If you happen to have purchased your smartphone from Verizon recently, it’s automatically compatible.
NOTE: You need to ensure that both your device and the device you’re contacting are compatible with advanced calling.
Step #2: Enable Advanced Calling or HD Voice
If you purchased your device from Verizon in the past year or so, it should, by default, be activated. But, if it’s not activated, here’s a step-by-step guide on how you can do it on both iPhones and Android devices.
Activating HD Voice on Android
- From Home, go to Settings.
- In Settings, navigate to Network & Internet > Advanced Calling.
- On the upper-right corner, toggle the radio button to turn it on or off.
- Check the box beside HD Voice to activate it.
Activating HD Voice on iPhones
- Open Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options.
- From there, tap on Voice and Data.
- Then, enable LTE > VoLTE.
- Check and make sure that WiFI calling has been enabled.
After this, the advanced calling feature should now be activated and be ready for use!
Step #3: Ensure That You’re Connected to LTE
Oftentimes, we tend to think that our devices are connected to LTE just because we’re able to access mobile data.
But, that’s not actually what the case is. In fact, LTE is not widespread across the U.S. There are certain spots where there’s no LTE coverage, and that’s what you need to take note of, too.
To check if you’re connected to LTE, look at the upper-right or upper-left side of your phone’s screen while on mobile data.
If you see “LTE” there, then that means you’re connected. Otherwise, toggle Airplane Mode ON/OFF for about 15 seconds to refresh the network connection.

- MMSC: mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms
- APN Roaming Protocol: IPv4
- Multimedia Message Port: 80
- APN Type: default/supl,mms
Changing APN Settings on iPhones
If you’re doing it on an iPhone, open the Apps Menu, and then access Settings. From there, go to Cellular > Mobile Data Options > APN Settings.
Input these details onto the fields:
- APN: vzwinternet
- MMSC: http://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms
- MMS Max Message Size: 1048576
- MMS UA Prof URL: apple.com/mms/uaprof.rdf
When you’re finished inputting all of these details, save the changes, and exit the page.
