I’ve had guys ask me how to change email on Roku. I like telling people lots of time that they don’t need to sweat it.
You can change your Roku email in no time as long as you follow the correct steps. And best of all, you don’t need to be a seasoned IT guru to figure out how to do it.
To change email on Roku, you first need to sign in to your Roku account. You can then update your account details with the new email. Alternatively, enable Guest Mode so other people can sign in with their email accounts. Lastly, you can do a factory reset and sign up with a new email.
That’s just a teeny bit of what we’ll be doing. Let’s explore how to change email address on Roku device in detail.
Managing New Roku Device
Setting up your Roku account when you’ve got a new Roku device is one thing. But what if a friend gifts you a Roku stick or you simply want to change your details after setup?
If you’re new to Roku, there are a couple of things to note. First off, you can’t set up a Roku device if you don’t have an active account.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you can’t just customize someone else’s account by tricking Roku into accepting your email address.
However, the good news is that you can link multiple devices to one Roku account. This way, you can store all your settings and preferences in one place. Therefore, you first need to create a Roku account.
You can then easily manage your subscriptions and keep a good record of your purchase and viewing history from your Roku account.
Note: While setting up a new Roku account or changing the details, remember to enter a valid email address. This will ensure you don’t miss out on news and notifications about future upgrades.
How to Change Email on Roku?
These are the three practical ways how to change email address on Roku device:
Method #1: Unlink & Relink Your Roku Device
This method comes in handy if you’ve made a mistake while setting up your new Roku account and need to change the email.
It’s also useful if someone previously signed in to their account on your device.
Once you’ve unlinked a Roku device from your account, you can do a new setup with the new email. This process is a bit similar to creating a new Roku account.
These are the steps for changing your Roku email after unlinking a device:
- Type https://my.roku.com in your browser URL field. You can do this on your smartphone or mobile.
- Log in to your Roku account with the primary email you created and the password.
- Go to the page “My Account.”
- Find the list of connected devices at the bottom of the page.
- Select the device you want to remove, then tap on Unlink.
- Exit the page.
The Roku device will be removed from your account if you follow the above steps correctly. Next, we must enter the new email and other account details to continue the linking process.
Steps for Changing the Email
Here’s how to change the email:
- Navigate back to the Home Page.
- Tap on “My Account.”
- Choose the “Update” option.
- Enter your first and last name, then the preferred valid email address.
- Confirm the email address, then set up a strong password.
- Tap on “Save changes.”
Your Roku account has now been set up successfully with the new email address. You can also change your password by following the steps above so no one can change the email on your Roku account.
Method #2: Use Guest Mode
The Guest Mode is a relatively new feature on Roku, and it’s useful for letting others use your Roku device.
The perk of using this method is that you can keep your account signed in and let other users log in to their Roku accounts from your device.
If you’re using your house for Airbnb, this method works great since your guests can simply sign in to their accounts instead of yours.
Another cool thing about Guest Mode is that it automatically clears out your guests’ info from your device on a set date.
In my opinion, that should take a load off your mind if you’ll be having frequent visitors with Roku accounts.
There’s no chance you’ll sign in to someone else’s account to buy a movie or subscribe to some new streaming channel.
Changing Email in Guest Mode
Here’s how to change Roku account email on TV in Guest Mode:
- Press the Home button on your Roku remote.
- Go to Settings > System > Guest Mode.
- Choose Enter Guest Mode and key in the PIN you’re given.
- Press OK, then confirm your choice.
You can then log in with a different email address.
Changing Roku email on Smartphone or Computer
You can also change the email on Roku from your smartphone or computer.
Follow these steps:
- Go to my.roku.com in your web browser.
- Sign in to your account.
- Navigate to “My Linked Devices.”
- Choose your device and activate “Enable Guest Mode.”
- Enter the PIN you’re given to complete the Guest Mode setup.
Anyone can now sign in to their Roku account with a valid email address.
It’s also easy to disable the Guest Mode since other users only need to press the “Star button” on the Roku remote. Your account will then be quickly restored.
Note: Using the Guest Mode on your Roku device automatically signs you out of all subscription channels like Netflix.
What’s more, you’ll lose all the game data saved on the device. Notably, you can only view the content on your subscription channels once the Guest Mode is deactivated.
Method #3: Do a Factory Reset and Set Up New Account
Doing a factory reset on your device is the most efficient way to change your Roku email.
The good thing about it is that the Roku interface is similar across devices. So don’t worry about your TV model.
Reset Roku Using Remote Control
You can quickly reset your Roku device using its remote control.
Follow these steps:
- Press the Home button to open the main screen.
- Scroll down to Settings and press OK.
- Navigate to System > Advanced System Settings > Factory Reset
- Select Factory Reset to clear everything.
You’ve now completely removed the old Roku account and can change the email as you set up a new account.
Steps for Linking Your Email Address to Roku
You can now begin on a clean slate and link your preferred email address while setting up the account.
Follow these steps:
- Enter https://my.roku.com/signup in your browser URL field.
- Enter your first and last name.
- Enter your preferred email address and password.
- Accept the terms and conditions.
- Click Submit and finish the setup.
The best way to easily change your email on Roku is by performing a factory reset on your Roku device. Sign up with the new email once all the settings are restored to default and your account information is cleared.
