There are several situations when you may want to transfer Starlink to new owner. If you have been using the Starlink internet for a while now, you know that transferring can be a bit problematic.
In most cases, you will not be allowed to transfer even if you have valid reasons.
However, we have a secret way you can transfer your account. The official way to transfer the Starlink account to the new owner involves contacting customer support.
The active account owner must initiate the process by providing the contact of the new owner.
The Starlink team must approve the transfer after considering the new address and the account status of the current owner.
For the transfer to be completed completely, the account should not have any outstanding bills.
Further, the account should be transferred to an address where Starlink services are available.
Reasons for Transferring Starlink to a New Owner
So what are the main reasons for the Starlink transfer ownership push?
To start with, you may find yourself needing to transfer ownership if you want to change your service provider.
This is the most common reason although there are plenty of other reasons why people choose to transfer their Starlink accounts.
The other common reasons include:
- You are moving to an area where Starlink is not available
- You no longer need the service and want to sell it to someone who does
- You are upgrading to a different internet service provider
- You experiencing financial difficulties and need to sell the system to pay off debt
- You are buying a new Starlink kit and want to resell the old one
- You want to give it as a gift to someone who needs it.
If you are in any of these situations, you are allowed to transfer your Starlink account to someone else.
However, there are specific steps and procedures that must be followed to transfer the account.
Conditions for Transferring Starlink Account
If you have been wondering if Starlink is transferable, the answer is yes. Transferring services with Starlink involves the process of changing the ownership and responsibility of the internet system.
The new owner will take over the account and be responsible for paying monthly bills.
Any outstanding balances on the hardware will also be paid by the new owner. In order to transfer services, the following requirements must be met:
✅ The account must be paid-in-full and in good standing
This means that there should be no past-due payments or other issues with the account.
✅ The service address must be the same
The newly requested service address must have network availability.
✅ The transfer must be approved by Starlink
Starlink reserves the right to approve or deny service transfers based on its own internal policies and procedures. Once these requirements have been met, you can visit the Starlink support website to initiate the transfer process.
You will be required to provide certain information, such as the new owner’s contact information, as well as proof of purchase for the system.
Steps to Transfer Starlink to New Owner
There are a few steps you must take to transfer the account to the new owner. Both the old and new owners will be involved in the process.
Interestingly, it takes less than 24 hours to get the process completed. Below are the steps to transfer your Starlink account.
Step #1 Contact Starlink Customer Support
The current owner will need to reach out to Starlink customer support to initiate the transfer process.
They can do this by visiting the Starlink support website or by calling the customer service hotline.
If the owner does not initiate the process nothing will happen. This means the account being transferred should still be active.
How to initiate the transfer
- Visit the Starlink support page
- Click on Support in the top Left Corner
- Tap on Account Information
- Scroll down to Transfer Account
- Open the account transfer request form
Note: This step can only be undertaken by the current account holder and not any other person.
Step #2 Provide Necessary Information
The current owner will need to provide certain information to Starlink in order to complete the transfer.
This may include the new owner’s contact information, as well as proof of purchase for the system.
Ideally, the information you provide may be decided by Starlink support. However, the most important piece of information you must provide is the email address of the new owner.
Step #3 Pay Any Outstanding Balances
The current owner will need to make sure that the account is paid-in-full and in good standing.
This means that all outstanding balances must be paid and there should be no past-due payments. You can either make payments on the website or from the app.
If you have a monthly payment cycle, you can easily change to instant payment in your account.
Just go to your billing and edit payment methods and you will be able to carry out the advanced payment.
How to update payment on Starlink on the website
- Log in to your Starlink account page.
- Select the “Billing” tab.
- Select Advanced Payment
- Choose a Method of Payment
- Pay all outstanding amounts
Update payment through the Starlink App
- Tap on the Account Icon in the top left corner
- Tap on the Pencil Icon next to “Billing”.
- Tap on Advanced Payment
- Follow the prompts to complete the payment
Step #4 Verify Service Address
After completing the payments, you will have to verify the service address.
Starlink specifies that the service address must be the same as the old one or be covered by Starlink services.
You might be required to provide the new service address or update it in the account.
How to update the new service address in your Starlink account:
- Log into your Starlink account.
- Navigate to Your Starlinks
- Select “Manage” next to the Starlink you wish to update
- Select Service Address
- Select the Pencil Icon
- Enter the New Address.
- Save Changes
Note: This process does not apply to users with RV and Maritime service plans.
Further, your request may be unsuccessful if the location you are transferring to does not support Starlink services.
Step #5 Confirm the Transfer
After the transfer process has been approved, the Starlink team will reach out to the new owner. The new owner must confirm receipt of the account from the previous owner.
To do this, the new owner must complete a few steps. If you are the new owner, the steps to complete are outlined below.
The steps that the new owner must take are as follows
- Customer service will email you as the new account holder with a form to complete asking for your details.
- Complete the form to verify your name and location
- You will be required to complete another form to Verify your email and set a password.
- Once this is completed, log in to the app and add your new service address.
- Make sure and add your billing details within 7 days, or the account may be canceled.
- The process will be complete and you can now use Starlink services
With that, you will have successfully transferred the account to the new owner.
Make sure that you remove your credit cards if you are selling to someone else. Failure to update payment methods may result in your accounts being charged.
Step #6 Alternative Way to Transfer Starlink Account
There is an alternative way to transfer the Starlink account to a new owner. However, this is not an official method. If you choose to follow this option, make sure the Starlink team is not informed.
All you have to do is initiate the email address change as the account owner. Once this is complete, initiate the billing address change.
After changing the email to one of the new owners and transferring the address, you can hand over the responsibility to the new owner.
How to change your personal email
- Login to your Starlink Account
- Click on the User Profile in the top right corner
- Select Personal Details
- Tap on the Pencil Icon next to the email address
- Enter the new user email address
- Click on Save to confirm changes.
Note: Once you confirm the change of email address, all future communications will be sent to the new email.
When updating your address, you must get a confirmation from the newly set up email address. After updating the email, you can update the address.
To update the address follow the steps in Step #4 above and you will be ready. The new owner will also have to update the payment processing method.
Summary
Now you know how to transfer Starlink to a new owner in an official manner.
However, you may also choose to use the unofficial method of account transfer. In either situation, you will be able to transfer your account to the new owner.
It is important to note that the account transfer feature is only available subject to Starlink’s terms of service and that can change.
