The best thing you want to know if you don’t have access to your TalkTalk mail account is there are several solutions to fix it. Work your way down the list until you find one that resolves this problem.
#1: Double Check Your Password and Type it Accurately
If you want to know why is Talktalk Mail not working, one of the simplest solutions is that there’s a typo as you entered your password.
It could be a stuck caps lock button or an issue with your keyboard.
You’re going to need to retype your password accurately, here’s how you do it:
On TalkTalk webmail:
- Go to the TalkTalk webmail login page.
- Type your email address and password accurately.
- Click the Log In button.
On Outlook:
- Open Outlook email client.
- Click on the File tab.
- Choose Account Settings.
- Click the Email option.
- Choose your saved TalkTalk account.
- Select the Change Password button.
- Type your old password, then your new one.
- Click the Save button.
Here are some tips on how to type your password accurately:
- Pay attention to the letter case, especially the caps lock button.
- Do not copy and paste your password from another source.
- If you are using a password manager, select it correctly.
- If you’re still having problems, type using a different keyboard.
If you’re still unable to access your TalkTalk mail, proceed to the other methods below.
#2: Reset Your TalkTalk Mail Password
If it says that the password you’re entering is not correct, you have forgotten your password, or someone accessed your account. To deal with this, you need to reset your password as soon as possible.
Here’s how to do this:
- Go to the TalkTalk Mail login page.
- Click the Forgotten Your Password link.
- Type your email address and click the Submit button.
- Click on the Reset Password link.
- Enter your new password.
- Re-type it again to confirm your new password.
- Log in to your email via webmail.
Note: You want to make sure that your password is at least 8 characters long with one uppercase letter, one lowercase, and one number.
#3: Switch to a Different Browser
There are instances when your browser has an issue with access to TalkTalk Mail’s webmail platform. If this is the case, it will prevent you from accessing your mail properly.
Here’s how to switch to a different browser and access your mail:
- Open a different browser on your device.
- If you are using Chrome, we recommend using Firefox or Edge.
- Go to the webmail login page.
- Enter your email address and password.
- Click on the Login button to see if you are able to access your account.
Pro Tip: A quick alternative would be to access your TalkTalk Mail account via an incognito or private window on your current browser.
#4: Enable JavaScript on Your Browser
If you rely on TalkTalk Mail’s webmail platform, you’re going to need to have JavaScript enabled on your browser for it to work properly.
It will provide you with a better experience, especially with webmail. If it’s disabled, TalkTalk Mail will not work as expected.
To enable JavaScript on your browser, follow these steps:
On Chrome:
- Click the three-dot menu in the top right.
- Go to Settings.
- Scroll down and select Advanced.
- Under Privacy and Security, click Content Settings.
- Navigate to JavaScript, and select Allow All Sites to Run JavaScript (Recommended).
- Click Done.
On Firefox:
- Click the three-line menu in the top right.
- Select Options.
- Go to the Privacy and Security tab.
- Navigate to Permissions, then select JavaScript.
- Choose Allow All Sites to Run JavaScript.
- Click on Save Changes.
Tip: This is enabled on most browsers by default but is usually disabled if you’re experiencing issues in accessing websites.
#5: Update Your Browser to the Latest Version
Your browser should update itself automatically. However, there are instances when it won’t, causing your browser to be outdated.
Whenever this happens, it’s going to be prone to bugs and compatibility issues, which will affect your TalkTalk Mail access.
To update your browser, follow these steps:
On Chrome:
- Click the three-dot menu in the top right.
- Go to Help.
- Select About Google Chrome.
- Your browser will search for available updates.
- Wait for the update to download and install automatically.
On Firefox:
- Click the three-line menu on the top right.
- Select Help.
- Choose About Firefox.
- If an update is available, it will download and install it automatically.
Note: After updating, your browser will restart automatically, so you better expect it to avoid any confusion.
#6: Clear Your Browser’s Cache and Cookies
When your TalkTalk Web Mail not working properly, the main culprit that causes this is the temporary files saved on your browser.
These cache and cookies help your browser in loading pages faster. However, they can cause problems when they become outdated.
To clear your browser’s cache and cookies, here’s what you need to do:
On Chrome:
- Select the three-dot menu in the top right.
- Go to Settings.
- Navigate to Advanced.
- Under Privacy and Security, click Clear Browsing Data.
- Select Cookies and Other Site Data and Cached Images and Files.
- Click the Clear Data button.
On Firefox:
- Click the three-line menu in the top right.
- Select Options.
- Go to the Privacy and Security tab.
- Under Cookies and Site Data, click on Clear Data.
- Choose Cookies and Cached Web Content.
- Click the Clear Now button.
Note: This will help improve your browser's performance and fix some problems however, it will also delete your saved login information, browsing history, and other data.
There are other ways to access your TalkTalk Mail account, and webmail is just one of them. If you’re not the type to use it, consider the other solutions below.
#7: Settle Your Account’s Outstanding Balance
TalkTalk Mail is a premium service or part of your broadband account. You need to settle any outstanding balance on your account to continue using it. They will suspend your account until you’re able to pay it off.
Here’s how to pay off any balance on your TalkTalk account:
- Go to the TalkTalk website and sign in to your account.
- Click on the My Account tab.
- Select the Billing tab.
- Navigate to the Outstanding Balance section.
- Click the Pay Now button.
- Enter your payment details and click the Pay button.
Note: TalkTalk accepts various payment methods like a debit or credit card, direct debit, PayPoint, or cash in their store.
#8: Monitor Your Mailbox Space and Remove Old Emails
TalkTalk provides you with 10GB of storage space for your emails. It does seem a lot, but if you’re using your email for a lot of things, it can fill up fast.
If you use up all the space, you’re going to have problems receiving or sending new messages.
Here’s how to delete emails to free up your mailbox on TalkTalk Mail:
- Go to your email Inbox, on webmail or email client.
- Choose the emails you want to delete.
- Click the Delete button to remove the emails.
- Confirm that you want to delete selected emails.
Tip: If you want to delete a large number of emails, click on the Select All option to remove all messages in a particular folder.
#9: Update Your Email Client
If you’re accessing your TalkTalk Mail on an email client such as Outlook or Mail, you want to make sure that it’s using the latest version of the app.
Outdated clients will cause problems like sync errors, missing messages, or incorrect settings.
Here’s how to update your email client:
- Click the File or Settings tab.
- Choose Account or About.
- Select Check for Updates.
- Click Update Now.
Note: After completing the update process, restart your email client and see if you’re able to access your TalkTalk account.
If, at this point, you’re still unable to get your TalkTalk Mail to work, you need to double-check your mail settings.
Your client is not able to communicate with the servers, so you need to update it by following the succeeding method.
#10: Check Your Email Settings
There are instances when TalkTalk Outgoing Mail Server not working. This means that the email settings that your client is using are either outdated or incorrect.
Here’s how to fix it:
- Open the email client you’re using with TalkTalk Mail.
- Go to the Settings or Options menu.
- Click Accounts or Mail
- Choose your TalkTalk Mail account from the list.
- Click on Edit and change the settings.
Under Incoming Mail Server, use these settings:
- Incoming mail server: mail.talktalk.net
- Port: 993
- Security: IMAPS
Under Outgoing Mail Server, use these:
- Outgoing mail server: smtp.talktalk.net
- Port: 587
- Security: STARTTLS
- Username: Your TalkTalk email address
- Password: Your TalkTalk email password
