2. No Internet
In case your Roku device is not connected with a reliable internet connection, you will either be unable to access the app or all shows will buffer extremely.
3. Corrupted Data
If there is corrupted data within the app or you’ve deleted an important system log, the Spectrum app might fail to load.
4. Roku Issue

5. Location Problem
If you’ve altered the location of your Roku via VPN or other location service program, your access to Spectrum servers will be denied.
There are other possibilities such as a temporary OS glitch with the app or with the Roku so next, we’ll address ALL of them.
How To Fix Spectrum App Not Working On Roku Issue?
Before we proceed, have you tried re-logging from your Spectrum account? Roku might often deny access to Spectrum servers and with a simple relog, you might be able to get things going.
If that didn’t work, here are some things to try.
Solution #1. Perform A Hard Reset On Roku
If you don’t know what is a hard reset, this is a way to discharge your devices and remove potential power malfunctions that might have developed over time.
It is also known as a power cycle, and the only requirement is to be patient and wait long enough for the power to completely flush.
Here is how to perform a hard reset on your Roku device:
- Power OFF your Roku device.
- Unplug the Roku drive and the power adapter of the device.
- Wait for 5 minutes.
- Plug the adapterback in the power source and the drive afterward.
Tip: Plug the Roku device directly into a wall outlet to evade possible power interferences with strips or dividers.
Solution #2. Security Update
Many users suggest that they’ve been entering their password wrong all along and this is the reason their access to Spectrum was denied.
If you’re certain that both your username and password are correctly inputted, try changing the password since there could be a security breach.
If you don’t know how to change the password, here are the steps:
- On the log-in page, click on “Forgot Password”.
- Enter your e-mail address and send a confirmation note.
- Go to your email and click on the note.
- On the following screen, confirm the new password by typing it twice in both fields.
Once you’re done, try logging in with the new password. If you were unable to send a confirmation note in the first place, then your account most likely got hacked and you must contact Spectrum immediately.
Solution #3. Troubleshoot Internet Connection
It is possible that your Roku has lost connection with the network, resulting in failures when trying to connect with the Spectrum servers.
You will need internet with at least 40 Mbps speed to browse Spectrum normally and enjoy the middle and minimal resolution average of shows.
If your Roku lost internet connection or the connection is too slow, here are some tips to troubleshoot with:
Hard reset router/modem
To hard reset your router/modem, unplug the power adapter and wait for 5 minutes. Then, plug the power adapter back in and test.
Relocate Roku/Router
Ensure your Roku and the network router/modem are in a considerable range from one another.
Reduce network usage
Stop downloading, uploading, seeding and make sure to disconnect unused devices from your network and test the Spectrum status.
Tip: To check if you have an internet connection, log on to any other device connected to your network (including your phone) and check the Wi-FI status.
If your connection is not the issue but your access to Spectrum is still denied, proceed with our next solution.
Solution #4. Reinstall The Spectrum App
If your network status is normal, then you should re-install the Spectrum app. If there is corrupted data, a reinstall should definitely fix the issue and grant you your access to Spectrum back.
To re-install the app, follow these steps:
- Go to the storage unit of your Roku.
- Locate the Spectrum app.
- Locate the delete button and wait for the uninstall to finish.
- Go to the application store and download theSpectrum app cleanly.
Once you’re done, try logging into Spectrum again. If it is still not working, let’s proceed with the next solution.
Solution #5. Update Roku Firmware
If Spectrum not working on Roku by this moment, another cause would be outdated Roku firmware.
Older versions of Roku may not support the most recent shows and resolutions and in that regard, the app may crash or your access will be denied once the outdated firmware is detected.
To check your Roku firmware and update it, follow these steps:
- On your remote, hit the Home button and go to the settings.
- Locate the System tab and enter it.
- Go to System Update and click on Check Now.
- Once the check is done, click on the Update.
- Wait for the update to complete.
Note: Your device may restart during the update but do NOT power it down.
This may sufficiently damage the firmware and you will have to manually apply the update packages later.
Solution #6. Change Roku Bitrate
So far we went over ALL essential factors of your Spectrum configuration and now we’ll focus on your Roku device.
By changing the Bitrate you can limit the Roku data usage, thus improving the application compatibility and performance.
Here is how to access and lower the Roku Bitrate:
- Press the Roku remote Home button 5 times.
- Go to Manual selection.
- You can try with 12Mbs, 7.5Mbs, and 5Mbs.
Note: For instance, 7.5Mbs will take up to 3.4GB of data per streaming hour. That makes about 200GB in total for one month.
