Whenever Epson WF 2540 printer Paper Jam Error there is nothing to be concerned about.
The error appears due to many different possibilities so let’s learn more!
When Epson WF2540 Printer Paper Jam error appears mostly cleaning is required. Users need to clean the ink absorber and the transparent strip behind the printing head. Also, any torn or jammed paper should be taken out piece by piece to unclog the mechanism.
As the error suggests, the Paper Jam Error means that the printer can’t pick up the paper and therefore won’t be able to print until further notice.
However, this error does not necessarily appear only because some paper is stuck in the mechanism, instead, the error appears every time the printer can’t grab the paper.
Let’s learn how users managed to solve the problem and how you can too:
To solve the problem we’ll undertake a chronological list of solutions that will make sure that each possibility is addressed individually.
Let’s begin with a simple restart.
The very first move against the Paper Jam problem on your Epson WF2540 is to perform a hard reset or the so-called “power cycle”.
This process helps with most of printer errors by discharging the device and restarting ALL services.
When the problem is related to the software of the device, the power cycle always helps!
Simply unplug the device from the power for at least 3-4 minutes and then turn it back on. Make sure not to use too many sheets of paper and test whether you’ll be able to print.
Tip: Use the Stop/Reset button to turn the device ON after the power cycle!
Solution #2 Remove Jammed Paper
In case something went wrong during one of the recent printing sessions the Epson WF2540 might have torn pieces of paper stuck in the rolling mechanism or beneath the scanning cover.
Follow the steps below to locate and remove the jammed paper:
- Lift up the scanner cover.
- Take a good look inside for torn pieces of paper.
- Remove the jammed paper without touching the white-flat cable.
- Close the scanning cover.
- Open the roller’s cover on the top-left of the printer.
- Remove torn and jammed paper from the rollers.
- Close the cover and press the OK button to test.
In case your Epson WF2540 is now working like nothing ever happened, you should know that such a problem can appear when you’re using too old or too thin/thick paper.
Note: In addition, the paper should be the right size and flat without many wrinkles.
Sometimes the Epson WF2540 won’t be able to pick up the paper and deliver a Jam Error because the sheets are damaged at the corner where the roller’s grip is located.
Flip the paper upside down and insert the sheets back into the feeding container.
Start a printing session to determine whether the printer would be able to pick up the sheets now.
In addition, users need to make sure that they’re using clean and straight paper without many folds, especially at the bottom right corner where the roller grip interacts with the sheet.
Tip: Test whether the Paper Jam Error will appear with a single sheet of paper!
Solution #4 Clean The Roller (Without Opening Device)
Sometimes the printer won’t be able to pick up the paper, therefore displaying the Paper Jam error.
The most powerful method is to clean the roller without even disassembling the machine.
This method is simple but requires some items and tools:
- An alcohol wet wipe
- A stapler
- 1 x Sheet of paper
Turn on your Epson WF2540 printer and follow the steps below:
- Remove ALL paper inside the Epson WF 2540 container.
- Take 1 x sheet of paper and the alcohol wet wipe.
- Fold the sheet of paper and alcohol wipe in two.
- Using the stapler attach the alcohol wipe to the bottom right corner of the sheet.
- The wet wipe needs to be clipped exactly where the roller is pulling the paper.
Use the image below for reference to where to attach the wet wipe:
When the wet wipe has been fixed onto the paper’s corner, insert the paper into the printer with the wet wipe positioned where the roller grabs the paper.
- Start a printing session and hold the paper with your fingers!
This will clean the roller, preventing the Printer Paper Jam Error.
Some users recommend performing the cleaning again while the wipe is still wet to make sure that the roller is free of dust and obstruction particles.
Note: When the printing is over, take the paper out and if the cleaning was successful you should see black spots and dirt on the wet wipe.
The Ink absorber sometimes bubbles up from the path preventing the mechanism of the printer to function well, which leads to further complications.
This is one of the most frequent reasons for the Paper Jam Error on Epson WF2540. The ink absorber is a plush strip located under the printer’s cover.
The printing head is going over the strip and when it’s dislocated this could prevent the session and deliver the Paper Jam Error.
- You need to either adjust the strip or entirely remove it from the pathway.
Printers can easily function without the ink absorber and there isn’t much that could go wrong without it. In case you can’t put it back in, take it out and check for the Paper Jam Error.
Note: The ink absorber should be flat for the paper and mechanism to move freely.
Another possibility for the Paper Jam Error on Epson WF2540 is the transparent strip located again, under the top printer cover behind the moving (printing) mechanism.
This strip cannot be removed but occasionally gets dirty which contributes to the Paper Jam problem.
Alert: You should not use wet wipes to clean the transparent strip!
Using a dry cloth, very gently go over the transparent strip and make sure to take as much dust as possible, which will hopefully solve the problem with the Paper Jam error.
Tip: Make sure to perform a printing session when you’re done cleaning!
Solution #7 Clean The Rollers (Opening Device)
When the printer can’t pick up the paper, it’s probably due to dirty rollers. The rolling mechanism consists of two upper rollers and a sliding surface on the bottom of the printer.
You can access the rollers by opening the cover on the right of the printer. You’ll need a wet or dry cloth to clean the moving mechanisms.
Clean both rollers on the top and the gray surface beneath the rollers.
When you’re ready, test. That should stop the Paper Jam Error on your Epson WF2540 printer.
Now that we’ve made sure that every part responsible for the paper is clean it’s time to shift our focus toward the software of the printer.
The most powerful way to address the Paper Jam Error is by performing a factory reset on your Epson WF2540 printer.
Alert: The factory reset will remove ALL queued tasks and disconnect the printer from all computers.
Here’s how to reset the Epson WF2540 printer to factory settings:
- Press the Menu button.
- Use the Up/Down button to choose to Restore Default Settings.
- Press the OK button to confirm your selection.
- Choose ALL Settings when you’re prompted.
- Use the OK button to start the factory reset.
The Epson WF2540 would take a few minutes to completely factory reset and then you’ll be able to perform one last test to determine if the reset managed to solve the Paper Jam Issue.
Hence, when the Epson WF2540 printer won’t pick up the paper and shows Paper Jam Error users need to clean the ink absorber, and the rollers. Next, users need to remove the torn pieces of paper from the mechanism and perform a factory reset.
