The Xfinity Stream application provides users with numerous TV shows and popular movies, all in one place.
Sometimes the app works slower or keeps freezing, which is frustrating when it starts happening all of the time.
In this guide, we’ll boost the performance of the Xfinity app!
When the Xfinity Stream app starts lagging to a point where it’s no longer usable, users need to restart the host device and the application. In case the lag continues, the application should be cleanly re-installed and the host device’s workflow relieved.
Let’s next learn the most frequent reasons why the Xfinity app is so slow!
Why Does My Xfinity Stream Keeps Lagging?
There are quite a few possibilities that we’re about to inspect in order to determine where the severe lag in the Xfinity Stream app is coming from.
Based on user reports and solution guidelines we’ve managed to conduct a list containing the most frequent Xfinity lag causes!
Here’s what could be making your Xfinity Stream application slow:
- No Resources on Stream Device
- Slow or Fluctuating WiFi/Internet
- Piled up Application Cache Data
- Corrupted App Installation
- Outdated Application Firmware
Any of the above-described possibilities could be ongoing in your case so buckle up, and proceed further in the guide to discover the right solution.
Let’s jump right in!
How To Fix When Xfinity Stream App Lagging?
To solve the problem we’re going to target each of the above-described causes one by one.
It’s strongly recommended to follow the solutions in order!
Solution #1 Reboot Device & App
The very first approach against the “lag” problem with the Xfinity app is to try and understand whether the lag appears during browsing the menus in the app or while watching content.
After this, we’ll reboot the host device, which essentially will restart all application services as well.
Turn OFF your host device (smartphone, TV, console, or computer)!
Keep the device OFF for at least 2-3 minutes to perform a power circulation, which in most cases solves problems related to background processes, slowing the device down.
Note: Open only the Xfinity application on the device to perform the tests after the steps!
Solution #2 Clear App Cache
One of the most frequent reasons why the application is uncontrollably lagging is due to the data performance.
The application cache is data containing information in regard to your app activity, which over-time piles up, therefore slowing the performance down.
Clear The App Cache On Mobile:
- On Android open the Settings > Apps > Xfinity App > Storage > Clear Cache
- On iOS open the Settings > Storage > Internal Storage > Cached Data > Clear All
Clear App Cache On TV Box (X1 or Flex):
- On X1 press the Xfinity remote button or the Home button for Flex.
- Highlight the gear icon using the navigational buttons on the remote.
- Select “OK” to reach the Settings.
- From there go down to highlight and select Privacy.
- Go to the Locally Stored Data.
- Choose OK to the “Clear Local Storage” prompt.
- A confirmation message “App Data Successfully Cleared” should appear.
For the mobile users, clearing the cached data for Xfinity only will reflect, respectively only towards the Xfinity app.
However, clearing the entire cached data on the streaming box will cause your account to be disconnected from ALL applications installed, including Xfinity.
Note: Besides disconnecting your account, no further changes will be made to the device!
Solution #3 Lower The Resolution
When using the Xfinity Stream app to watch content, the player often provides access to the Streaming Options and the current resolution.
The higher the resolution is, the faster the internet requires to buffer the videos in a timely manner.
When the Xfinity Stream TV Shows and Movies are lagging, lower the resolution!
On a TV you can find the resolution settings by hitting the Pause button for the controls to appear which also applies to mobile devices.
On a computer (via browser) the resolution settings are located on the bottom-right of the player and can be easily lowered.
Tip: The first test is on 720p and in case the lag continues, decrease the resolution to 480p.
Solution #4 Test & Boost Internet Speed
When the Xfinity Stream app lagging only appears while watching shows on your device, then most certainly the internet speed is involved.
When your show simply stops, waiting for the network to buffer, it would be a prime indication of WiFi/internet fluctuations.
Test Your Internet Speed before continuing to be able to measure the improvement after!
There are quite a few methods to attempt and boost the WiFi/Internet speed:
- Disconnect another device from the WiFi
- Reboot your network router/modem
- Stop downloading, streaming, or uploading content
- Reconnect your host device to the WiFi
- Use a wired (Ethernet cable) connection
Feel free to measure your internet speed once again, to check whether the speeds have been improved.
In case a problem with the internet has been identified, feel free to reach out to your Internet Service Provider (ISP) and find a way to resolve the problem as soon as possible.
Alert: Make sure that the network connection is reliable before continuing further!
Solution #5 Reinstall The Xfinity App
In case the internet is not what’s causing the issue, we need to perform a clean installation on the Xfinity app to provide the software with a fresh start, which hopefully, will help.
With the different TV brands and streaming boxes, the options might not align:
Re-install Xfinity App on TV:
- From the Home Screen, go to Settings.
- Navigate to the Apps tab.
- From there select the Xfinity application.
- Press on Delete and Confirm to clear the app.
- Then from the TVs App Store, download Xfinity.
Re-Install Xfinity on mobile:
- On iOS press and hold the app to select the “x” mark.
- Then re-download the Xfinity app from the App Store.
- On Android, delete the Xfinity application from Settings > Apps.
- Use Google Play Store to get the Xfinity app installed back.
When the application is cleanly installed on the streaming device, test whether the lagging continues.
In case it does, don’t get discouraged, and proceed with the next solution!
Solution #6 Optimize Host Device
Now that we’ve cleanly installed the Xfinity app we can shift our focus toward the host device and its performance.
The Xfinity application will be freezing or lagging when the resources on the host device are exceeding the capacity, therefore the entire device is struggling to keep up.
Here’s how to boost your device’s performance:
- Delete Unnecessary Apps.
- Close Open Applications (Background Working Services).
- Remove Resource-Consuming Addons.
- Use a Free Storage Cleaner App
- Free Up as much Storage as possible!
This will definitely improve the performance of your Xfinity host device and hopefully, the lagging will stop.
Test whether other applications are lagging the same way as Xfinity to be able to tell whether the problem is from the app or coming from the host device.
Tip: For best compatibility, always keep the Xfinity application up to date!
The Xfinity Stream App Is Still Lagging?
We strongly suggest testing the Xfinity app on another device to determine whether the problem is global or local. This will help you understand the root of the problem.
Once you’ve been able to determine the cause of the problem, you can report it to Xfinity Customer Service.
You can reach out to the Xfinity Support Team on their Contact Us Page!
Keep in mind that they won’t be able to help you when the problem is related to your device, instead, they can provide help when the issue is on their side.
Don’t forget to share what you’ve tried in this guide to save as much time as possible troubleshooting.
Good Luck!
Quick Recap:
Thus, the Xfinity application is lagging because the host device is running out of resources or the application has corrupted data that requires clearing. The best solution is to reinstall the app and reboot the host device to provide the services with a fresh start.
