If a simple restart does not work, we recommend you figure out the true cause of the problem. It will allow you to select the appropriate solution.
Why Xfinity Mobile Phone Won’t Activate
When your mobile phone won’t activate, there may be problems with your SIM or phone. Or, you simply haven’t connected to Xfinity.
Your device may still be locked to your previous carrier. If this isn’t the case, your problem may be due to the following:
1. SIM Contacts Issue
You may be using a different SIM and not the one sent to you by Xfinity. Your SIM card may not be properly installed as well.
2. Not Connected to Xfinity
If you transfer your number, your previous carrier may have forgotten to connect it to Xfinity. Or, you entered incorrect details, such as your name, account number, and transfer PIN.
3. Signal Confusion
Either there’s a service outage in your area, or the Internet connection is out. Your device won’t be able to activate in such cases.
4. Phone Issues
You may be facing some hitches that require restarting your phone or contacting customer support.
Now you know the possible reasons your Xfinity mobile won’t activate. Let us discuss what you can do to clear the issue.
How to Fix Xfinity Mobile Activation Problems
Restarting your device is the simplest, most effective way to fix any problem. This is also true with Xfinity mobile activation problems.
To restart your phone, long-press the power button until you see a pop-up on the screen. Choose the Restart option to restart your phone automatically.
You can also select Power Off to turn off your phone, then long-press the power button again to turn it on.
If this does not solve the issue, follow the troubleshooting steps below.
Solution #1: Insert Your Xfinity Mobile SIM Card Properly
The first thing you want to check is if you inserted your Xfinity Mobile SIM card properly.
Activation problems can occur if your SIM is not properly inserted into your phone.
The contacts of your card and tray should match up so the SIM can start working allowing you to complete the activation process.
Here’s what you should do:
- Power off your smartphone.
- Locate the SIM card tray and pop it out using your ejector tool.
- Remove your Xfinity mobile SIM card.
- Reinsert your SIM card properly.
- Push the SIM tray back into the phone.
Note: Ensure the SIM card tray is in the same position as when you removed it. It only fits one way.
Also, it should go in easily. You don’t have to force the tray back in.
Solution #2: Select Xfinity Mobile as Your Carrier
If you are using your current smartphone for your Xfinity SIM, you must first change the carrier settings.
Luckily, you can change the network carrier on your phone.
For the most part, carrier selection is automatic. However, there are instances when you’ll need to do it yourself.
Here’s what you should do:
- Go to Settings, then select Mobile Data and Mobile Network.
- Turn off the Automatic option.
- You will see a list of available carriers.
- Select Xfinity Mobile from the list and check network speed.
- Once done, your phone will only use that network.
Note: If the Xfinity network is unavailable, you will have no service on your phone. It means you can’t make phone calls, send texts, or surf the Internet.
Solution #3: Use Set Up Over WiFi During Activation
If activation doesn’t go smoothly, try going over the process. But, instead, choose Set up over WiFi during activation.
Here are a few things you should check before moving on to this troubleshooting step.
- Go to the WiFi Settings of your device.
- Once you see the WiFi name, connect your device.
- Select your home network’s WiFi name.
- Connect by entering your password.
- If you changed the password during activation, use the new one.
Note: If you have activated your Xfinity Mobile, but it still isn’t working, confirm that you see your carrier on the top left screen.
Otherwise, proceed to the next step.
Solution #4: Update Your Carrier Settings
Each carrier comes with its own set of configurations so your phone will connect properly to the network.
Your phone should download the settings as soon as it detects a new carrier. However, it’s not all the time that this happens.
If you have tried restarting your phone and setting up your device, but the issue persists, follow the steps below.
- Connect to a WiFi network.
- Go to Settings and select General.
- Open About.
- Wait for the Carrier Settings Update to appear.
- Tap Update.
Note: Make sure you choose Set Up Over WiFi (not Set Up Over Cellular) when activating your device.
Solution #5: Set Your Phone to CDMA Only
Which carrier sold your phone? If you bought from AT&T and T-Mobile, then you’re on a GSM network.
On the other hand, Verizon sells phones equipped with GSM and CDMA technologies. If you purchased your phone from Verizon, be sure to set it to CDMA only.
- Open up the Settings on your phone.
- Move down to Network and Internet section.
- Go into the Mobile Network option.
- Go into your preferred network type.
Tip: Choose whichever settings match your location. And, remember to save when you are done.
Note: It’s important to know what kind of technology your Xfinity mobile uses because you can use your CDMA phone on a GSM network and vice versa.
Solution #6: Reset Your Phone to Factory Settings
Performing a simple data reset can help solve issues related to activation. It erases all data in your phone, so we recommend trying other solutions first.
If none of the above troubleshooting steps work, proceed to reset your smartphone.
Android:
- Go to Settings.
- Locate Factory Reset.
- Follow the on-screen prompts.
iPhone:
- Open Settings.
- Tap General and select Reset.
- Choose Erase all content and settings.
- Enter your Apple ID and password.
- Confirm that you want to reset your phone to factory settings.
Note: Back up your phone before you perform a factory reset so that you can restore previously downloaded and purchased apps.
