When you encounter a Mint mobile hotspot not working issue, it is likely due to a service outage or network glitches.
However, these are not the only causes. Fortunately, we have the solutions no matter the reason.
Either your Mint mobile has a wrong network configuration or an issue with the receiving device. Your phone may be on Airplane mode, effectively disabling digital data services.
Next, you may have placed your SIM card incorrectly, which affects your mobile data network.
To fix your Mint mobile hotspot, not working problem, restart your phone. First, turn off your phone by holding the power key for a few seconds. Wait for a few seconds, then turn on your phone again. If this does not clear the issue, change the frequency of your hotspot to 2.4 GHz.
To choose the best solution, first, you need to know why your Mint mobile hotspot isn’t working.
Why Is Mint Mobile Tethering Not Working
There are several causes for Mint mobile tethering to malfunction. You may have mistakenly toggled Airplane mode.
If your phone is on this mode, you can’t use mobile data to access the Internet. You may, however, turn on your WiFi.
1. Service Outage
If everyone in your area cannot use your Mint mobile hotspot, the culprit may be a service outage.
2. Wrong Network Configuration
Maybe the frequency of the signal you send to create a hotspot is set to 5 GHz. While 5 GHz is faster, many devices can’t pick it up.
3. An Issue with Receiving Device
It could be the SIM card isn’t inserted properly, or your VPN is on. Or you are not allowed to use mobile data on your SIM.
4. Networking Glitches
Your Mint mobile may have some bugs that keep it from tethering. Your system attempts to connect to a network but fails.
These are some of the common reasons your Mint mobile is not tethering.
Now, let us proceed to the troubleshooting steps.
How to Fix Mint Mobile Hotspot Not Working
When faced with a Mint mobile hotspot not working on iPhone problem, do not immediately go to advanced solutions.
Start with the simplest yet effective method - restarting your iPhone.
Restarting your phone refreshes its memory, clears its cache, and prolongs battery life. It prevents crashes and makes sure your device runs smoothly.
You can proceed to the following troubleshooting steps if this doesn’t work.
Solution #1: Disable Power Saving or Battery Saver Mode
Battery Saver Mode or Power Saving limits certain non-essential functions on your Mint mobile to prolong battery life. But, it isn’t supposed to keep you from connecting to a hotspot.
There are instances when power saving or battery saver mode can disrupt some features on your phone.
If you suspect that it does, you want to disable it as soon as possible to resolve any of the issues it’s causing.
Here’s how to turn off power saving or battery saver mode:
iPhone:
- Go to Settings.
- Select Battery.
- Turn Low Power Mode on.
Android:
- Go to Settings.
- Tap Battery.
- Switch off Battery Saver.
Note: The issue with the power saving mode usually occurs with Android phones due to random software bugs.
Solution #2: Turn your Mint Mobile’s WiFi Off
Speaking of software bugs, your WiFi may be causing it. If your mobile hotspot isn’t working, try switching off your WiFi and see if that clears the issue.
Your mobile hotspot also uses WiFi signals and these can interfere with each other.
Here’s how to do it.
- Slide down from the top to access Control Center or Quick Settings.
- You will see the WiFi icon.
- Press it to turn it on.
- Hit the icon again to turn it off.
Note: If your Mint mobile hotspot is still not working, proceed to the step below.
Solution #3: Change the Frequency of Your Hotspot to 2.4 GHz
If you own a new Android phone, you can modify the frequency of the signal you send to create a hotspot.
Yes, 5 GHz may be faster, but not all devices can pick it up. You may need to switch back to the standard 2.4 GHz band.
Here’s how:
- Go to Settings.
- Tap Network & Internet.
- Select Hotspot & Tethering.
- Click WiFi Hotspot.
- Tap AP Band, then select 2.4 GHz.
Note: 2.4 GHz is better suited for long ranges and transmissions through walls and other solid objects. Ideally, you should use it to connect devices for low bandwidth activities.
Solution #4: Switch On Mobile Data
Check your Mint mobile data subscription. Are you allowed to use mobile data on your SIM? Make sure mobile data is active to use the hotspot.
It’s one of the internet sources you can share, especially if you’re traveling. Make sure that you have an internet source turned on so you can share it with others.
Here’s how to switch on mobile data on your phone.
iPhone:
- Go to Settings and tap Cellular.
- Tap Cellular Data toggle to turn it on.
Tip: Fine-tune the elements of Cellular data, such as LTE and roaming.
Android:
- Tap the gear icon to open Settings.
- Tap Data usage.
- Select Cellular Data to turn it on.
Note: Turn off mobile data when not in use to avoid hitting your monthly limit.
Solution #5: Disable VPN Connections
If you use a VPN on your phone, turn off the app. VPN does not only increase mobile data usage but also causes your mobile hotspot to stop working.
It may interfere with the signal quality and stability, so it’s best to disable it.
Here’s how to disable your VPN connections:
Android:
- Go to your Mint mobile’s Settings.
- Look for Network & Internet or Connections.
- Tap on VPN and select a VPN profile.
- Toggle the switch off.
- Confirm you want to disable your VPN connection.
iPhone:
- Open your iPhone’s Settings.
- Select General.
- Tap VPN on the right panel.
- Toggle the switch next to Status.
- It will read not connected if your VPN is inactive.
Note: After this, be sure to restart your phone so that your Mint SIM card can configure the internet access properly.
Solution #6: Set Up New APN Settings
Android phones require manual Access Point Names (APN) configuration to allow mobile hotspots.
If the personal hotspot is not working on your phone, try setting up new APN settings and see if it works.
- Go to Settings and tap Wireless & Networks or Connections.
- Select Mobile Network.
- Tap More Settings and select Access Point Names.
- Press the Menu key, then New APN.
- Verify and update settings, then Save.
Note: APN settings are different from phone to phone. Find your Mint mobile’s APN settings in the User Manual and enter the required APN information.
