Why No Internet Light on Belong Modem?
Many factors can restrict the modem from displaying the internet status light and are mainly related to the modem hardware or software issue.
So, before troubleshooting, it’s crucial to understand all the possibilities so you can only apply the working solutions as per your case.
Here’s everything that can cause no internet light on the modem:
Let’s jump into troubleshooting!
How to Fix the Belong Modem No Internet Light?
Now that you have identified all the possibilities, we can proceed with the troubleshooting steps.
In the below section, we’ll unwrap all the solutions that’ll help you restore your Belong internet.
1. Check the Wi-Fi Physical Button
When the Belong modem doesn’t have an internet light, there is a high possibility that the Wi-Fi button on the modem is disabled or turned off, leading to no internet light.
Therefore, you should ensure the Wi-Fi switch is not disabled on your modem.
Follow these steps to check the Wi-Fi button:
- At the back of the modem, locate the Wi-Fi button.
- Then, press the Wi-Fi switch to turn the feature on.
- Wait a few seconds and then see the internet light.
Note: If the internet light doesn’t appear on the Belong modem, press the same button twice, as sometimes the switch gets stuck due to debris.
2. Power Cycle the Belong Modem
Another thing you should do is to perform a power circulation on your Belong modem.
This includes disconnecting the modem from the power source for about 15 minutes.
This simple technique refreshes the modem’s entire system and helps re-establish the stable connection.
Here’s how to power cycle your Belong modem in easy steps:
- Turn the modem’s socket switch to the OFF position.
- Unplug the modem’s power cord from the wall outlet.
- Wait about 5 minutes while your device is unplugged.
- Plug the modem power cord back into the wall outlet.
- Turn the modem’s wall socket switch to the ON side.
Wait for the “Internet” LED light to come up and start blinking on the modem. If it doesn’t work out, simply proceed to the next step…
3. Inspect the Modem’s A/C Source
The modem and connection box require a constant power source for proper operation, and any problem with the modem’s A/C supply can lead to connectivity issues.
Therefore, inspect and ensure that the power cord of your network devices is firmly plugged into a functioning outlet.
Also, consider these additional factors:
- Plug the modem and nbn box directly into an outlet.
- Verify that the Power light on your nbn box is “ON.”
- Inspect the adapter and cables for physical issues.
- Plug the nbn box into a different or proven outlet.
- Avoid using extension cables and power strips.
Info: Practising all these steps will ensure a reliable power source to the modem and nbn box and will hopefully restore your internet connection.
4. Inspect the DSL/Fibre Line
When your Belong modem has no internet light, checking the cables involved in your setup may help you discover the culprit.
Over time, connections in the ports can become loose/damaged, which interrupts the internet flow from the nbn to the Belong modem, disabling the internet light.
Alert: Before starting the inspection, be sure to disconnect your devices from the power!
Use the following steps to check the internet cables:
For DSL Connection:
- Locate the cable connecting your modem to the wall socket.
- Then, disconnect the cable from the modem and DSL line.
- Inspect the length of the DSL cable and ports for any damage.
- Firmly reconnect one end of the cable to the service socket.
- Plug the other end of the DSL cable on your Belong modem.
For Fibre Connection:
- Find the cable connecting the Belong modem to your nbn box.
- Disconnect the cable from the modem and connection device.
- Inspect the length of the Fibre cable and ports for any damage.
- Firmly connect one end of the cable to the nbn connection box.
- Plug the other end of the Fibre cable on your Belong modem.
After that, power on the modem and nbn box and wait a few minutes to let the devices establish a connection.
This may take up to 5 minutes, but when ready, the “Internet” light must come on!
5. Reset Your nbn Box To Defaults
If your Belong modem’s light is still not lit up, the next step is to perform a factory reset on the nbn box, which is effortless and does not require extra steps.
Your nbn box is responsible for delivering the internet to your modem, and when there is no internet and no light indications, perhaps it’s a system bug.
Here’s how to reset your nbn box in easy steps:
- Verify that your nbn box is plugged in and working.
- Find the Reset pinhole on the back, near the ports.
- Use a pointy-ended tool that can reach into the hole.
- Press and hold the Reset button for 10-15 seconds.
- When the lights on the nbn go out, release the button.
Your nbn box will now reset, which may take up to 15 minutes.
Be patient and wait for the “Online,” “Connection” or “Internet” light to illuminate in blue/green.
Tip: In the meantime, reboot your modem and check the “Internet” light.
6. Check for Outages or Maintenance
Sometimes, there is a problem on the ISP end, such as outages or any ongoing maintenance work that is currently done.
In that case, your modem may stop receiving internet from the nbn (temporarily), resulting in no internet light.
Here is how to check for ISP outages:
- Visit the nbn Status to check your nbn network service.
- Download the Belong App and check via “My Services.”
- Enter the Belong Website and go to “My services.”
Info: If a reported outage or scheduled maintenance occurs, you must wait.
7. Factory Reset the Belong Modem
The factory reset as a last resort is one of the most effective solutions when your Belong modem has no internet light.
The reset will erase all your modem’s customised settings and return to factory defaults, so be sure to back up any settings, such as your Wi-Fi.
Follow these steps to factory reset your Belong modem:
- Verify your modem is plugged into the power outlet.
- Locate the “Reset button” on the back of the modem.
- Info: The button is in a pinhole, so acquire a pointy tool.
- Press and hold the Reset button for about 15 seconds.
- When all of the lights go OFF, the modem is resetting.
That’s it. Your modem will soon reset and revert to factory settings.
Reminder: After the reset, you must set up your custom Wi-Fi SSID and password!
8. Replace Your Ethernet Cable Link
If nothing helps and the “Internet” light on your Belong modem is still “OFF,” it’s highly likely that the Ethernet cable connecting your modem and nbn is faulty.
This is a common issue, so if you have a replacement cable, check whether a fresh link would resolve your connection problem.
Also, you must inspect the connectors of the cable and ports on your modem and nbn for other issues before the replacement.
If nothing appears defective, perhaps your cable is not working.
Note: If you discover any damaged or faulty equipment, contact Belong Support!
Quick Recap:
Belong modem no internet light typically means you’re not connected to the nbn box, so reboot both the modem and nbn.
The next step would be to check the service connection between the nbn and modem, check the outages, and factory reset your Belong modem.
