Step #2: Newer DIRECTV Receivers

On more later models and firmware versions, you will still be able to get your receiver’s IP Address.

The process will be very similar, so you do not have to worry about anything.

Here’s how to find your DIRECTV receiver’s IP Address on newer boxes with the latest firmware:

1. Press the Menu button on the box.
2. On the main menu, highlight Settings & Help.
3. Select Settings, and navigate to Internet Setup.
4. Go to Advanced Setup and highlight and select Advanced IP Config.
5. Wait for a few seconds, and it should be labeled as IP Address.

Note: The label can also be named Server IP. on a Genie receiver. It should be the one you’re looking for.

Step #3: Update Your DIRECTV Receiver’s Firmware

There will be times when you will not get your receiver’s IP address. This could be due to many things like software glitches and minor errors.

DIRECTV does update the firmware of their boxes automatically. That means you really don’t have to worry about getting stuck with an old version.

However, bugs can happen, which can prevent your box from getting the latest version.

This should get it back to factory settings, where it can download the latest version of the firmware. You can then perform the steps above to get the IP address.

For Genie 2 Receivers:

For Genie 2 receivers, the process is a bit simpler. Follow these steps, to update your Genie 2 receivers:

1. Press the red button on the side of the receiver.
2. Wait for the box to reboot.
3. When the indicator LED flashes white, press the Add Client button.
4. Hold it until you see the indicator LED flash white again.

At this point, the receiver will be downloading the updates. One thing to note here is you must not push the Add Client button if the LED does not turn white.

This may brick your receiver, and you might have to get it replaced.
