Do you want to change BT WiFi password? To secure your network, you need to make sure that the credentials you have entered as your security code are only provided to those who you trust.
Leaving your network without any protection can allow other people to access it; hackers can go their way onto accessing your files.
They can even find out private information such as credit card numbers, and other sensitive information.
Although the passphrase given by BT is very secure, follow the steps below should you want to modify it:
BT Hub Password Change
Before we start, we should take note that there are different BT Hubs which require different procedures to modify its passphrases, namely:
- Home Hub Five (5)
- Home Hub Four (4)
- Home Hub Three (3)
- Smart Hub Two (2)
- Smart Hub and Ultrafast Smart Hub
There are three (3) different ways on how to push through a BT Hub password modification:
- Logging to through the Admin Tool
- With the official App
- With My BT Account
First let us know how to recover your lost BT WiFi password, through the followings means:
Recover Lost Password
Open any browser
Ensure that your computer is connected to your internet network. After opening a web browser, access the Admin Tool (type 192.168.1.254 on your web browser).
Please take note that the username and passphrase of your admin tool is different from your Wi-Fi username and passphrase.
If this is the first time you have entered Hub Manager, it will require you to renew the Admin passphrase of your BT Hub – this is not the WiFi passphrase.
Worry not because there will be an onscreen procedure that will pop up to guide you throughout the process.
After this, continue to the next procedure.
Recover the Password
Should you have forgotten the Admin Tool security lock, worry not because you just need to do the following:
Step #1. Ensure that your computer is connected to your BT internet network .
Step #2. Open your browser and enter on your search bar the following links (only one of the links may already do)
- https://bthomehub.home
- 192.168.1.254
Step #3. After entering the link or the IP Address, you will be directed to the Hub Manager
Step #4. Go to the option that says Override. You will then be directed to a new screen.
Step #5. Go over your Hub Router (Home Hub 5 and 4, Smart Hub 2, and Ultrafast Smart Hub and Smart Hub).
Step #6. You will see a Wireless WPS label on your router then proceed to press and hold the button corresponding to it for at least 20 seconds
Step #7. After pressing for at least 20 seconds, the power light should start blinking with a blue light.
Note
This entails that your router is ready for its security code to be modified.
This is only for at least two minutes and you have to act within that time to effect an admin password renewal
Step #8. Obtain your Hub’s wireless key. You can obtain this by finding the default key which is positioned on the back of your Hub or a label is placed under the base of your Hub.
Step #9. You may also obtain your serial number which is also placed on a label under the base
Step #10. After entering the key successfully, you may already enter your security code
Step #11. Re-enter the new credential. It is advisable to provide credential to a passphrase hint for future use. Make sure that this hint is strong and easy for you to remember
Step #12. Press the Use Override option
Now, that we have resolved this issue, we may now proceed to the topic which is change BT WiFi password.
Change BT WiFi Password using Admin Tool
Changing a security key might be quite a daunting task. Just relax because we have got you covered!
Step #1. Ensure that your computer is connected to your BT internet network.
Step #2. Open up your browser and type on the 192.168.1.254 on your browser’s search bar then press enter.
Step #3. After doing step 2 successfully, you will be directed to Hub Manager
Note
If this is the first time you have entered Hub Manager, it will require you to change the Admin passphrase of your BT Hub – this is not the Wi-Fi password.
Worry not because there will be an onscreen procedure that will pop up to guide you throughout the process. After this, continue to the next procedure.
Step #4. Start this procedure by clicking Advanced Settings and continue to Advanced Settings
Step #5. This will direct you to a new page and press Wireless
Step #6. Proceed to Wireless key (WPA & WPA2) to modify the password of your choice then click Apply
Note
If you are using two network names (one for the 2.4 GHz and one for 5 GHz band), worry not and follow the same procedures 4 to 6.
Step #7. Please make sure that your passphrase has at least eight characters, both uppercase and lowercase letters, and has at least one number.
Step #8. Type your new security code again and click, “SAVE.”
Congratulations! You now know how to use the Admin Tool the next time you change BT WiFi password.
BT Hub Password Change using My BT App
# Download the application in your mobile device
- Go to the App Store or Google Play Store
- Search for the My BT App on the search bar
- Press Download and wait for the installation to finish
# Altering BT Wi-Fi Passcode Using My BT App
- Open the My BT App on your device
- Select Home Network on the application
- Go to Settings, under Settings press Network Settings
- Press Modify Wi-Fi Password
- Type in your current passcode, then type the new one for your BT Hub
- Retype your new security code and press confirm
- Press Save
Change BT WiFi Password using My BT Account
To do the same using your BT account, follow these steps one by one and you are good to go:
- Open your browser and go the BT website
- Click My BT on the to right corner of the website
- Log in using your current BT ID
- Click Settings then scroll down to Your BT ID details
- Click Edit passcode on the right side of under Your ID details
- Type in your current security code, then type the new passphrase for your Hub
- After it’s been modified successfully, you will receive a confirmation prompt
Reconnect your wireless devices to Wi-Fi Network
