Although Harmony Hub and Nvidia Shield work together through Bluetooth, they need to be on the same WiFi for the setup process.
2. Distance And Interference
Since Harmony pairs and controls your Shield through Bluetooth, your devices should be within 15 feet of each other. Physical obstructions do not interfere with the connection.
3. Harmony App Software
Install the Harmony app and keep it updated to control your Nvidia Shield with Harmony-based remotes.
The app also allows you to control other smart home devices, such as locks, lights, and thermostats.
4. Nvidia Shield Firmware
Make sure your Nvidia Shield firmware is up to date. The latest version comes with new features and bug fixes for a seamless connection with Harmony-based remotes.
Once you connect your devices to the same WiFi and update the Harmony app and Shield firmware, you can move on to the pairing process.
How to Pair Harmony Hub with Nvidia Shield

Here’s what you need to start the setup process:
- Shield TV with HDMI port
- High-speed HDMI 2.0 cable
- Internet connection
- A Google account
So, are you ready to pair your Harmony Hub with your Nvidia Shield? Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you.
Step #1: Set Up Your Nvidia Shield TV
Before pairing your Harmony Hub with Nvidia Shield, set up the TV. Plug in your Shield TV and connect your remote by following these steps:
- Turn off your TV and connect your Shield TV with an HDMI 2.0 cable.
- Plug your Shield TV into a power source.
- Connect your Shield TV to the Ethernet or WiFi network.
- Turn on your TV and change to the HDMI Input your Shield.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to sign in to your Google account.
Note: Set up your Nvidia Shield TV and install the apps you like.
Step #2: Set Up Your Harmony App and Harmony Hub
Once you’re done setting up your Shield TV, it’s time to set up the Harmony App and Hub. Start by downloading the app and setting up the WiFi.
Here’s how to set up the Harmony App:
- Download the Harmony App from your phone’s app store.
- Launch the app and tap Set Up New Hub.
- Enable Bluetooth and connect your phone to the WiFi.
- Power on the Hub. The app should find your device after several seconds.
- Once you’ve paired your Hub and phone, enter your WiFi credentials.
Note: If you have trouble setting up your Harmony app and hub, try disabling and enabling your Bluetooth.
Step #3: Add Your Nvidia Shield to the Harmony App
Next, select No, set up new when prompted. It means you do not have a previous connection and would like to enter a new device.
To add your Nvidia Shield, follow these steps:
- Launch the app and connect to the Harmony Hub.
- Under Menu, go to Harmony Setup.
- Select Add/Edit Devices & Activities, then Devices.
- Tap Add Device, then Entertainment Device.
- Enter the model and manufacturer number, then tap Add.
Note: If you are having trouble finding your Shield TV model number, go to Settings and click on Device Preferences. Choose About and tap Status.
Step #4: Create an Activity on the Harmony App
Harmony will either automatically create Activities or guide you through creating them. Select Yes when prompted to create an activity.
Continue through the series of questions to build your Watch Shield TV Activity. You can further modify these features by adding additional commands.

- Under Menu, go to Harmony Setup.
- Go to Add/Edit Devices & Activities, then Activities.
- Select the activity you want to modify.
- Scroll down, then press Edit.
- Scroll down, and press Add a Step.
Tip: If you wish to pause between the sending of commands, tap Add Delay.
Step #5: Pair Both Devices Using Bluetooth
After creating an activity, the Harmony app will display the Bluetooth pairing instructions.
Pair both devices to start controlling your Nvidia Shield TV.
Here’s how to put your Harmony Hub into Bluetooth pairing mode:
- Connect the Harmony Hub to a power supply.
- Wait for 30 seconds.
- Press the pairing/resetting button at the back of the device.
Note: If you own Harmony Pro, Elite, and Smart Control remotes, you can put the hub into Bluetooth pairing mode by holding the Menu and Mute buttons simultaneously.
Step #6: Turn Off CEC Device Control
Once your setup is complete, we suggest you turn off the CEC Device Control.
CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) is an HDMI feature that allows you to command and control your other CEC-enabled devices without user intervention.
Here’s how to turn it off:
- Press the Home button and go to Settings.
- Under Device Preferences, select Display & Sound.
- Go to Power Control.
- Set CEC TV to OFF.
Note: If you find your devices powering ON and OFF, disable the features listed to clear the issue.
To help keep your Harmony in sync with your Nvidia Shield TV, avoid turning on and off your device manually or using its original remote control.
