Before elaborating on the advanced solutions below, let us take the simplest yet effective method of troubleshooting a not working Harmony Hub remote.
Rebooting your Harmony Hub can solve common issues with your remote.
If your stop sending commands or responding, we recommend turning it off, then disconnecting the power cable.
Wait for at least 10 seconds and power it back up again.
If rebooting the Harmony Hub does not clear the issue, suggest you follow the solutions below based on what you think is the cause of the problem.
Solution #1: Power Cycle Your Networking Devices
You must have rebooted your Harmony Hub but to no avail. If this is the case, reboot your networking devices too.
Start with your router, followed by the modem. This should fix any connectivity issue.
- Unplug the router.
- Disconnect the modem.
- Wait for 30 seconds.
- Plug the modem back first.
- Reconnect the router.

Solution #2: Connect Your Hub to the Same Network as Your Devices

But, first, make sure your hub has power and is turned on.
- Launch the Harmony app.
- Select Set Up New Hub.
- Press the Pair and Reset button at the back of your Hub.
- Choose the WiFi network you want to connect to.
- Select Connect to complete the connection.
Tip: Your hub will connect to the new Wi‑Fi network and you will be taken to your Activity list.
Note: Make sure that you do not choose Setup since this will remove your Hub’s current configuration settings.
Solution #3: Change the Power Settings
If your devices are on the same network as your Hub, the main culprit could be your settings.
Changing the power settings allows your Hub to have control over other devices at all times.
You will be able to use your remote and you will not run into issues regarding unresponsiveness.
Here’s how to change the power settings on your Harmony Hub and remote:
- Select Menu, then Harmony Setup.
- Select Add or Edit Devices & Activities.
- Tap Devices, choose the one you want to change.
- Tap Power Settings to set your preference.
- Switch to Leave powered on all the time.
Note: You can also use the Harmony desktop app to change the power settings.
Solution #4: Resync Your Harmony Hub and Remotes
Now that you’ve changed the power settings, your Harmony Hub remote should be able to work.
If it doesn’t, we suggest your sync your Harmony Hub and remotes. It will refresh the connection of your devices and fix bugs and glitches.
Resyncing your hub and remotes also updates their firmware, so you’re essentially hitting two fixes with one step.
To sync changes using your remote:
- Navigate to Menu.
- Select Settings.
- Tap Sync Remote.
To sync changes using the Harmony mobile app:
- Navigate to Menu
- Select Harmony Setup.
- Tap Sync.
Note: When you make changes to the settings, you need to sync these changes with your Harmony remote.
Solution #5: Fix a Broken Command
If you have tried all of the above solutions but still face the same issue, there may be a broken command in your device.
If you have a broken command, you’re going to have a hard time controlling your devices. Your remote will seem unresponsive until your figure out that this needs fixing.
Here’s how to fix command on your Harmony system:
- Select the Menu icon from within the Harmony app.
- Go to Harmony Setup, then Add/Edit Devices and Activities.
- Select Devices, then choose the device you want to modify.
- Select Add or Fix Command.
- Pick the command from the list.
- Press > in the top right to continue.
Note: Harmony App will notify you once the command is recognized.
Solution #6: Factory Reset Your Harmony Hub and Remote
Restoring your Harmony Hub and remote to their factory settings should be your last resort to clearing the issue.
It deletes all data on your device, so don’t forget to back up your saved apps, documents, and more.
Here are the steps to reset your Harmony remote:
- Press and hold the Menu and Off buttons for 20 seconds.
- The remote screen will turn off.
- Switch the remote on.
Here’s how to reset your Harmony Hub:
- Unplug your hub
- Hold the Pair and Reset button on the back while plugging it back in.
- The light on the front of the hub will flash red.
- The hub will restore itself to factory defaults.
Note: Your devices will be restored to factory defaults After a few seconds. Then, you may sync again.
