The moment you notice your Sky Q Hub internet light flashing orange, don’t panic. Oftentimes, the orange colour doesn’t necessarily translate to a downright bad connection.

Just like you, a lot of people experience this dilemma regularly. That is why in this guide, we’ll not only give you information on what this colour means, we’ll also help you get rid of it!

If the internet of your Sky Q Hub is flashing orange, it means that it’s unable to connect to a permanent internet connection. So, test your Sky connection, then, perform a power cycle or a restart of the hub. Check the cables and wires and perform a factory reset if necessary.

Before we resolve this problem, do you know why your Sky Q Hub is flashing an orange light?

Does this automatically mean that you’re having a bad connection? And is it the same when the power light is flashing orange or amber?

What Does it Mean When the Power Light is Colour Orange?

When you notice the power light turned orange or amber, it means that your hub is in recovery mode. This usually happens after a firmware or software upgrade.

This is a different case from when you see your Sky Q Hub’s internet light turn orange. In most Sky Q Hubs, the power light would be the leftmost light, while the internet light would be the middle light.

Why the Internet Light is Flashing Orange on Sky Hub

The lights on your Sky Q Hub can tell you a lot about the type of connection you have. Just by knowing and understanding the meaning of these lights, you’ll easily be able to get to the problem’s root cause.

The orange (amber) colour on the internet light on your hub means that the hub is sensing a connection.

This light basically means that your hub is attempting to connect to a permanent and stable internet source.

After two (2) minutes, this orange-coloured light should turn white, which signifies that your Hub has successfully connected to a steady connection.

However, there are instances where this flashing amber or orange light doesn’t turn white at all.

So, how do you fix it when you notice that the internet light on your Hub flashes orange consistently? What can you do for it to go straight and forth to have stable and permanent connectivity?

Sky Q Hub Internet Light Flashing Orange – Complete Fix

Unlike other guides you’ll see online, this tutorial will be comprehensive and will address all the possible culprits that could be causing this to happen.

Step #1: Test Your Connection

The first step is to check your current connection. While there are other ways to do this, the best would be by accessing your Sky account and letting Sky’s technicians assess if there’s something wrong with your connection.

You can check it by signing in with your Sky ID, and then, just wait for the configuration on the next steps you have to do.

Step #2: Check for Signs of Loose Wires and Cables

Did you know that a simple loose cable can be bad enough for you to get an unstable connection?

Therefore, it’s just right to check if there are loose cables that are connected to the hub.

  1. Unplug the broadband cable from the back of the hub.
  2. Then, follow that step up by unplugging the power cord, too.
  3. Wait for about 15 to 30 seconds, then plug both back in again.

Step #3: Power Cycle the Hub

To power cycle or restart the hub, you have two (2) options: one is by the reset button and the other is by unplugging it from power.

Restarting via the Reset Button

  1. Press the reset button at the back of the Sky Q Hub.
  2. Ensure that you don’t press and hold it. Doing so will reset the gateway.
  3. Wait for the connection to re-establish.

Restarting via the Power Cable

  1. Unplug the power cable either from the wall outlet or from the back of the hub.
  2. Wait for about 30 seconds before you plug it back in again.

Step #4: Factory Reset the Hub

If those initial steps weren’t enough to solve the problem, the next step is to perform a factory reset on the hub.

What this does is it will give the hub a complete refresh, just like what its status was when it came out of the manufacturer’s factory. To do the reset, locate the reset button at the back of the hub.

Press and hold it for about 8 to 10 seconds or until the lights on the hub go off and turn back on.

From there, you just have to wait for about three (3) to five (5) minutes for the device to regain its stability.

Note: After you have factory reset the hub, every setting you have saved will be gone. This would include your SSID name and password, as well as the devices that have it on auto-connect.

If the orange colour on your Sky Q Hub is bugging you, you’ll be able to solve it efficiently and effectively using this tutorial! With this guide, you can get rid of the orange flashing colour on your hub’s internet light!

Sky Q Hub Internet Light is Still Flashing Orange

In the event that the bloody orange flashing light is persistent, the next best move is to contact Sky’s customer service department already.

There could be something wrong with the network and how they distribute the connections, not really with your hub, so be sure to contact them.

Let them know about the steps that you took in troubleshooting it so that they can give you the proper resolution faster and more urgently.

To remove the orange flashing light on your hub, check the wires and cables connected, and then perform a power cycle. Factory reset the hub if you deem it necessary.
