If Cox Contour box no signal appeared on your TV screen then there are two general possibilities. It is either your signal preventing you from streaming media, or the wiring between your TV and box is interrupted.
To solve the no signal problem, you need to hard reset your Cox box and your TV and inspect if ALL cables are connected properly. Then you should make sure your cable box is up to date and perform a factory reset to exclude an OS glitch as a possibility.
There is much more to know behind the solutions, so we recommend not to skip anything!
Why Is There No Signal Of Cox Contour Box?
If your Cox Contour cable box says no signal, quite a few things could have happened. Keep in mind that if the issue is found within Cox’s end, you won’t be able to do anything but call them.
This is why you should first determine if the issue is within your configuration before spending any time troubleshooting.
But let’s exclude that possibility for the moment and take a look at all possible things that could have impacted your Cox cable box’ signal.
1. Cable Problem
One of the most frequent occasions for signal loss on the Cox Contour box is faulty cable connections.
2. Cable Box Software
If there is an OS issue with your cable box itself, there could be no signal showing.
3. Failed Connection with TV
If the connection with the TV failed, you will get no signal error from the TV and not your cable box.
4. Maintenance
If the no signal issue is found at Cox’s end, you will also get no signal errors.
5. Bad Weather
Bad weather can potentially harm the signal your Cox Contour box is receiving and result in the error you’re getting.
Now that we’ve mentioned all of the possibilities, let’s proceed with the best troubleshooting methods available against these causes.
How To Fix Cox Contour Box No Signal Issue Easily?
After giving you a proper insight of the issue, have you tried rebooting your cable box normally? Sometimes all it takes to resolve the malfunction is an easy power OFF/ON to reboot.
If that didn’t work, down below are proven solutions that will definitely help!
Solution #1. Execute A Hard Reset
Unlike the normal reboot, you can try performing a hard reset on your cable box as well. Also known as a power cycle, this type of reset is meant to discharge your device so it can boot cleanly after.
Here is how to perform a hard reset on your Cox cable box:
- Unplug the power adapter.
- Wait for 5 minutes while the cable box is unplugged.
- Connect the power adapter back into the source.
- Turn on the cable box and test.
Once you’re done, if the issue is still there, plug your cable box into a standalone wall outlet to test if there were any fluctuations with the outlet or dividers.
Solution #2. Re-Connect ALL Cables
Another thing that could be causing signal interruptions is a problem with the wiring.
Cable connections can often go faulty if there was a sudden power outage and your cable box remained plugged in. Once the electricity comes back it will fire start your device leading to issues.
Follow the steps below to inspect and fix any potential wiring issues:
- Turn OFF your TV and Cable box.
- Unplug the power adapter.
- Disconnect the Coaxial cable.
- Disconnect the HDMI cable, connecting the TV and Cox cable box.
- Rotate cable’s ends (except for the obvious, the coaxial cable).
- Plug ALL cables back, without body pressure and twists.
- Tighten their connecting with the intuit ports.
- Reboot the TV and cable box.
Once the devices are back on, check if there will be a connection. If not, then the problem is with something else, so let’s continue further down.
Solution #3. Configure TV Source
If the Cox Contour box has no signal, you might have chosen the wrong source on your TV.
If that’s the case, you will still see a no signal message on your TV screen, but the error comes from the TV and not the cable box.
To configure the TV source, follow these steps:
- Check the port your cable box is plugged in behind your TV (HDMI1, HDMI2, etc…).
- Head to the source menu on your TV.
- Choose the corresponding port where you checked the cable box is plugged in.
- Select the source of your cable box.
Pro Tip: If the signal does not appear, check ALL HDMI sources to see where your cable box output will pop up.
If the signal does not appear anywhere, then you’re probably dealing with a faulty HDMI cable. If however, the output appears but it says “No Signal” let’s continue with the next solution.
Solution #4. Update Cox Contour Cable Box
If the no signal message appears when you’re trying to watch something and you’ve got access to your Cox box, you should initiate a firmware update.
If there is an update available and it got skipped, it has a high chance of fixing the no signal message.
Follow the steps below to update your Cox cable box.
- Hit the contour button on your remote.
- Scroll up until you find the settings button and highlight it.
- Click ok and head to the Preferences tab.
- Click on General and scroll down until you see “Daily Update Time”.
- Click on the tab and you should be able to view and apply the newest update scripts there.
If there was nothing to update, or updating didn’t help, feel free to proceed with the next solution.
Solution #5. Factory Reset The Cable Box
By resetting your Cox cable box to factory defaults, you have a really good shot at erasing any corrupted data that might be causing signal outages.
The only requirement for the rest is your Cox registration credentials and an active online account of course.
Here is how to perform a factory reset on your cable box:
- Go to Cox.com/RESET.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
- Locate the “Reset My Cable Connection” tab.
- Click on the “Reset My Connection” blue button.
This button will start the reset that on average takes 15 minutes to complete so make sure to wait it out patiently.

If there is no signal on your TV, then you should replace the HDMI cable and if it does not work, check the cable box input ports for damage.
In case there is no signal when trying to watch content, and you’ve tried everything in this post, there is a high chance that there is no signal coming through the Coaxial cable at all.
To justify that you can reach out to Cox customer service and ask for details about outages in your local area.
