Is your Altice remote blinking and not working? Perform basic checks to find out what causes the issue.
Once you know what makes your remote blink, you can take the appropriate steps to fix it.
To fix an Altice remote that is blinking and not working, replace the batteries. If they are rechargeable, charge them before placing them in the remote again. If the remote does not work immediately after the battery replacement, reprogram it to the box.
Causes of Altice Remote Blinking and Not Working
The LED lights on your Altice remote, also known as Status Lights, indicate the transmission of signals.
If your Altice remote is blinking and unable to work, it means something is preventing the transmission of infrared signals.
Bluetooth Pairing Issues
The Altice remote transmits signals through Bluetooth. If it disconnects from Bluetooth, the remote blinks and stops working.
Make sure you pair your device with the receiver. Go through the re-pairing process again to ensure the devices are paired.
Dead or Loose Batteries
Just like other devices, your remote uses batteries for power. When the battery level is low, the Altice remote starts blinking and won’t stop blinking until you remove and replace the batteries.
If you are using rechargeable ones, charge them before placing them back in the remote.
Faulty Hardware
Another possibility is a faulty signal receiver. Even with fresh batteries and a Bluetooth connection, the defective hardware cannot detect the remote.
Power cycle the receiver by disconnecting the power cord for a few seconds to solve the issue. Then, plug it back in to restart the remote and the box.
If your remote is still blinking and not working after you rule out the three reasons above, try other alternatives to fix it.
You can re-pair your remote, reset the Altice box manually, or visit an Optimum store to seek help.
Note: Problems can either be from the Altice remote or box. An Optimum service technician can thoroughly check the issue, determine the real problem, and come up with a solution.
How to Fix Altice Remote Blinking and Not Working
Altice remote is a featured product from Optimum services with built-in Bluetooth.
They use aim-anywhere technology that takes away the need to point out the remote to the box to operate. However, like other devices, it can have issues in the long run.
Here’s how you can fix them.
Solution #1: Check the Batteries
If you use normal batteries, they may run out after some time. The remote will blink whenever the battery level dips to let you know.
The light won’t stop flashing, and the remote will stop working until you remove and change the batteries.
- At the backside of the remote, you will see the battery compartment.
- Open it to expose the batteries.
- Take out the two batteries.
- Put in new ones of the same size.
- Close the battery compartment.
Note: If you are using rechargeable batteries, make sure you recharge them on time to avoid the issue.
Also, rechargeable batteries get damaged over time. It would be best if you change them when the time comes.
The blinking should go away if dead batteries were the cause of the problem. If it continues to blink, reprogram the remote to the box accordingly.
Solution #2: Check for Bluetooth Connectivity
In addition to Infrared, the Altice remote uses Bluetooth for unconditional aim-anywhere and voice commands.
Blinking lights could mean the device is not paired to the receiver and is currently scanning for available connections.
Here’s what you can do to fix this:
- Turn off the Altice remote.
- Remove the batteries.
- Please wait for a few minutes, then re-insert them.
- Check if the lights blink again.
Note: You may need to perform a re-pairing procedure if this solution doesn’t work. But before you continue to the next step, make sure the batteries are full.
Solution #3: Re-Pair or Reprogram Your Remote to the Box
What if my Optimum Altice One remote is blinking and not working after changing the batteries and power cycling it?
The next natural course of action is re-pairing or reprogramming your remote to the box.
- Go to Settings by pressing the Home button.
- Select Preferences > Pair Remote.
- Hold down the numbers 7 and 9 simultaneously for 5 seconds.
- Wait until the pairing process is complete.
If the remote stops blinking, it means you have resolved the issue. You can resume using the remote then.
Note: Altice remotes do not work properly due to battery, Bluetooth, and hardware issues.
You can fix the blinking problem by pressing the 7 and 9 buttons on the remote, which reprograms your remote to the box.
Solution #4: Reset Your Altice Box
If none of the above simple solutions fixes the problem, you will need to reset your Altice box to its default settings.
Since the remote is unresponsive, you need to access the receiver manually.
- Find the Reset button behind your Altice box.
- Press and hold it for about twenty seconds.
- Wait for the lights at the front to blink.
- Your device will then reboot.
You will get service back in a few minutes. But, before you reset your device, keep in mind that the process will delete all your existing data settings.
Make sure you back up your settings so that you can easily restore them.
Note: Upon successful restoration, your Altice box will require you to set it up like it is brand new. Hopefully, this will fix the Altice One remote blinking and not working issue.
Solution #5: Replace Your Altice Equipment
If even resetting your Altice box does not work, it is time to contact Optimum Service Stores.
They can help diagnose the problem and give you instructions to fix it. You can also ask for a replacement if the issue is beyond repair.
- Using their store locator, find the nearest Optimum Service Store or call them by phone.
- Talk to them about the issue, including what you had done to try to fix it.
- A qualified Optimum Service technician will ask you to try some solutions.
- Follow instructions.
Note: If the remote has hardware issues and there’s nothing much you can do, return the items and exchange them for new ones.
