If your Sky landline isn’t working, check the status of your service. Remove all interference-causing devices and appliances. Then, check the colour of the “voice” light on your hub and ensure that the phone is plugged in correctly.
Restart and reset your hub if the voice light on the hub is turned off or amber in colour.

Why is My Sky Landline Not Working?
Sky is a company offering bundles of different services. Due to this, the customary reasons why your Sky landline isn’t working isn’t always a problem with the voice service.
So, what’s making this happen in the first place if it’s not a problem with voice 100% of the time?
The most common and actual reasons are the following:
- Network outage or system maintenance
- Signal interference
- Disconnected or loose wires and cables
- Damaged wires and cables
- Hardware problems (hub and landline)
These things have been reported as the most common things that could cause your Sky landline to not work or malfunction.
Now that we’re aware of this, what do we do about it? How do we fix your Sky landline that’s not working properly?
How to Fix Sky Landline Not Working
Unlike other guides you’ll find online, our guide will tackle everything that is in relation to Sky landline.
This would include the landline or the phone itself, the hub, as well as the wires and cables that connect them to one another.
Step #1: Check Your Voice Status Service
First things first – are you sure that Sky is fixed or up and running? The most common thing that people miss about it is to check the status of their service.
You can check this if you contact Sky and ask. However, the easier and faster method is by checking the status of your Sky Talk service online.
To check the status of the service in your location, follow this quick summary:
- Access a browser and open Sky Service Status Checking Page.
- Enter your landline number
- Wait for the facility to check if there’s an outage.
Once done, what you want to do next is to check the settings of your landline.
Double-Check the Landline’s Settings
Ensure that the settings of your landline are set accordingly. Check everything, including the volume, if the device is muted, if it’s set to the correct mode/tone, etc.
NOTE: The mute button is sometimes accidentally pressed. This is the same for the volume.
Step #2: Check the Setup of Your Landline
This wouldn’t be common across all Sky landline users because this will depend on the type of socket you have.
So, we’ll be discussing how your phone should be set up whether you have a pre-filtered socket or a standard socket.
For Pre-Filtered Sockets, your phone line should directly be plugged into the master socket. This will work just fine. However, if you have a regular or a Standard Socket, you’ll need to use a microfilter.
What you have to do is plug a microfilter into the master socket. Then, the phone shall now be plugged into the microfilter.
Step #3: Move Devices That Can Disrupt Signals
Our homes are filled with many different devices and appliances. Little did we know that most of these appliances actually disrupt the signals of your landline phone.
In turn, it might not function properly. The devices that can affect the signal of landline phones mostly are:
- Baby monitors
- Refrigerators
- Microwave ovens
- Wireless controllers
- Other phones (landlines)
Step #4: Double-Check the Colour of “Voice” in the Hub
Whether or not you have internet calls enabled on your package, checking the lights of the hub is also an imperative action because it can tell you a lot about what’s happening.
If you see a green light on the voice indicator on the hub, that means that the landline is connected and functioning. If it’s amber, then there’s something that could be disrupting it from functioning properly.
Lastly, if it’s turned off or there’s no colour, then the landline isn’t connected, or it’s not powered on.
NOTE: The common colour of voice on the hub would be blank (turned off) if the landline isn’t working.
Should this be your case, the hardware is already the problem. If it’s green or amber, follow the steps further.
Step #5: Assess the Outdoor Cabling
What you want to do next is to check all wires and cables connected to the landline, this includes the cabling outside. Firstly, check if all connections leading to your landline are plugged in properly.
Trace each of the cables and perform a detachment/reattachment of these wires.
NOTE: The power cord should also be plugged in tightly so the supply of power to the landline is continuous.
Are There Damaged Cables?
Also check if there are wires and cables that are frayed, cut, or sliced. If you find that some cables are sliced up or damaged, the next best thing you want to do is to remedy the cables.
You can either replace these cables or fix them.
How to Fix Damaged or Frayed Cables?
Fixing a wire or a cable has its limits. As a matter of fact, it’ll only be fixable if the cut or the fray on the wire is not that deep.
- Use a wire cutter to remove the coating close to where the damage is.
- Pull it out to reveal the wire, making it longer.
- Install and place an exterior coating for the wires (for protection against electrocution).
Step #6. Locate and Check the Junction Box
Then, for the outdoor cables, what you want to do is to check if there’s anything wrong with the telephone jack by locating the junction box.
Here’s how you can find it and what you need to do:
- Go to the coaxial point where the Sky landline is connected to.
- Then, outside your home, trace where it passes through.
- Follow the cable until you reach the junction box.
- Once you locate it, unscrew it to reveal the interior.
- Then, plug the phone cord directly into the jack.
You should hear a dial tone or you should be able to receive or make calls. Otherwise, this is what’s causing your landline not to work.
Step #7: Power Cycle Your Hub and Landline
The next thing you want to do is to perform a reboot or a power cycle of both your hub and your landline.
NOTE: Even if you’re not using a Sky hub, power cycle or restart it.
Power Cycling Landline
Here’s the process of how you can power cycle your Sky Talk (landline):
- Unplug the phone deck from power.
- Then, take the handset off the deck and take its batteries out.
- Leave it at this state for one (1) full minute.
- Plug the deck in and reinstall the batteries on the handset.
Power Cycling Hub/Router
To power cycle your hub or your router, follow these steps:
- Make sure that the device is powered on.
- If your hub has a [PWR] or [STANDBY] button, press it.
- Once turned off, unplug the power cable from the mains for 30 to 45 seconds.
- Then, plug the device back in and power it again.
After you finish this procedure, your Sky landline should now work and function normally.
Whether it doesn’t have any dial tone, if you’re not hearing any audio, or if there’s beeping on the line, it should now be remedied.
