Why is Sky Glass TV Stuck On Sky Cinema?
If the Sky Glass keeps getting stuck while attempting to broadcast Cinema content, chances are that the audio files are corrupted, or the Sky Glass’s firmware is outdated.
To provide a better understanding of the issue, the first step is to review all possible causes before troubleshooting!
Here’s what could cause the Sky Glass to freeze on Sky Cinema:
Does Sky Cinema Have An App?
After ordering the Sky Cinema package, you will not be granted an application or a platform to view the purchased content.
Instead, the purchased content from the 11 channels that come along with Sky Cinema will be included in the movie content tab of Sky Glass.
Note: The Glass TV must be updated to view most Sky Cinema content!
How to Access Sky Cinema On Glass TV?
Since no application is available for Cinema subscription, viewing content accessed via the subscription is possible through the “Movies” tab on your Sky Glass.
So, navigate to “Movies” from the home page, and you will be granted access to all content available with Sky Cinema.

1. Hard Reset the Sky Glass TV!
To address temporal functionality issues with the Sky Glass, it’s advised to conduct a hard reset.
By unplugging the TV’s power adapter and connecting it back in, there’s a high chance of resolving underlying issues with the TV system and addressing functionality issues with apps.
Here’s how to perform a hard reset on the Sky Glass TV:
How to Check Sky Cinema Availability?
It’s likely that the Sky Cinema package is temporarily unavailable due to ongoing outages or issues with the service.
To determine if an outage affects your area of residence, it is advised to use the service checker tool available for all of Sky’s clients.
- Navigate to sky.com/help/servicestatus and check the “Streaming TV” section!
If there are no found outages with a particular service offered by Sky, there will be a green mark underneath the section with the message: “No known issues in your area”.
If, however, either the “Streaming TV” section or “Sky TV” has an “X” mark, there’s an ongoing Cinema outage!
Tip: To receive more information about an ongoing outage, press the “Check Status” button!
2. Reconnect the Sky Glass to Wi-Fi!
If the Sky Glass only gets stuck when accessing Cinema content through the “Movies” tab, then you should still be able to navigate through the system menu of the TV.
If the Sky Glass TV is not connected to any internet network, no Sky Cinema content will be available.
Here are the instructions to connect the Sky Glass TV to a Wi-Fi network:
- Power off the Sky Glass and start the device again.
- Press the Home button on the Sky remote control.
- Choose “Network” and press “Right” multiple times.
- Next, wait until the network list gets fully populated.
- After that, Select your home network from the list.
- Insert the correct password and press “Connect”.
- Wait until the Sky Glass establishes the connection.
How to Connect Sky Glass Via Ethernet?
If you cannot connect the Sky Glass to Wi-Fi or the TV doesn’t get unstuck from the Cinema page, the alternative is to set up a hard-wired connection with the router.
- Thus, all you need to connect the Glass TV via Ethernet is an Ethernet cable and an available Ethernet router port!
You must also verify that the distance between the Sky Glass and the router is enough for the Ethernet cable to connect securely on both ends.
Then, plug the first end of the Ethernet into the port labelled “Ethernet” on the back of the Glass TV and into a yellow port on the router.
Note: The Sky Glass should automatically connect with the network!
3. Update the Sky Glass Firmware!
The Sky Glass receives updates automatically and only whenever the “Standby” mode is activated.
If a firmware update has been missed or you’ve accidentally exited the standby mode, the update will continue the next time your Glass TV enters standby mode again.
How to Set My Sky Glass On “Standby”?
To activate the standby mode on the Sky Glass, you must stop interacting with the TV for precisely 1 hour.
After 1 hour of inactivity, the Glass TV will automatically enter standby mode and start the pending firmware update uploaded by the provider.
The update typically lasts 5-6 minutes!
The pending firmware update should start after the Sky Glass has been on “Standby” for at least 60 seconds.
The Sky logo will appear on the centre of the Glass’s display, and the update will start as long as the Wi-Fi is connected to Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
Note: It is impossible to manually update the firmware of the Sky Glass TV through the system!
4. Renew the Sky Cinema Subscription
Another reason why Sky Glass TV stuck on Sky Cinema, is because of an inactive subscription.
Your access to Sky Cinema could get suspended due to not completing the scheduled monthly payments or re-configuring the promised benefits of the subscription.
Here’s how to reactivate the Sky Cinema subscription in your account settings:
- Go to the official home page of the Sky website.
- After that, scroll down to “Manage My Package.”
- Locate the “Manage Package” link underneath.
- On the following page, sign in to your Sky account.
- Then, tap “Sky Cinema” in the package options.
- Lastly, check the expiry date of the subscription.
When ready, press the “Proceed” button to renew the subscription added to your Sky package.
You will be prompted to provide personal and billing information to complete the payment, and if the validation is successful, your access to Sky Cinema will be restored.
Notice: A suspended subscription may take up to an hour to reactivate!
5. Factory Reset the Sky Glass TV!
If everything else fails, applying a factory reset on the Sky Glass is the most potent resolution to streaming issues with the Sky Cinema content.
This process will erase all content and data on the Sky Glass, including all installed apps and configured settings, so create a backup!
Here’s how to restore the Sky Glass TV to initial factory settings:
- Press the “Home” button on your remote.
- Next, navigate to “System Management”.
- Locate the “Reset and Updates” section.
- To start, select “Factory Reset” and wait.
Note: Once the factory reset has been activated, the Sky Glass will be inactive for 3-4 minutes, so do not interact with the device.
How to Unsubscribe From Sky Cinema?
If you’ve failed to resolve the issue, unsubscribing for all Sky Cinema benefits might be the only way to prevent the Glass TV from getting stuck while streaming content.
However, removing Sky Cinema from your channel lineup is the only possible way to call Sky customer support directly, so for information on your subscription plan, call “0333 759 1018.”
Once a customer support agent has responded to your call, provide them with the required info and request a cancellation of the “Sky Cinema” subscription.
The Sky agent will recognise the subscription and remove it from your channel lineup to prevent your TV from getting stuck…
