When ITVX repeatedly displays the message “something went wrong,” start by checking your internet connection and Wi-Fi. Next, uninstall ITVX from your device and reinstall it from a clean download source.

Why Something Went Wrong ITVX?
What we know is that the “something went wrong” pop-up appears after severe buffering, and after the stream has been stuck for a few minutes.
Typically, the message appears as a result of another fault with your ITVX app, so it’s best to review all of the potential causes one by one!
To solve the ITVX error problem, you must address all of the aforementioned possibilities in an individual manner.
So if you’ve never done thorough troubleshooting before, then keep reading!
How to Fix the “ITVX Something Went Wrong” Error?
Tip: Follow the steps consecutively!
1. Verify ITVX Compatibility & Firmware!
Since ITVX is supported on many different devices, one of the first steps should be to ensure that your device and its firmware version are supported by ITVX.
In case you’ve got a device that is supported but the operating system is outdated, make sure to update before proceeding.

If you’re using a device that is not supported by ITVX, it’s highly likely that you’ll encounter any unexpected errors.
The same goes for the supported firmware, so you need to make sure that your ITVX playout device can be updated and is not out of support, which will be a dealbreaker.
Tip: Some Android TV, Freeview and Freesat models are not supported yet!
2. Restart Your ITVX Playout Device!
When you see “something went wrong”, you can’t immediately assume what’s wrong until you start troubleshooting.
This is why the first step would be to simply close the ITVX app and then power cycle your playout device, to restart all services and hopefully fix this error message!
Turn off and unplug your ITVX playout device for 60 seconds!
If you’re using a smartphone, exit the ITVX application, and power off your mobile by using the Power button on the panel.
After about 60 seconds start on your playout device and then test if the ITVX application will now work without something going wrong…
Note: Also verify that your device is compatible with the ITVX application!
3. Verify Your Device’s Internet & WiFi
The ITVX “something went wrong” message typically appears after buffering, which resembles a weak or inconsistent internet/WiFi network.
So, the next step is to verify that your playout device’s internet and WiFi are intact, by performing a few tests and measures against downtime.
Here are a couple of tips in order to improve your internet & WiFi:
- Power cycle your router by unplugging it for 60 seconds.
- Reconnect the internet service cable on the router’s back.
- Straighten up the antennas and relocate your WiFi router.
- Unpair unused devices from the WiFi to relieve bandwidth.
- Stop any network-related processes such as downloading.
- Disable any activated VPN or AdBlocker in your browser.
When you’re ready, test whether the ITVX app will start working normally on your device. In case you’re still experiencing the error message.
ITVX Something Went Wrong Ref 006?
If you see reference code “006” this means that ITVX has discovered that you’re using a VPN software, and denied your access to the app.
So, simply disable your VPN to overcome this error, or connect to a British server and test whether this would help.
4. Update the ITVX & Playout Firmware
One of the fundamental reasons why ITVX would stop the content buffering and show you the “something went wrong” message, is outdated firmware.
You need to update both the ITVX application firmware and your playout device’s firmware.
Typically, you can update from Settings > Advanced > System > Update!
However, each device has its own menus and settings so it’s best to consult with the user’s manual on how to perform a software update.
As far as the ITVX app, you only need to open the respective content store, find the app and check whether there is an available “Update” button.
Note: Updating your playout device and ITVX app requires an active internet connection!
5. Reinstall ITVX/Clear Browser Cache
If you’re using the ITVX app on any supported playout device, then the best possible solution is to perform a clean reinstallation.
This method will completely erase all application data and will allow you to start fresh, by installing ITVX from the official store cleanly.
In contrast, if you’re streaming ITVX through a browser, the “something went wrong” message might appear due to corruption in the cache data.
So, let’s learn how this method works!
How to Reinstall the ITVX App?
To reinstall the app, you first need to completely remove ITVX from your device. On different devices, this happens differently.
So follow the guidelines below:
- On Mobile, tap and hold ITVX then select “Remove” or drag it to the trash bin!
- On Smart TV, go to Settings > Apps/Storage > select ITVX > choose Uninstall.
- On Xbox, press the Xbox button > select ITVX > press the Menu button > Uninstall.
- On a TV box, use the remote to select the ITVX app > Settings > Uninstall/Remove.
- On Firestick, go to Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications > ITVX.
- On Roku, go to Home > highlight ITVX > press Options button > Remove > Confirm.
When the ITVX application is completely removed from your playout device, go to the dedicated content store to get the app back.
Then, sign into your account and stream without any errors!

How to Clear Browser’s Cache?
When you’re streaming ITVX through a web browser, you definitely need to clear the browser’s cache data, which might resolve your problem.
Here are the steps for the Google Chrome browser:
- First, click on the three-dots menu at the top right.
- Then, click on the History tile and select “History”.
- Then, on the right, click on “Clear Browsing Data”.
- Tick the following:
- Browsing history
- Cookies and other side data
- Cached images and files
When you’re ready, click on the “Clear Data” button at the bottom!
This will clear your Google Chrome browser’s cache data and hopefully resolve the “something went wrong” message on your ITVX.
When you’re ready, verify that you’re going to the official ITVX website and test signing into your account and streaming via your web browser error-free.
6. Stream ITVX on a Different Device!
In case something always goes wrong while you’re streaming ITVX on your device, then it’s not unlikely that the fault is within your device.
This is why we recommend checking whether ITVX will work on a different device, so if you have the opportunity, will finally draw a conclusion.
Simply test ITVX on any other device available at your disposal!
In case the application works on your secondary device, then it’s likely that the fault is in your previous playout device.
