Let’s unwrap the essentials!
Why You Need to Reset Hive Hub New Owner?
Your Hive Hub is connected to your router and linked to your email and Hive app registration.
This exposes your data to anyone accessing the hub, so resetting the device to a factory state before providing the setup to the new owner is essential.
What is Hive Hub Factory Reset?
To give you complete control over your Hive devices, the Hive Hub uses the Hive mobile app to communicate with your setup.
This requires a constant internet connection and a lasting link to your Hive account to control your devices.
The factory reset is a way to ultimately disconnect your Hive Hub from the mobile app and reset the device to factory state.
When the Hub is in factory state, the device is not linked to any Hive account or app and is ready to be paired by the new owner.
Important: Hive App Data Loss!
When you perform a factory reset, the Hive Hub will be unpaired from the Hive application, and the settings and configurations will be lost.
If you plan to set up a new Hive hub with your mobile, any specific settings related to the previous hub cannot be recovered after the reset.
When To Factory Reset My Hive?
You only need to factory reset your Hive Hub when you’re experiencing a persistent problem or selling or giving away the device to a new owner.
The factory reset is irreversible, and in order to start using your Hive Hub after the reset, you must pair the unit to the Hive mobile app again.

Tip: If you’re unfamiliar with the reset process, follow the steps consecutively!
1. Power ON the Hive Hub & App!
The first step is to power on both your Hive Hub and the mobile device with the Hive application to begin the reset process.
It’s also essential to have both the Hive Hub and Hive mobile device connected to the same router via Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection.
- In addition, you must verify that you’re signed into the Hive app with the Hive account related to the registration of your hub.
If you’re not signed into your Hive account, insert your login details and sign in to begin the restoration process.

In this step, you will lose the ability to control the Hive hub from the application and to restore the access, you will need to perform the pairing again.
The pairing essentially contains your email address through the Hive app by using the account linked to the particular address.
So, when you’re preparing the Hive hub for a new owner, you must unpair from the Hive app, and here’s how:
- First, open the Hive application on your mobile.
- Verify that you’re signed into your Hive account.
- From the main screen, tap on the “Devices” tile.
- Then, select your Hive Hub from the device list.
- Next, press on “Unpair,” “Delete,” or “Remote.”
- This will remove your Hub from the application.
When the Hive Hub is no longer connected to the app, your data is no longer exposed, and the Hub is nearly ready for the new owner.
Let’s continue with the actual factory reset…
