According to our research, these are the factors preventing the ITVX casting feature:
Let’s also take a look at what you need to have in order to cast ITVX to Chromecast!
ITVX to Chromecast | Requirements!
To be able to cast content from the ITVX mobile application or through the Google Chrome browser on a PC or Mac, there are a few requirements.
You need to have all of the following:
- Chromecast or Chromecast Ultra.
- HDMI-enabled television or monitor.
- Consistent 2.4 GHz frequency WiFi.
- WiFi-enabled smartphone with ITVX.
- Completed Google Home app setup.
Note: Your TV doesn’t have to be smart, as long as there is an HDMI cable for the Chromecast.
How to Cast from ITVX to Chromecast?
To cast from ITVX to Chromecast, you only need to select and start playing the show you would want to cast and tap on the “Cast” icon.
Then, you will need to wait for a few seconds until your phone discovers the connected Chromecast and when you select the unit, the show will appear.
Note: If your Chromecast is not appearing in the list, then your phone is unable to see the device on your network.
How to Fix When ITVX Chromecast Not Working?
1. Connect the Setup to the Same Network!
The most important and fundamental reason why Chromecast is not appearing under the “Cast” menu in your ITVX app is that both devices can’t see each other.
This happens because they are not on the same network, not on the same WiFi and/or not connected to the same router.
How to Connect Chromecast to WiFi?
Note: The Chromecast is being connected to the WiFi during the setup!
- Turn on your Chromecast dongle.
- Then open the Google Home app.
- Go to Devices > Add New Device.
- Finalise setting up your Chromecast.
- Then, go to the Google Home app.
- Select “Devices” and find your unit.
- Tap on the three dots menu button.
- Scroll under the name of your unit.
- Check the WiFi connection’s SSID.
How to Connect a Smartphone to WiFi?
- On Android, go to Settings > Network & Internet > WiFi > Connect.
- On Apple iOS, go to Settings > WiFi > Select Network > Connect.
Are You Using a PC or Mac?
If you are using a PC or a Mac, again, verify that you’re connected to the same router as your Chromecast.
- If you’re using WiFi, it has to be the same WiFi with the same frequency
- If you’re using an Ethernet cable, then both your devices must be connected to the same router.
2. Power Cycle the Chromecast Setup!
Another reason why Chromecast ITVX not working is due to a temporary fault with the operating system of your playout device.
One of the most efficient approaches that you can undertake is to perform a power cycle on your Chromecast and your ITVX device.
Note: This method does not delete anything!
- First, exit the ITVX app on your smartphone.
- Use the power button to turn off your phone.
- Shortly after, power off your Chromecast too.
- Unplug the power adapter of the Chromecast.
- Wait for 60 seconds to discharge the dongle.
- Then power on your ITVX app smartphone.
- Plug your Chromecast directly into the wall.
- When everything is ready, test ITVX casting.
Reminder: Verify that your phone and Chromecast are on the same internet network!
3. Clear Google Chrome Cache Data
If you’re using the Google Chrome browser to watch ITVX and now you want to cast the shows on your big screen but something goes wrong, refresh your browser.
The cache data essentially keeps your login details, Cookies, browsing history and many more files, which causes issues.
So, one of the most powerful techniques when something through your browser is not working would be to clear the browser’s cache data and Cookies.
Here’s how to refresh your Google Chrome browser in easy steps:
- First, freshly re-open the Google Chrome browser.
- Then, click on the 3-dots menu, at the top right.
- Hover your cursor over “History” and click “History”.
- Then select “Clear Browsing History” on the right.
- Next, verify that all 3 x checkboxes are checked.
- Finally, click on the blue and big “Clear Data” button.
Note: When you’re ready to clear your browser’s cache, restart Google Chrome and test whether the ITVX casting will now work.
4. Uninstall and Reinstall the ITVX App!
Note: This step will not apply if you’re streaming ITVX through the web!
Sometimes the entire issue with ITVX’s inability to cast content on your Chromecast comes from a missing file or corruption in the app’s data.
On the other hand, a clean app reinstallation will verify that you’ll get the most recent app version, without having to manually update its version.
So, here’s how to reinstall the ITVX app on your mobile devices:
- First, tap and hold the ITVX app icon.
- On Android, drag the app to the trash.
- On iOS, click on “Remove” and confirm.
- On Android go to the Google Play Store.
- On iOS, enter the App Store application.
- Then, find and download the ITVX app.
Note: After the reinstallation, you will be signed out from your account, so you will need to sign in and test whether ITVX cast will now work.
5. Factory Reset Your Chromecast
Well, by now it’s clear that the problem is not from the ITVX app on your mobile phone, rather the issue comes from your Chromecast dongle.
So, one of the most effective ways to restore the cast feature from your ITVX app is to reset your Chromecast and carry out the initial setup!
How to Factory Reset Chromecast?
Here are the steps to factory reset your Chromecast device:
- Verify that the Chromecast is plugged in and on.
- Then, press and hold the button on the back.
- The device light will then turn blinking yellow.
- Release when the light becomes solid white.
- Then the Chromecast will start the reset process.
How to Setup Chromecast Initially?
When your Chromecast is reset to factory settings, open the Google Home App and then press on the Devices tab.
From there select “Add New Device” and follow the on-screen instructions to connect your Chromecast to WiFi. Then, open the ITVX application and test the casting.
Reminder: Double-check if your ITVX phone and Chromecast are on the same WiFi.
6. Test Different Devices or Media Apps
Sometimes, the reason why you’re unable to cast from your ITVX smartphone is due to the OS system firmware, or due to another incompatibility.
A nice way to tighten the circle of possibilities is to test whether you can cast ITVX from another device, or cast anything from a different app.
You can cast ITVX to Chromecast from Android and iOS mobile phones and tablets as well as from any website, as long as you’re using the Chrome browser.
In case other applications are working just well, perhaps the issue comes from ITV’s end, or with the ITVX web platform.
