Now that we know more about the solution let’s learn what’s causing the issue!
Why Is Netflix Not Working On Freesat Box?
The reason why Netflix is not working might be global, therefore other streaming apps will not activate as well.
Don’t lose any time and test whether other streaming applications are working and if not, let’s check what’s causing the issue!
Here is everything that could prevent Netflix on Freesat TV Box not to work:
- Temporal Freesat OS Issue
- No or Slow Internet Connection
- Ongoing Freesat Server Outage
- Outdated Freesat TV Box Firmware
- Software-related Bugs or Glitch
This is everything that could impact your Freesat TV Box, On-Demand content including the Netflix application.
Luckily, we’ve found a working solution for each of the above-described causes and in the upcoming solution guide, we’re going to utilize them all.
How To Fix When Netflix Not Working on Freesat Box?
In order to solve the problem as soon as possible we’re going to address each possibility in an individual manner.
That will not only help you solve the problem but also allow us to know what’s causing all this fuss and prevent the issue from appearing in the future.
Let’s jump right in!
Method #1 Reboot The Freesat Box
The very first step is to perform a Restart on the Freesat TV Box to refresh ALL services and hopefully make Netflix work again.
To take this method one step further, we’re also going to power cycle the device, which requires unplugging the machine from the power.
Follow the steps below to power cycle your Freesat Box:
- Switch OFF the Freesat TV Box.
- Unplug the Power Adapter from the power.
- Wait for at least 3 minutes for the device to discharge.
- Reconnect the Power Adapter and turn on the TV Box.
When the power circulation is over, all we need to do next is open Netflix and test whether the app will now work.
In case you’re still seeing an error or simply the application won’t open, keep reading the rest of the methods.
Method #2 Reconnect to the Internet
To be able to watch On-Demand, with Freesat TV Box, we need to be connected to the Internet using an Ethernet cable or WiFi.
The wired connection is always more reliable than the WiFi, but even if you’re on a wireless setup, no worries, we’re doing everything possible!
It’s important to get your Freesat TV Box reconnected to the internet first!
Connect Freesat via Ethernet Cable:
- Acquire an Ethernet Cable.
- Plug one end into the “Ethernet” port of your Freesat Box.
- Connect the other end to one of the yellow ports of your router.
- The Ethernet cable ports should start blinking when there is a data transfer!
Connect Freesat via WiFi:
- From the Home Screen, go to Settings.
- Tap on Network Connection.
- Select Wireless (WiFi).
- Choose your Home WiFi Network.
- Insert the Password to connect.
Now when your Freesat Box is connected to the internet it’s time to test Netflix.
In case the app is still not working, keep in mind that being connected to the WiFi, does not mean that your box is having internet.
Proceed further only if you’re confident that the internet is not the culprit.
Tip: Test the internet by surfing online when connected to the WiFi from a different device.!
Method #3 Check For Freesat Outage
The next step is to check whether the Freesat services are online. Whenever there is a bad server, your access to some of ALL applications might be temporarily restricted.
We can’t do anything to solve such a problem, we can only check whether there is an ongoing outage.
You can check the Service Updates Page, where any big announcements will appear or go to the official Freesat Twitter Page.
In case there is an outage that impacts a certain location throughout the UK, there you’ll definitely learn what’s wrong and when it will be OK.
In case there is an ongoing outage, you only need to wait for a few hours or at least the servers are recovered to an operational state.
If you can’t find ongoing outages, keep reading!
Method #4 Update Freesat Firmware
One of the most-efficient methods to address application issues on your device is to perform a Software Update.
When the firmware of your box gets outdated, some of the features and channels such as Netflix, might not be able to work until upgraded.
To upgrade the firmware of your Freesat TV Box, follow the steps below:
- On the Home Screen, go to Settings.
- Tap on System Settings.
- Tap on Software Update.
- Select Search For New Software.
The scan might be instant or take a few minutes based on your internet speed.
When you see “New Version Detected”, you definitely want to select Start Software Update.
The process then will take, of course, more time, but once the TV Box restarts, you’ll be able to test Netflix.
Note: You will be able to see the current software build and the one you’re updating!
Method #5 Factory Reset Freesat Box
The final and ultimate solution is to perform a Factory Reset on the Freesat TV Box!
This is an end-resort method that will entirely wipe ALL information, configuration and settings of your Freesat TV Box.
The factory reset is helpful since it removes any software-related blunders and provides a fresh start for the TV Box and the user.
Let’s learn how it’s done!
- From the Home Screen, go to Settings.
- Select the System Settings.
- Tap on Factory Default.
- Select Reset System.
The reset takes about 5 minutes on average, and you would know that the process is completed once the Freesat TV Box restarts.
Once the reset is over, your box will be disconnected from the wireless network (WiFi) so use Method #2, to connect the device to the internet and test.
