Belong WiFi connected but no internet? Yes, it’s possible to be “connected” to Wi-Fi and still be offline.
The modem’s Wi-Fi only allows you to connect wirelessly, and broadband access is what decides whether you can go online or not.
When Belong’s Wi-Fi says “connected”, inspect the cables, splitters and ports in your setup. Restart your nbn and modem, verify the wiring in your setup and resolve problems with the Wi-Fi settings.
Let’s get started with the most important first!
Belong WiFi Not Working – “Connected” But No Internet?
Wi-Fi is only a feature of your modem that spreads your internet income to other devices over a wireless network.
So, if you’re “connected” to the Wi-Fi without internet access, the broadband connection may not work; therefore, your Wi-Fi is empty.
Test the Broadband Connection
The broadband connection is the internet you receive directly from your supplier.
When this link is offline or interrupted, your Wi-Fi will say “connected,” but you’ll have no access to the internet.
Test your broadband connection by checking whether you’ve got internet access on a hardwired computer to the modem via Ethernet cable.
Check for Outages
If you don’t have access to the internet, even when bypassing your Wi-Fi, it’s not excluded that there is an nbn service outage.
So go ahead, input your service address and check for any outages affecting your area.
Note: No outages mean the problem is with your Wi-Fi (not broadband).
How to Fix When Belong WiFi Connected But No Internet?
Solving Wi-Fi issues is elementary by using the steps below!
1. Inspect Your Network Equipment
The first and fundamental step is to inspect your network equipment for any signs that will give away the culprit.
Your Belong modem’s Wi-Fi could be disconnected from the internet due to loose cables, faulty splitters, obstructed input ports, broken connectors or bent socket pings.
Check the Splitters
It’s essential to check the splitters between the socket wall plate and your connection cable.
Use a direct connection if possible since other connected devices may cause internet interference.
Check the Cables
You’ll need to inspect the cables in your setup, and the most important one is the Ethernet cable connecting the Belong modem with the nbn box.
If this wire is loose/unplugged, you’ll be offline.
Check the Plugs
If you notice any damage to the connectors of your cables, such as bents, broken plastic, burnt spots or other defects, then this is why your Belong Wi-Fi is not working.
Check the Ports
You must inspect the ports involved in your Belong network equipment.
For FTTC, FTTP and HFC, you must check the ports on your modem and nbn box.
Note: If you find a defective cable, you must replace it!
2. Restart Your Belong Wi-Fi Modem
In your Belong’s networking setup, you have your modem and nbn connection box, the two instances responsible for your internet connection and Wi-Fi.
Therefore, restarting both is recommended as early as possible, which will help you identify whether the issue is only temporary.
The best way to reboot your Belong modem and nbn connection box is by unplugging both units from the power for 60 seconds.
This will refresh the operating system and resolve your issues.
Note: After rebooting your equipment, your Belong modem may take up to 5 minutes to reconnect with the network.
3. Verify Your Modem’s Connection
If your Belong Wi-Fi says “connected”, but you don’t have internet access, the reason may be an incorrectly connected modem.
This is why we recommend diagnosing problems in your networking setup using the below orientation notes and graphics.
Belong Modem (FTTC)
- Modem to nbn Box – standard RJ45 Ethernet cable.
- Phone port to nbn – telephone RJ11 DSL cable.
Belong Modem (FTTP)
- Modem to nbn Box – uses an RJ45 Ethernet cable.
- From outside to nbn – Fibre optic cable.
Belong Modem (HFC)
- HFC socket to nbn – a standard Coaxial cable.
- Modem to nbn Box – an RJ45 Ethernet cable.
If your setup appears to be appropriately corrected, check for any light indications on the nbn box and try to determine potential faults.
If you see a red light, perhaps the issue with your Belong modem’s Wi-Fi comes due to a problem with the nbn box.
4. Adjust Belong’s Network Settings
The reason why your Belong modem’s Wi-Fi is empty, and you have no internet access, even when you’re connected, may be due to misconfigured settings.
So, you will need to enter your Belong modem settings and configure the network correctly.
How to Access Belong Modem?
- Connect a device to the Wi-Fi of the Belmont modem.
- Info: You don’t need to be connected to the internet.
- Open a web browser and type “10.0.0138” in the URL.
- Insert the default Belong’s modem login credentials:
a. Username “admin”
b. Password “belong”
Then, you must configure the settings!
Correct Belong Configuration:
- WAN: Connected to nbn
- Protocol: Automatic or IPoE (DHCP)
- VLAN: Leave blank
- Login: Not required
- Connect to DNS Automatically: Yes (recommended)
We also recommend changing your Wi-Fi password and then reconnecting from your device.
The Wi-Fi SSID and password settings are under “Wireless,” but the exact menus may vary based on your Belong modem’s model.
Note: If you’ve corrected a misconfiguration in the settings, reboot your modem!
5. Optimise the Modem’s Wi-Fi Signal
You may be connected to the Belong modem’s Wi-Fi, but the problem could be related to the wireless transmission.
Try moving closer to your Belong modem to check whether your internet access will restore, and if it does, you’ll have to optimise your signal.
If your problem is distance-related, continue with the following tips:
- Relocate your Belong modem to a centralised spot.
- Avoid covering your Belong modem with anything.
- Forget and reconnect to the Wi-Fi from your device.
- Unpair unused devices from your wireless network.
If this doesn’t help and your device keeps showing “connected” without internet, try connecting to the Belong modem via a different device.
If this helps and other devices connect, you may have to reset the network settings on your previous device.
Reminder: Test your Belong Wi-Fi by standing right next to your modem!
6. Change the Modem’s Wi-Fi Channel
If your Belong WiFi not working, perhaps the Wi-Fi channel is overcrowded by neighbouring connections, which typically happens when you live near offices.
The number of routers in the surrounding area matters a lot, and if your Wi-Fi channel is too busy, you’ll have no internet.
To switch to another Wi-Fi channel, you must sign in to your Belong modem by inserting “10.0.0.138” in the web browser’s URL on a connected device.
Then, using admin/Belong, you can sign in and switch to another Wi-Fi channel.
Belong DWA0122 Modem:
- Advanced Menu → Advanced View → Wi-Fi → Channel Field → 2.4GHz → 5GHz.
Belong 4353 Modem:
- Advanced → Wi-Fi → Wireless Environment → Start Scan → Basic → Channel Selection → Apply.
Belong 4315 Modem:
- Wireless → Disable WMM Advertise → Enable Wireless Multicast → Channel Selection → Save/Apply.
Belong models DWA0122 and 4353 provide an inbuilt Wi-Fi Analyzer to help you check which channels are free and which are overcrowded.
Note: You don’t need to reboot your modem after switching from one Wi-Fi channel to another!
7. Factory Reset Your Belong Modem
At last, you may need to factory reset your modem.
If your Wi-Fi keeps saying “connected”, but no internet access on the device, it’s likely a fault with the modem.
Warning: The factory reset erases all settings and configurations on your Belong modem!
You can reset your Belong modem using a tool with a small and pointy end, such as a toothpick, pen or needle, and press the Reset button continuously.
So, after holding the Reset button for about 10 seconds, the light on your Belong modem will turn off, and the factory reset will begin.
Reminder: When you reset your modem, you must log in to the control panel and configure your Wi-Fi settings from scratch.
Quick Recap:
If your Belong WiFi is connected but there is no internet, try easy steps first, such as restarting the equipment and inspecting whether all cables are correctly connected.
The next step is to correct the Belong network and Wi-Fi settings, optimise the signal and reset the modem.
