If you’re asking why does ITVX keep freezing, then this ITVX guide will answer your question!
The so-called “freezing” happens when ITVX is unable to load (buffer) the content or when the application or your device crashes.
So, in this guide, we’ll identify the type of ITVX freezing as well as the correct approach against the app freezing issue with easy and non-technical steps.
The reason why ITVX is freezing on your device could be due to internet fluctuations or internet downtime. In addition, with the ITVX app, any data corruption or a fault with the streaming device leads to freezing and buffering, which can be solved by reinstallation.
Let’s continue to unwrap!
Why Does ITVX Keep Freezing?
To answer the question “why” you first need to identify the type of freezing with your ITVX app!
Freezing Vs. Buffering?
If the app is freezing while in the menus, or when you open ITVX, it’s likely that your playout device is freezing and not the ITVX app.
In contrast, if the freezing happens during show streaming, it’s more likely that you’re facing “buffering”, which is due to your internet connection.
So, based on the type of freezing, you might have to optimise your internet connection and WiFi or perform ITVX app reinstallation.
Either way, the solution guide below should help, so jump in!
4 Simple Ways To Fix When ITVX Keeps Freezing!
Tip: Try all of the solutions!
1. Power Cycle your ITVX Playout
The easiest step that you should attempt before everything else is to restart your playout device, and test after rebooting the operating system.
If your streaming device is connected to a power outlet, unplug the adapter for 60 seconds, and for mobile devices, use the power button.
Note: If you’re streaming ITVX on a browser, close the browser, reboot your computer or laptop and test accessing ITVX again.
2. Verify Your Internet Connection!
The internet connection is one of the fundamental requirements when it comes to streaming any online platform, including ITVX.
So, as per your device and type of internet connection, you need to justify that everything works properly.
To stream ITVX, you need an internet speed of 2 MBps and above!
In addition, any internet or WiFi instability such as fluctuations and downtime, ultimately leads to extended buffering, which might appear as freezing.
So, feel free to reboot your WiFi router and reconnect your device to the network. This will refresh the networking services for a fresh start.
Tip: We recommend testing streaming ITVX on your Ethernet-wired computer!
3. Clear Your Browser’s Cache Data
Note: Skip this step if you’re streaming ITVX through the app and not from the web!
When streaming ITVX through a web browser, but the streaming is constantly freezing, but your internet is intact, then perhaps the issue comes from data corruption.
So, one way would be to test on another browser or clear the cache data, history and cookies on your current browser.
Here’s how to clear the cache data on the Google Chrome browser:
- First, open the Google Chrome web browser.
- Then click on the three dots menu on the top.
- Next, hover your cursor over the “History” tab.
- Then click on the History tile to get redirected.
- Click “Clear Browsing Data” from the left menu.
- Then, check the “Cached Images & Files” box.
- Optional: Also clear the History and Cookies.
- Click on the “Clear Data” button at the bottom.
Note: When you’re ready, restart your browser and then test whether ITVX is still freezing!

Note: This step does not apply to ITVX web streaming!
