If your myQ not connecting to eero, know that this is a common issue and easy to resolve!
When your myQ is not connecting to the eero mesh system, it usually indicates that there’s an issue with your network or the myQ itself.
Luckily, in this guide, we will discuss all the possible factors why this is happening and proven-to-work methods to help establish the connection.
To fix when myQ is not connecting to Eero, soft reset the equipment, verify your Eero’s internet is active, and pause the 5 GHz Wi-Fi frequency. Also, factory reset the myQ Hub and Eero mesh and set it up from scratch.
Now let’s dive into the possible causes of this issue…
myQ Won’t Connect to eero? – Here’s Why!
Whenever your myQ system does not connect to the eero internet, you won’t be able to control your garage door opener using the myQ app.
The cause of this is a fault typically within your network, which can be related to poor signal reception or incorrect settings configuration.
Here is a summarized list of causes that could prevent your myQ from connecting:
Now that you know the possible underlying causes, let’s next proceed with the fixing steps to troubleshoot and connect your myQ to the Eero network.
How to Fix When myQ Not Connecting to Eero?
Before you begin with actual troubleshooting steps, we suggest you verify and do a few initial checks that will often resolve the myQ connectivity problem with the network.
Let’s review them:
- Make sure your eero Wi-Fi is running on all devices.
- Verify your myQ model is compatible with your eero.
- Update the myQ app and eero app to the latest version.
- Remove any wireless devices placed near the myQ Hub.
- Verify if the connection fault is not related to your VPN.
If verifying these things doesn’t help so far, proceed to the troubleshooting steps…
1. Reboot ALL Your Equipment
In most cases, a temporary network glitch is the major culprit behind the connection problem of your myQ and eero connection.
So, start by simply performing a power cycle on your myQ Hub and eero network device.
This will clear all glitches, discharge the power, and hopefully help.
Follow these steps to power cycle your devices:
Power Cycle the eero:
- Disconnect the eero device from the power outlet.
- Wait for 5 minutes while the device is unplugged.
- Plug the network device back and turn on the unit.
Power Cycle the myQ Garage Hub
- Unplug the A/C supply from the myQ Hub.
- Wait 5 minutes while the hub is unplugged.
- Connect the power supply back to the hub.
Once both devices boot up completely, then try to connect the myQ to your eero network!
2. Inspect your eero Networking
The next thing you should attempt when myQ is not connecting to eero’s connection issue is to test the eero internet directly.
To do this, grab a different smartphone connected to your eero network and stand near your myQ hub for testing.
Next, open a web browser or any streaming platform on your device and check if the internet is working fine without any lagging or speed issues.
We advise YouTube, Netflix, or HBO MAX.
There are two possible outcomes:
- If you can access good internet on your device, then your eero network is intact and the problem is related to the myQ and eero gateway. To troubleshoot this, follow all the next steps in this guide.
- If you cannot access the internet near your myQ hub, there might be something wrong with the eero network itself. In that case, check for outages and contact the ISP for a fix.
3. Temporarily Pause your 5 GHz
The eero gateway works on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi frequencies, whereas myQ Garage Door Openers connect to only 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi networks.
To eliminate this possibility, temporarily disable the 5GHz on your eero network and then check if the myQ app can connect.
Follow these steps to disable 5GHz on eero networks:
- First, launch your eero mobile application.
- Tap “Settings” from the bottom right corner.
- Tap “Troubleshooting” at the screen bottom.
- Locate and tap “My device won’t connect.”
- Finally, press on “Temporary Pause 5GHz.”
This method only disables the 5 GHz bands for 10 minutes, and it will automatically re-enable after 10 minutes.
Well, during this period, try connecting your myQ with your eero network.
If your myQ Hub still does not connect, the band is not the problem, so try the next steps!
4. Check the Network Configuration
If you are facing specific issues with your myQ Chamberlain Garage Door not working with your eero router at all, try disabling WPA3 (if enabled).
Also, you may need to simplify your SSID name and ensure myQ isn’t on the guest network, so let’s learn how to adjust these network features.
Follow these steps to check your eero network settings:
How to Disable WPA3 Protocol?
- First, launch the eero mobile application.
- Choose Discover from the bottom menu.
- Tap on “eero Labs” and look for “WPA3”.
- If enabled, tap on the toggle to turn it off.
How to Disable Guest Network?
- In the eero app, tap Settings from the bottom.
- From the settings menu, select Guest Access.
- Identify whether the Guest Network is working.
- If turned on, press on the toggle to turn it “OFF.”
How to Simplify Wi-Fi Name (SSID)?
- In the eero app, enter the “Settings.”
- You’ll see the Network tab on the top.
- Tap on Network and edit your Wi-Fi.
- Switch the name to something shorter.
- Lastly, tap the Save button to save it.
Note: Once done, simply restart your eero network to sync new changes and after that, try to connect your myQ to your main eero Wi-Fi network.
5. Resolve Environmental Interference
Sometimes, signal interference from other wireless devices near your myQ Hub can prevent it from connecting to your network.
Therefore, check to see if any devices are placed nearby, turn them off or move them away, and then try to connect.
Another good practice is to move the myQ hub closer to the eero gateway since positioning the devices closer together can improve the connection.
Additionally, if you have too many devices running on your eero network, consider disconnecting a few devices from the eero network to free up the bandwidth.
Reminder: Double-check if your eero network is accessible!
6. Update the myQ Hub Firmware Version
Outdated firmware on your Chamberlain myQ Garage Door Opener can also be the culprit behind this connectivity problem.
So, check to see if any latest update is available for your myQ unit.
If so, then update the firmware and attempt to connect your myQ to the eero network.
Follow these steps to update myQ Garage Door Opener’s Firmware:
- First, launch the myQ mobile application.
- Find and select the Garage Door Opener.
- Hit the settings (gear) icon in the top right.
- In the menu, check for the system update.
- If an update is available, tap and install it.
After you are done, then attempt to connect your myQ app to your home eero Wi-Fi system.
If the issue persists still, in the next step, factory reset your both systems and setup from scratch.
7. Factory Reset the myQ Hub and eero
If nothing worked so far and your myQ is still not connecting to the eero internet, reset the myQ hub or the entire eero network.
The factory reset process will remove every configuration from the systems and help establish a fresh connection between your myQ device and eero network.
Follow these steps to factory reset your devices:
Factory Reset myQ Hub:
- Find the Settings (gear) button on the myQ hub.
- Press the gear button until the blue LED blinks.
- While the hub is blinking blue, tap on “Settings.”
- This will pause, blink, and beep the blue hub LED.
Factory Reset eero Gateway:
- First, locate the Reset button on the eero’s back.
- Using a pin press the “Reset button” on the back.
- Then, keep holding the button for 15–20 seconds.
- When the eero flashes in red, release the button.
After the factory reset, both devices will enter the pairing mode, so try connecting your myQ Hub to your Eero network.
Quick Tip: If you’ve tried all the steps above to no avail, then it’s the correct time to contact myQ Support for further assistance.
Quick Recap
