Is the WPS button on Xfinity router not working? We got you covered!

WPS lets you connect devices to your router without typing your network name and password. If the WPS button fails, it indicates a malfunctioning button or an incorrect setting.

To get the WPS button to work on your Xfinity router, you need to ensure that it’s activated in your router’s settings. You can also use the WPS PIN connection alternative as it’s a more secure way.

Alright, let’s get into the details of the solutions!

Here are eight solutions to fix the non-working WPS button on your Xfinity router. We arranged them from the easiest complex. Let’s get started!

#1: Ensure That The WPS Button is Activated on Your Router

To get started with troubleshooting your Xfinity router, ensure the WPS button is activated. If the feature is turned off intentionally or accidentally, it will not work.

To activate the WPS button on your router, follow these steps:

  1. Locate the WPS button on your Xfinity router.
  2. Press and hold the WPS button until the LED light blinks.
  3. Find your device’s WPS button or PIN code.
  4. If your device has a WPS button, press it.
  5. If it has a PIN code, enter the PIN code on the router’s admin interface.
  6. The device will be connected to the router.
Pro Tip: Using WPS is a convenient way to connect to your router, however, it’s not the most secure.

#2: Check Your Device is Compatible with WPS

check if your device is compatible with wps

Not all devices support WPS, and incompatibility is one of the most common reasons why it’s not working.

There are also some devices that can have different requirements or limitations regarding WPS connectivity.

To check if your device is compatible with WPS, follow these steps:

  1. Look for a WPS logo or label on your device or its manual.
  2. If you see the logo or label, your device supports WPS.
  3. Check if your device has a physical WPS button or a software option to enable WPS.
  4. Use them to connect to your router.
  5. Check if your device supports the same WPS method as your router.

If your device is compatible with WPS, you can connect them to your router by pushing the button. If this doesn’t work, proceed to the other methods below.

#3: Enable WPS on Your Router’s Dashboard

If you’re having trouble with the WPS feature on your router, check if it has been turned off or blocked by certain settings in your router’s dashboard. Make sure everything is set up correctly to prevent issues.

To enable WPS, follow these steps:

  1. Open your web browser.
  2. Type 10.0.0.1 to access your Xfinity router’s admin interface.
  3. Log in to the admin interface using your username and password.
  4. Click on the Gateway tab.
  5. Click on the Connections tab.
  6. Click on the WiFi tab.
  7. Under WPS, select the Enable WPS checkbox.
  8. Click Save.

Now, connect your device to your router using the WPS button and see if it fixes the problem.

Note: Keep your WPS-enabled devices secure by regularly changing your WiFi network password and keeping your router’s firmware up to date.

#4: Disable the WPS Feature on Your Router and Reenable It

If you’re still experiencing issues with your Xfinity router, disable and reenable the WPS feature. This will reset the router and fix any glitches or errors.

Note: Disabling the WPS feature affects devices that rely on this feature for easy connectivity, but it enhances your network security by preventing unauthorized access.

To do this, simply follow these steps:

  1. Follow the steps in Solution #3.
  2. Instead of selecting the Enable WPS checkbox, uncheck it.
  3. Click Save.
  4. Go back to the WPS settings on your router.
  5. Tick off the Enable WPS checkbox again.
  6. Click Save.

After enabling the WPS feature, connect your device to your router using the WPS button and see if the issue is resolved.

If the WPS button isn’t working, there’s another method to connect your device to your router.

#6: Use the PIN Code Entry WPS Method

use a pin code entry

Try the PIN code entry method to connect your device to your router using WPS. This method generates a PIN code on your device.

It’s a simple process to quickly and easily fix the WPS button not working on Xfinity router error.

To use the PIN code entry method, first, you need to generate a WPS PIN on your device.

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Find the WPS PIN code generator in your device’s settings menu or a dedicated app.
  2. Enter the SSID and security key of your WiFi network.
  3. Click on the Generate PIN button.
  4. The WPS PIN generator will generate an eight-digit PIN code.
  5. Copy and enter the WPS PIN code on your router’s admin interface.
Note: Not all devices have a WPS PIN code generator. If your device doesn’t have it, use the WPS button on your router instead.

Using the PIN code entry method

  1. On your router, select Gateway.
  2. Click Connection, then WiFi.
  3. Scroll down to WPS and ensure it’s enabled.
  4. Click on Add WPS Client.
  5. Select PIN number as the connection option.
  6. Enter the PIN code you generated on your device.
  7. Click Pair and wait for a few seconds.
Note: The WPS PIN code is a one-time code valid for a few minutes. You must generate a new PIN if you do not connect your device within a few minutes.

#7: Change Your Router’s Channel

change your router channel

Changing your router’s channel sometimes helps improve its performance and fix any interference issues affecting its functionality.

It also helps resolve conflicts with nearby routers using the same channel.

  2. Log in using your username and password.
  3. Click on the Gateway tab.
  4. Click Connections.

  6. Under Channel, select your desired channel number.
  7. Click on Save.
Pro Tip: Choose a router channel based on your location and the environment around your house. The best options are channels 1, 6, and 11 because they are non-overlapping.

#8: Update Your Router’s Firmware

The last solution is updating your router’s firmware. It will fix any bugs or errors causing the WPS button to stop working.

Here’s what you need to do to update your router’s firmware.
