Ring Alarm is a comprehensive home security system that helps protect your home. If you are moving to a new house, you must know how to transfer your devices and settings to the new location.
To move your Ring Alarm to a new house, change your address in the Ring app. Then, deactivate your device temporarily, disassemble your system, transport it carefully, install it, and reactivate your monitoring service.
Alright, let’s explore the details of the steps.
Moving Ring Alarm To New House – Steps to Follow
“I’m wondering: How do I move my Ring to a new house?” Here are the steps you must follow, depending on your chosen method.
Step #1: Evaluate New Home Layout
Before moving your Ring Alarm system, take time to assess your new home’s layout.
Then, decide where you want to place your devices and sensors. You should consider the following factors:
- The size and shape of your home
- The number and location of doors and windows
- The presence of pets or other sources of motion
- The availability of power outlets and WiFi signals
- The type and material of walls and surfaces
Note: Use the Ring app to make floor plans and mark device locations. Also, check your device’s health in the app.
Tip: If you need more devices or sensors, order online. Be sure to check Ring Alarm bundles for discounts.
Step #2: Deactivate Monitoring Services Temporarily
If you have professional monitoring services set up for your Ring Alarm system, don’t forget to deactivate them temporarily before moving. This will help avoid any false alarms or unnecessary fees.
Follow these steps to deactivate professional monitoring services for a while:
- Open the Ring app.
- Tap on the Menu icon in the top left corner.
- Tap on Settings.
- Tap Monitoring.
- Select a Monitoring Type.
- Tap on Self Monitoring.
- Tap Deactivate.
- Enter your Ring account password.
- Tap on Deactivate again.
Ring’s professional monitoring service will no longer monitor your Ring Alarm. But you’ll still be able to arm and disarm your alarm and get alerted if a sensor is triggered.
Tip: Deactivate professional monitoring services at least 24 hours before moving to ensure no pending alerts or requests.
Step #3: Gather and Organize Your Equipment
The next step is gathering and organizing your Ring Alarm equipment for transport.
You’ll want to ensure you have everything you need, including the base station, keypad, range extender, contact sensors, motion detectors, and other accessories.
Here are the steps to follow:
- Slide each device off its mounting bracket or unplug them from the power outlet.
- Remove all batteries and place them in a ziplock bag.
- Put a label on each device.
- Place each device in its own ziplock bag and wrap it in bubble wrap.
- Store all the devices in a sturdy box or container.
- Keep all mounting brackets, screws, and adhesive strips in a separate bag or box.
Note: Keep the box or container with your equipment close during the move, and do not leave it in a hot or cold environment for too long.
Step #4: Disassemble Your System
After gathering and organizing your equipment, remove your current location from the app.
All devices and settings from your current location will be removed, allowing you to set them up again at your new location.
To disassemble your system, follow these steps:
- Open the Ring app.
- Tap the Menu icon.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Locations.
- Select the location you want to remove.
- Tap Delete Location.
- Confirm that you want to delete the site.
Note: To delete a location, you must first remove all Ring devices linked to it. If you have a Ring Protect Plus subscription, video recordings from the deleted site will also be gone.
Only disassemble your system if you don’t have an address for your new location yet. If you already have an address, skip this step and proceed to step #7.
Step #5: Transporting Your Ring Alarm System
Once you have disassembled your system, transport your Ring Alarm equipment to your new home.
Secure the box or container with your equipment, ensuring it’s stable during transport.
- Pack the base station and sensors in a sturdy box.
- Label the box with the contents and your contact information.
- Ship the system to your new address.
If you are moving a long distance, move the system via a carrier that offers climate-controlled shipping. Also, remove the batteries from the sensors to avoid damaging the system.
Pro Tip: Transport your Ring Alarm equipment immediately after disassembling your system to avoid losing some of your settings or subscriptions.
Step #6: Set Up the Base Station In The New House
Upon arriving at your new home, set up the base station. The base station is the core of your Ring Alarm system and connects all your devices and sensors to the internet and one another.
To set up the base station in your new house, follow these steps:
- Plug the base station into a power outlet near your router.
- Use an Ethernet cable to connect the base station to your router.
- Wait for the base station to power up and show a blue ring light.
- Open the Ring app on your smartphone.
- Tap Set Up a Device.
- Tap on Security Devices.
- Select Base Station.
- Scan the QR code on the back or enter it manually.
- Follow the instructions to complete the setup.
Pro Tip: Set up the base station in an open and central location with a strong WiFi signal and close to most of your devices and sensors. Don’t place it near metal objects or appliances to avoid interference.
Step #7: Update Your New Location Settings
Updating your new location settings ensure your Ring Alarm system works as intended. It also allows you to access all its features and services.
To do this, follow these steps:
- Open the Ring app.
- Tap the Menu icon.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Locations.
- Select the location you want to update.
- Tap Change Address and enter your new address.
- Tap on Save.
Note: Changing the location is allowed only one at a time, and other individuals accessing this location will also see the updated address.
Step #8: Reinstall the Sensors and Detectors
Now that you’ve moved into your new home, it’s time to reinstall all the sensors and detectors. Be sure to place them according to your floor plan and test them before mounting.
To reinstall your sensors and detectors, follow these steps:
- Find a good location for the sensors.
- Remove the mounting bracket from the sensor and attach it to the door or window.
- Slide the sensor onto the mounting bracket.
- Insert the batteries (if you have contact sensors).
- Arm your Ring Alarm system.
To set up your sensors and detectors, follow these steps:
- Open the Ring app on your smartphone.
- Tap on Set Up Device.
- Tap Security Devices.
- Tap on Sensors or Detectors, depending on what you want to install.
- Scan the QR Code on the back of your device.
- Follow the instructions to complete the setup.
- Trigger each device to see if they’re working.
- Mount each device using screws or adhesive strips.
Note: Reinstall the sensors and detectors carefully to avoid malfunctions and false alarms.
Step #9: Configuring and Testing the System
Next, configure and test your Ring Alarm to customize your system based on your preferences.
Here’s how to do this:
- Open the Ring app.
- Tap on Settings.
- Tap Mode.
- Select a mode and customize settings for each.
- Adjust your setting as needed
Step #10: Reactivate Monitoring
Finally, reactivate your monitoring services to restore the connection between your Ring Alarm system and the monitoring center.
This will also allow Ring to request emergency responders on your behalf if the alarm is triggered.
Here are the steps to do this:
- Open the Ring app.
- Tap Settings, then Monitoring.
