power” status lamp of the eero flashes.
Also: Power Cycle the Network Device!
In case the eero unit keeps losing reception, conduct an identical power circulation procedure with the network modem or Wi-Fi router.
This will address issues with the transmission and decoding of network data, allowing the eero device to withdraw service without interruptions.
Tip: Inspect the condition of the power adapters used in the eero setup!
3. Temporarily Suspend the Service
A potential service failure of the network device will also suspend the internet of all eeros in your mesh system until further notice.
Thus, to address problems that might have occurred during the conversion of network data sent from the provider, you should unplug the network unit’s coax.
Note: The network device can either use a direct Ethernet connection or a Coaxial cable!
Here’s how to reset the service of the network device in easy steps:
- Unplug your service cable from the router’s back.
- Unplug the other end of the cable from the outlet.
- Wait for 30 seconds while the router is unplugged.
- Check if the “Coverage” or “Service” lamp flashes.
Most routers generally have a local coverage lamp that indicates the internal connection with the network router or the modem.
The pulsating orange or white status of the coverage lamp indicates that the router is currently starting up.
Once it turns solid, the network is fully online.
Alert: All devices paired to the network will lose reception while the service cable is unplugged.
4. Reinstall the Eero Mobile Application
You can address existing failures with the eero mobile application by uninstalling the platform from your device and downloading it from the store again.
The fresh reinstallation will resolve the data corruption of the system files, fix issues with the firmware, and rebuild the integrity of the eero application.
How to Reinstall the Eero App On Android?
- Launch the “Settings” application on your Android mobile.
- Next, navigate to the “Applications” or the “Storage” tab.
- Locate the eero application in the list of installed services.
- After that, hold the app until the actions menu shows up.
- Choose “Uninstall” and download eero from Google Play.
How to Reinstall the eero App On Apple’s iOS?
- Locate the Eero app on the homepage of your device.
- Hold the application until the drop-down menu appears.
- Choose the “Remove this app” option from the section.
- Launch the App Store application on your Apple device.
- Search “eero” and press the cloud icon to install the app.
Alert: Your mobile requires a stable connection to the internet for downloading apps!
5. Force an eero Factory Reset
In case the red lamp is still on, you should consider restoring the eero mesh setup to factory defaults using the built-in reset button.
Well, fortunately, the factory reset procedure on eero parental units and child nodes remains the same, since both devices’ hardware is identical.
Here’s how to factory reset any eero unit in your setup:
- Locate the pinhole on the back of the eero unit.
- Insert a paperclip into the pinhole of the eero.
- Press the reset button and hold for 15 seconds.
- Release the button after the eero’s LED blinks.
- Wait until the factory initialization is complete.
Once the eero unit is reset, launch the eero application and press “Add Device.”
Follow the instructions to re-add the unit and establish a connection with the other existing eero units.
Tip: You can track the connection status of all connected eeros within the “Devices” tab!
6. Wire the Eeros Directly (Workaround)
If your wireless eeros are losing connection persistently, you should consider wiring the eero with the parental unit directly.
This will significantly improve the connection and resolve frequent connection drops that are interfering with the reception of the wirelessly connected eero unit.
Here’s how to wire an eero child node directly to the parental unit:
- Position the eero unit close to the parental node in the setup.
- Connect an Ethernet cable to the service port on the Eero.
- Plug the other end into the “Service” port on the Eero router.
- Launch the Eero app, tap “Add Device” and choose “Wired.”
The Eero parental unit has a total of two Ethernet ports, allowing for a direct connection with the network router and up to one Eero child node.
For strong coverage, it is recommended to maintain a wired connection between the primary router and one of the child nodes at all times.
Quick Recap
Whenever the Eero Pro 6 red light appears, reconnect the Eero node, check the coverage range of the parental unit, and power cycle the network modem.
You should also trigger a factory reset on the primary Eero unit.
