Are you dealing with Oura ring battery life issues? It’s time to correct it!

The Oura ring is a wearable device that tracks sleep, activity, and health.

However, some users reported battery issues like frequent low alerts and slow charging, often indicating battery deterioration and software/firmware problems.

The best way to address Oura ring battery life issues is to update the firmware. You’ll also want to turn off features that drain battery power, like Bluetooth and Smart Coaching.

Alright, let’s explore all possible solutions.

10 Proven Methods on How to Fix Oura Ring Battery Life Issues

To address battery life issues with your Oura ring, we organized 10 proven methods. We sorted them from the least complicated for a more structured approach.

1. Keep Battery Levels Above 30%

Keeping the battery level of your Oura ring above 30% helps prevent power issues and ensures accurate tracking of your sleep and activity.

We suggest you charge your device before going to bed every night.

To charge your Oura ring properly, follow these steps:

  1. Place your Oura ring on the charger with the LED light facing up.
  2. Connect the charger to a working power outlet.
  3. Check if the LED light on the charger is illuminated.
  4. Wait until the LED light turns green, indicating the ring is fully charged.
  5. Remove your device from the charger and put it on.
Tip: Avoid charging your Oura ring for extended periods (over 12 hours) as it leads to overheating and, eventually, battery degradation.

2. Turn on Airplane Mode

turn on your airplane mode

Airplane mode turns off the connection between your ring and phone, significantly conserving battery power.

By activating this mode, you are resolving battery life issues with your Oura ring and extending the lifespan of its battery.

To turn on Airplane Mode, follow these steps:

  1. Tap the Menu icon on the upper left corner of the app.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Choose Airplane Mode.
  4. Click on Enable Airplane Mode.
  5. Press OK to confirm.

To deactivate Airplane Mode, follow the steps above, but click Disable Airplane Mode instead.

Note: After turning off Airplane Mode on your Oura ring, it will take a few minutes to sync data with your phone.

3. Use the Periodic Heart Rate Monitoring Feature

using the periodic heart rate monitoring

The periodic heart rate monitoring feature measures your heart rate every 5 minutes during the day instead of every second with the continuous heart rate monitoring feature.

This significantly decreases the data your Oura ring processes, saving a lot of battery power.

To use the periodic heart rate monitoring feature, follow these steps:

  1. Tap the Menu icon on the upper left corner of the app.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Click on Heart Rate Monitoring.
  4. Choose Period Heart Rate Monitoring.
  5. Press OK to confirm.
Note: The periodic heart rate monitoring feature doesn’t show real-time heart rate on the app or third-party apps, but you’ll still see your average heart rate and variability.

4. Activate Power Saving Mode

How long does the Oura ring battery last? Typically, your device lasts up to 7 days on a single charge.

Activating power saving mode limits the functions and features of your Oura ring to help conserve battery life for an extended period.

To activate power saving mode on your ring, follow these steps:

  1. Charge your Oura ring until it reaches at least 50%.
  2. Open the Oura app.
  3. Tap the Menu icon on the upper left corner of the Home tab.
  4. Select Settings.
  5. Click Backup all data.
  6. After backup, remove your ring from the charger and set it on a flat surface.
  7. Tap the ring icon in the upper left corner of the Home tab.
  8. Scroll down and tap on Power Saving Mode.
  9. Click Turn on Power Saving Mode.
  10. Tap Turn On to confirm.

Your ring will go into power-saving mode after two minutes.

Note: To turn off power saving mode, put your ring on the charger and follow the in-app instructions to reconnect your ring to the Oura app.

5. Disconnect Bluetooth When Not in Active Use

Disable Bluetooth when not in use to conserve battery life on your Oura ring and phone.

Although Bluetooth is the primary mode of communication between your devices, it will significantly drain your battery. Here are the steps to disconnect Bluetooth:

iPhone

  1. Swipe down from the upper right corner of the screen to open Control Center.
  2. Tap the Bluetooth icon to turn it off.

Android

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to open the Notification Panel.
  2. Tap the Bluetooth icon to turn it off.
Note: If you disconnect Bluetooth on your phone, you won’t be able to sync data between your Oura ring and app until you reconnect them.

6. Unpair Your Oura Ring from Other Devices

Ensure your ring is the only device connected to your phone by unpairing it from other devices to help fix the battery life issues.

Other devices interfere with the Bluetooth connection and cause battery drain.

Here’s how to do this:

  1. Go to the device you want to unpair your Oura ring from.
  2. Go to the Bluetooth Settings of that device.
  3. Find your Oura ring on the list of paired devices and tap it.
  4. Click Forget or Unpair.
Note: Unpairing your Oura ring from other devices will disable you from using some of its features or functions, such as notifications and health data.

7. Update Your Oura Ring’s Firmware

Updating your Oura ring’s firmware is worth considering if you have an Oura ring battery dying problem.

Firmware operates your Oura ring by controlling its features and functions.

Occasionally, bugs or glitches arise, affecting your device’s performance and battery life.

Info: Keeping the firmware up to date potentially addresses the issue and enhances your ring’s functionality and accuracy.

To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Ensure your Oura ring is fully charged.
  2. Connect it to your phone via Bluetooth.
  3. Tap the Menu icon on the upper left corner of the app.
  4. Select Settings.
  5. Click on Firmware Update.
  6. If there’s a new version available, tap on Update Now.
  7. Wait until the update is completed.
Note: Do not remove your Oura ring from the charger or close the app during the update process.

When updating your Oura ring’s firmware, you may lose some of your settings or data. Be sure to back your device before beginning the process by syncing it with your phone’s app or exporting your data to a third-party app or service.

8. Don’t Expose Your Ring to Extreme Cold or Heat

Additionally, avoid exposing your Oura ring to extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, water, or chemicals.

They will damage your device’s battery and affect its performance and lifespan.

Follow these tips to protect your ring from extreme cold or heat.

  • Do not leave your Oura ring in a car or outside.
  • Do not wear it in a hot tub, pool, sauna, or steam room.
  • Do not put your ring in a dishwasher, freezer, microwave, or oven.
  • Do not use a hair dryer, heater, or fan on your Oura ring.
  • Do not spray perfume, lotion, alcohol, or sunscreen on it.

9. Reduce the Number of Notifications from Your Oura Ring

reducing the number of notifications

Notifications like battery alerts, bedtime reminders, and activity goals drain the battery of both your ring and phone.

To save battery life and extend your Oura ring’s lifespan, reduce the number of notifications you receive.

To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Launch the Oura app on your phone.
  2. Tap the Menu icon on the upper left corner of the Home tab.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. Click on Notifications.
  5. Toggle off the notifications you don’t want to receive.

Choose only to receive the following:

  • Low battery level
  • Inactivity alerts
  • Activity progress updates
  • Bedtime notifications
  • Insight notifications
  1. Once you’ve made the changes, tap Save.
Note: If you toggle off all notifications, you will not receive any alerts from your Oura ring. Turn them back on at any time by following the steps above.

10. Disable Smart Coaching

disabling smart coaching

Smart Coaching is a feature that provides personalized guidance based on your data and goals to improve your sleep, activity, and health habits.

However, it also uses battery power from your Oura ring and phone.

Disable Smart Coaching to fix battery life issues on your Oura ring by following these steps:

  1. Open the Oura app.
  2. Tap the Menu icon on the upper left corner of the Home tab.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. Click on Smart Coaching.
  5. Toggle off the Smart Coaching switch.
  6. Tap Save.
Note: If you turn off Smart Coaching, you won’t be able to receive personalized insights and recommendations from Oura. To enable it again, follow the steps above.
