Shaw Blue Curve Not Recording – Fixed!
After learning more about this problem’s occurrence, we could confidently say that we’ll be resolving your problem by the end of our guide.
The solutions we’ve extracted consist mainly of user opinions and some recommendations and suggestions from Shaw themselves.
Let’s jump right in!
Solution #1 Reschedule the Recording
Recording via Shaw BlueCurve is only possible whenever the recording is scheduled.
Therefore you’ll have to access the guide, first, choose a channel from which you’ll be recording and then select the appropriate time interval.
Since live channels have a particular schedule for upcoming shows, selecting a specific interval of time is essential for recording.
Here’s how to reschedule the recording on your Shaw BlueCurve:
- On your PVR remote, press the “Guide” button.
- Navigate through the available programs.
- Highlight the program you wish to record.
- Select the program and press “OK”.
There are two different ways to schedule a recording:
- The show is ongoing – Press “Info” > “Right Arrow” > “Record”
- The show is about to come – Select “Info” > “Right Arrow” > “Schedule”
Based on whether the show is currently ongoing or it is about to start broadcasting soon, you could record what’s currently on or set up a schedule.
Tip: With schedule, recordings are well-known to come out in better quality and store faster.
Solution #2 Record a Different Channel/Broadcast
The most common cause for recording issues is conflicts between higher-priority recordings that are currently happening at the same time on a different channel.
There’s some sort of interference that happens with the same recordings on different channels that users report and that essentially prevents the recording.
What you should do now is have a TV show or a movie recorded on a different channel.
Here’s how:
- On your BlueCurve PVR remote, press “Guide”.
- Begin scrolling through the available channels.
- Select a channel, different from the one you wished to record.
- Press “Info”.
- Select “Record”.
- Either set up a schedule or begin recording immediately.
- Check the results…
Tip: Record only channels that you know were originally included in your subscription.
Solution #3 Refresh BlueCurve’ System
Perhaps bringing your BlueCurve system to a refresh, could settle a problem or two with the recording’s availability.
In simple words, the refresh will do exactly what the name suggests – refresh your system.
You’ll have all of the services, prompts and storages of your BlueCurve refreshed, as when you’re rebooting your device physically. However, this will also erase the temporal cache.
Here’s how to refresh your BlueCurve in simple steps:
- On your BlueCurve TV remote, press the Shaw Button.
- Select “Settings” (the gear icon on the page).
- Choose “Help”.
- Scroll down and locate the “System Refresh” button and select it.
- Press “Refresh Now”.
- Wait…
Once the refresh has been triggered on your BlueCurve, for the next upcoming minutes, your device will not respond. Once the process is finished, attempt to record on your device.
Note: Make sure to wait out the refresh’s full being or you may not fix the recording.
Solution #4 Free Up Recordings Storage
One of the things that should come first to mind is that your Recordings Storage is full.
Walking out from that, you’ll be unable to store new footage, if the particular storage limit has been exceeded.
Your Shaw BlueCurve recording device has a certain storage limit that can be filled with recordings and once filled, no new files can be stored any longer.
Here’s how to access your device’s recordings storage and delete files:
- Press the Shaw Button on your device’s remote.
- Navigate to “Saved” from the Main Menu.
- Choose “Recordings”.
- View all of the programs that have been recorded.
- Highlight the recorded content from the channels that you wish to delete.
- Press the delete button, related to a physical button at the top of the page.
- Wait…
Make sure to only save content that you wish to view later and delete all of the files that you’ve already watched or aren’t planning on viewing anytime soon.
Alert: Deleting recordings is an irreversible process and once deleted they can’t be brought back.
Solution #5 Power Cycle the BlueCurve Device
If nothing worked so far, perhaps it’s an issue with the physical storage of your device.
The best way to handle hardware problems with your BlueCurve recording devices is to perform the Power Cycle process.
This will discharge the device of left-over/remaining electricity and refresh the hardware along with the software.
- To perform a Power Cycle, unplug your Shaw BlueCurve from the power
Once unplugged into the device, wait for a total of 60 seconds until the device is completely discharged and feels cold to the touch.
You could also wait for more if you want the power cycle to discharge all components of your recording device.
Tip: The recommended time for keeping the device unplugged is usually 5 minutes.
Solution #6 Factory Reset the PVR
If nothing worked so far, we strongly recommend performing a Factory Reset Process.
This is our ultimate solution and will result in the data wipe of your PVR.
Only apply this if you’ve already tried all of our solutions and nothing seems to be helping with the recording of your BlueCurve.
Let’s learn how to perform a Factory Reset in easy steps:
- Locate the small pinhole on the back of the TV box and insert a pin or a paperclip
Inside the pinhole is the Reset Button of your BlueCurve device and when holding it for 15 seconds, the reset will be triggered.
Make sure to hold the button down for at least 15 seconds or the reset won’t go through.
Alert: Once the PVR has begun resetting, avoid any interactions with the device!
