If your NOW TV keeps losing internet connection, we have the solution!
When identifying network issues on any device, there are quite a few factors to take into consideration.
It’s worth noticing that this problem could be with your network router, rather than the NOW device.
Let’s start with a quick overview of what’s to come in our guide!
To fix when NOW TV keeps losing its internet connection, unplug the device and perform a power cycle. After that, trigger a Software Update and adjust the bitrate to “Automatic”. In case nothing worked, the last-resort method is to Factory Reset the NOW device!
To review these solutions in proper detail, keep reading our fix guide!
NOW TV Keeps Losing Internet Connection – Fixed!
Regardless of whether you have the NOW TV streaming stick or streaming box, you should attempt all of the solutions and fixes in this guide.
They are universal for all NOW devices and should help you troubleshoot the problem appropriately, step-by-step.
Let’s jump straight in with the fix!
Solution #1 Unplug Your NOW Device
An easy and effective solution you should try is to Reconnect the NOW device!
This will cause all systems and the software of the NOW device to be refreshed and repair the performance of the network.
It will also cause a full discharge of the NOW device’s electricity, which will also help with hardware problems of the streaming media.
How to reconnect your NOW device:
- Disconnect the NOW device from your TV.
- Wait for 5 minutes, while the device is unplugged.
- Connect the NOW device to a different HDMI port.
- Wait for the device to boot up.
- Turn on your TV.
- (Optional) Select the new source where your device is plugged in.
- Reconnect the NOW device to the WiFi.
We also suggest plugging the NOW cable box or streaming stick into a different HDMI port on your TV. This will fix any resolution or picture problems you’re also having.
Note: If there’s a problem with the TV’s HDMI port, the NOW device will lose power.
Solution #2 Hard Reset the Network Device
Perhaps, this problem exists in your network router, rather than the NOW device!
What you should do at this point is perform a Hard Reset on your modem or router.
Network issues could be identified when not only your NOW streaming stick/box has network issues but all of the connected devices.
To fix this, let’s hard reset your network device!
How to hard reset a network device:
- Press the Power Button on your network device (if it has one).
- Wait for the unit to shut down.
- Detach the Power Cable from the network device.
- Wait for 5 minutes while the device’s cable is unplugged.
- Reconnect the power adapter back into your network device.
- Press the power button to start the device up.
- Reconnect your NOW streaming media.
In case the problem is persistent, jump to the next solution!
Solution #3 Change the Connection’s Bitrate
Adjusting the Data Settings or the ‘Bitrate’ may help improve the connection.
If the connection is running a high amount of bitrate that your NOW device cannot support, you’ll be frequently disconnected from the network.
You should set the setting to “Automatic”, to make the bitrate dynamic. Let’s look up how to adjust the bitrate on your NOW device:
- Press Home 5 times.
- Press Rewind 3 times.
- Press Fast Forward 2 times.
- Choose “Bitrate”.
- Select the slider.
- Choose “Automatic”.
- Exit the menu and save the changes made.
By setting the bitrate to automatic, you’ll allow the data quality to drop at certain times, in order to support the connection.
Otherwise, the connection will be overloaded and the NOW device will be disconnected from the WiFi network until further notice.
Note: Once your network speed is improved, set the bitrate as you like!
Solution #4 Reposition the NOW Device
The wireless signal strength varies throughout your home.
By Repositioning the NOW device, you may notice an improvement in the connection’s strength and reliability.
What is specific about WiFi threads is that the stronger the network is, the weaker the physical signal is.
For instance, the 2.4GHz WiFi threads could travel farther than 5GHz and pass through specific surfaces that the 5GHz will be blocked by.
Let’s reposition your NOW:
- Unplug your TV or the NOW device only.
- Position your streaming media close to the network device.
- Install a TV to plug the NOW unit in.
- Connect the NOW device to the TV.
- Turn on the TV and select the correct source.
- (Optional) Reconnect the NOW device to the internet.
Based on your network’s specifications, you must position the NOW device in an appropriate environment. On a 2.4GHz thread, you could place the device farther from the network unit.
Note: Once the NOW device is reconnected to the WiFi, test the connection strength!

NOW TV Box Keeps Losing Internet Connection – Best Fix!
Unlike the NOW TV streaming stick, the Box also consists of a certain cable setup.
That’s another thing to pay attention to while troubleshooting since cable problems could most often cause network issues.
Let’s begin excluding the possibilities with our easy fix!
Fix #1 Software Update the NOW Device
The software of your NOW device may be too old to support the WiFi connection! No internet connection is required for the update, as long as it is uploaded.
The best approach in this situation is to have your NOW device checked for updates and apply the latest software. You could search for available updates, within your NOW box settings.
Some update scripts are already downloaded on your NOW streaming device while the unit is online and you could install them when not connected.
How to update the NOW device’ software:
- On your remote, press the Home button x5 times.
- Hit the Fast Forward button x3 times.
- Select the Rewind button x2 times.
- Navigate downwards in the menu.
- Highlight “Update Software”.
- Press the Select button.
- Choose “Check for Updates”.
- Select “Apply”.
If the process fails, you’ll need your NOW device to be connected to the internet for around 5 minutes in order to download the update.
Once the scripts are uploaded, you could install the update even when your NOW device is offline and not connected to a WiFi network.
Alert: Do not unplug or shut down your NOW device while it is still updating.
Fix #2 Identify & Fix Cable Issues
Cable issues are the worst. Difficult to identify and even more challenging to troubleshoot.
When looking at your cable setup, there’ll be no visible damage that will give you a hint of which cable has gone wrong.
You’ll have to test each of the adapters separately (by replugging it), in order to notice which one is inappropriate and must be changed.
Here are the cables you must check:
- The HDMI Cable that connects your box to the TV
- The Power Adapter of the box that supplies power
- (Optional) An Ethernet Cable that plugs in your router and NOW box
Even if the cable isn’t network-related, it could still cause connection problems if it goes faulty. An issue with the power adapter would make your box shut down frequently and therefore disconnect from the WiFi.
A reliable HDMI cable is also essential…
Note: After checking each cable, look for any visual damage to the adapters!
Fix #3 Reset the NOW Box
If nothing worked out so far, then perhaps a Factory Reset will solve the problem!
Keep in mind that this resolution is universal and will both work on the NOW stick and cable box.
You should also note that a factory reset is going to revert all settings on the device back to factory defaults and erase all contents.
Let’s learn how to do a Factory Reset:
- Using the NOW remote, go to Settings.
- Select System.
- Press Advanced System Settings.
- Choose Factory Reset.
- Enter the 4-digit code that’ll be shown by using the on-screen keypad.
- Press “Confirm”.
- Wait for the reset to undergo.
The 4-digit code will appear by using the onscreen keypad and is essential for performing the reset. If you get the code wrong, your device will not go through a reset.
Alert: Unplugging your box or turning it off will result in the cancellation of the reset process!
Quick Recap:
When NOW TV drops the connection, we need to Power Cycle the streaming device and inspect the cable situation. Next, perform a Software Update on the NOW device and connect it to a different port on your TV. In case nothing helps, perform a Factory Reset.
