Reasons Why You Aren’t Receiving Messages on Textra
There are a couple of reasons that paint the picture of why you’re unable to receive messages on Textra.
Here are the most common reasons why:
Textra Isn’t Set as the Default Messaging App
The most common issue would be because Textra isn’t set as the default messaging app.
Contrary to what most people think, Textra doesn’t use WiFi or the internet. It’s a program that you can use in place of your default messaging app.
If it’s not set as the default, there will be lapses in the messages you send or you receive.
The Number Sending it to You is Blacklisted
If your Textra is not receiving texts from one person, they could be blacklisted or blocked.
Since you’ll need to make Textra your primary messaging app, all configuration settings, including numbers restricted and allowed are going to be carried over by the app.
Textra Isn’t Permitted
Following the setting up of Textra as the default app, you need to allow or permit it to function just like how regular SMS or messaging works. If it’s not allowed/permitted,
Disconnected From the Internet (MMS)
If you can’t send or receive multimedia messages (MMS), then it’s because of the fact that you’re not connected to mobile data.
MMS requires mobile data to function, so, ensure that you have a stable and secure connection.
These are among the most common reasons why you’re not receiving text messages with Textra.
And now that you’re aware of these, let’s proceed to the complete and thorough discussion of how you can fix it.
How to Fix Textra Not Receiving Messages
Should you be stuck in the dilemma of Textra being unable to work, then, don’t worry!
We’ll approach this manner comprehensively for us to be able to go through everything without missing any factor involved.
Step #1: Check if Notifications Are Enabled
The problem could simply be with the notifications. Check your phone’s settings and see if all notifications are coming through.
This could be where the problem is, not with the Textra app. So, to be sure that all notifications are coming through, follow these steps:
- Go to Settings > Notifications.
- Check if Textra Notifications are activated.
- Enable/Disable the notifications for all apps, including Textra.
Enabling and disabling it replenishes the setting, allowing the notification settings to reset and refresh.
Step #2: Disable the Default Messaging App
Then, what you want to do next is disable the default messaging app of your phone.
While there’s no actual way to do this, what you want to do is set Textra as the Default Messaging app.
Here’s the process of how it’s done.
- On your phone, go to Settings > Apps.
- Then, from there, select Choose Default Apps > Messaging.
- By default, you’ll see the Messaging app there.
- Select Textra as your messaging app.
By doing this, you’re setting your phone to have Textra as the main messaging app, instead of the usual messaging.
What this simply means is Textra will be forced to be used to send and receive text messages.
Step #3: Turn Off or Disable Rich Communications
The next thing you want to do is to disable RCS or Rich Communication Settings (RCS) on your phone.
To do this, go to the Messages app and click the three (3) dots on the upper-right hand side of the screen, and then select Settings/Chat Settings.
From there, you’ll see the option to Disable Rich Communication Settings.
Step #4: Toggle “Advanced Messaging”
Then, what you want to do next is disable Advanced Messaging on your message.
Even if you’ve already set Textra as the default, some of the features of messaging could still take effect. So, it would be just right to disable it.
Here’s the process of disabling Enhanced or Advanced Messaging on your phone:
- On your phone, access Messages.
- Then, select the three-dotted menu on the upper-right side.
- After that, choose Settings > Enhanced Messaging.
- By default, it will be enabled. Disable it by tapping the radio button.
Step #5: Clear Cache and Cookies of the Textra App
Then, what you want to do next is clear the cache, cookies, and data of the Textra app so that you’ll be able to start on a clean slate.
You can clear the cache, cookies, and data by going into Settings > Apps > Textra. From there, click on Clear Data and Clear Cache at the bottom part of the page.
Step #6: Check For Possible Interfering Apps
Last, but not least is to check if you have any apps or programs that could naturally be interfering with Textra’s SMS functionality.
Some of these apps and programs include, but are not limited to:
- AfterSchool
- CM Security
- IntelliRing
- Lightflow
- GO Speed
- DU Booster
NOTE: These apps have been reported to have caused an interference with the sending/receiving of texts (notifications).
So, what you have to do is disable the notifications of these apps so that Textra’s will be crisp, clear, and accurate.
You can disable it by going into Settings > Notifications. Then, toggle the radio button beside Notifications to turn it off.
That’s just about it! Follow this 6-step process and never have any troubles or problems in sending or receiving messages on Textra any longer!
Textra is Still Not Receiving Messages, What Should I Do?
Should the 5-step process above be ineffective in solving the problem, then the next best thing to do is uninstall and reinstall the Textra app on your phone.
This process is a lot like when you clear cache, cookies, and data, but this process is like an overall fix.
To be able to uninstall and reinstall the Textra app, follow these steps:
- Press and hold the Textra app icon until the “x” appears.
- Click “x” or “uninstall” from the list of options.
- Wait for the system to remove the app completely.
- Once done, download the Textra app again.
- Then, wait for the download to finish.
- Reconfigure the app by logging in and arranging all settings and features.
You’ll find this procedure the best and most effective wraparound in case the initial steps didn’t solve it.
In case it still doesn’t work, as your last resort, contact Textra’s customer service support team.
You can reach them by going to their website, and by clicking the Support & Feedback tab on the right side. Alternatively, you can follow and contact them on Twitter.
Does Textra Need WiFi For Texting?
No, Textra does not require a WiFi connection for it to work. It functions like regular SMS or text messages, so you wouldn’t need WiFi for it.
However, if you’re going to use it for the sending or receiving of MMS, you’ll need to be connected to Mobile Data.
If Textra is unable to get you the messages you should have received, check if the number it’s coming from is blacklisted, then, try toggling the settings of your notification, as well as the configuration settings of the Textra app.
