If your Philips TV volume not working, there are quite a few places you need to check in order to identify and solve the problem.
The volume of your Philips TV can usually be adjusted from three places:
- From the remote
- Panel/hardware buttons
- TV settings
If your Philips TV volume is not working from the remote or panel buttons, first, perform a power cycle and test from both. You should also attempt to control the volume from the settings and in case nothing works, you should factory reset the TV.
Why Are The Philips TV Volume Buttons Not Working?
If the remote volume buttons of your Philips TV aren’t working, it is most likely to be a fault related to the remote itself.
In case the side/panel buttons are not working, then there is a problem with your TV.
Knowing that, here are some of the most frequently reported causes:
1. Worn-Out Batteries
The batteries inside of your remote might have run out of charge, therefore you won’t be able to adjust the volume remotely.
2. IR Obstruction
An object might be blocking the signal coming out of your remote and preventing it from reaching your TV’s IR receiver (eye).
3. Software Problems
Your Philips TV might be running into software glitches or bugs, due to outdated or corrupted operating systems.
4. Media Issue
If the current media you’re streaming on your Philips TV has no volume track, you won’t hear a thing from your TV even when increasing the volume.
5. Speakers Malfunction
In case the speakers of your TV are broken, you should be able to hear sound on connected 3rd party devices to test with.
Now when having a better understanding of what surrounds such an issue, let’s proceed with addressing each of the possibilities until we solve the problem.
How To Fix Philips TV Volume Not Working?
As we’ve mentioned earlier, the issue can be either with your Philips television or remote.
In that regard, our solutions will include actions against both instances and an additional way to control the volume of your Philips TV without using either of them.
Let’s begin with solving issues with controlling volume with your remote:
Solution #1 Power Cycle The Remote
One of the main reasons you’re unable to control the volume of your Philips TV is because the remote has developed OS issues.
The easiest approach you can undertake this early in our guide is power cycling the remote.
Here’s how to power cycle your Philips TV remote in easy steps:
- Grab your Philips TV remote and turn it upside down.
- Locate the battery compartment and the latch.
- Pull the latch towards you until the battery cover comes off.
- Eject the batteries.
- Press each button on the remote at least twice.
- Wait for about 5 minutes until the remote fully discharges.
- Re-insert the batteries.
Note: Keep in mind that using the original Philips TV remote is highly recommended.
Solution #2 Change Remote Batteries
Whenever a power cycle does not help with the volume of your Philips TV, we suggest replacing the batteries of the remote.
Insert a fresh pair and test if the remote will not be able to adjust the volume of your Philips TV.
Be careful when inserting the batteries since they have to be in the correct position and make good contact with the electricity poles in the compartment.
Is Remote Working?
To find out if your remote is working, after all, take your smartphone’s camera and point it towards the remote’s IR “eye”. Press a button and check if the red light will blink.
- Blink on the press – means your remote is working.
- No blink – means your remote is not sending a signal.
Solution #3 Hard Reset Your TV
In case your remote is working but cannot change the volume of your Philips TV, you should perform a hard reset.
This will discharge the TV, and restart ALL services, providing a fresh start upon the next startup.
Here’s how to hard reset your Philips TV easily:
- Turn OFF your TV using the remote.
- Unplug the power adapter.
- Wait for 5 minutes.
- Re-attach the power adapter into the source.
Note: Volume and sound problems can be caused by a problematic power source your TV is connected to. Make sure to only standalone use wall outlets
Solution #4 Reappear Volume Bar
In case the Philips TV remote volume not working the volume bar might be hidden.
Luckily, there is a way to make the volume bar reappear through the settings.
Proceed with the instructions below to bring back the volume bar of your Philips TV:
- Grab your Philips TV remote.
- Press the Menu button and then the right cursor.
- Go over to Installation from the TV’s menu and choose Preferences.
- Use the cursor up and down to select the OSD.
- Once you’re done with that, press the cursor right.
- In the following tab, press up/down to select NORMAL.
- Lastly, hit the OK button to confirm the changes.
- Exit the menu.
You should now test if the problem is still there. In case the volume was working but simply the bar was not appearing, the problem should now be solved.
Solution #5 Adjust Volume From Settings/Hardware
A great workaround past this problem is to adjust the volume from the settings.
If the volume buttons on your Philips TV remote don’t seem to do anything, try adjusting the setting from the Options tab in your Philips TV menu.
Here’s how to adjust the volume from the settings of your Philips TV:
- Open the settings of your Philips TV.
- Press the “Sound” tab and go to “Sound Settings”.
- Locate the volume slider and use the up/down buttons.

How To Adjust Volume From Panel Buttons?
Remember that you can also adjust the volume, using the panel buttons on the side of your TV.
Peek over and you should see a Source button, channel up/down, Menu button as well as volume up/down buttons.
Press the volume buttons to adjust the sound of your Philips TV.
Solution #6 Reset Your Philips TV
If nothing worked out so far, you should factory reset your Philips TV. This is a proven way to fix glitches and software bugs since it’s reinstalling the entire operating system.
Here’s how to reset your Philips TV to factory default settings:
- Go to the Settings tab on your TV.
- Access the RESET AV SETTINGS option.
- Choose RESET and confirm.
- Press the MENU button on your remote to exit and wait.
Alert: Be informed that a factory reset will permanently erase and reset ALL settings, data, and configurations on the Philips TV.
