We know that 5G or 5GHZ WiFi offers better performance than its 2.4GHZ counterpart. It has better signal strength and speed at short ranges.

Let’s get to know if your Harmony Hub supports 5GHZ.
Harmony Hub, unfortunately, does not support 5GHZ WiFi. It does not have the hardware to take advantage of that particular frequency. You can still take full advantage of 5GHZ WiFi by connecting your other devices. Then, on the same network, connect your Harmony Hub to them, even if it’s on 2.4GHZ.
If you have the networking hardware for 5GHZ WiFi, we recommend using it as much as possible.
However, Harmony Hub does not have the components that can connect to it. Instead, it still comes with 2.4GHZ wireless technology.
A dual-band router should allow you to connect your entire smart home setup to the frequency of your choice.
It will provide your devices with the capability of communicating with each other.
Connect your 5GHZ-capable devices to the 5GHZ network while keeping your Harmony Hub at 2.4GHZ.
You need to consider a few things before setting up your Harmony Hub. Now that we know it’s not capable of using the 5GHZ WiFi frequency, you don’t want to mix it with the 2.4GHZ frequency.
Your hardware may not be able to support it, and you will be complaining that your Harmony Hub won’t connect with your other devices.
Let’s take a look at some of the things you need to make sure of before connecting your Harmony Hub with your network and other devices.
1. Check Your Router’s Settings
Your router may use certain settings that can prevent devices from communicating with each other.
2. Router Supports Both Frequencies
Dual-band routers can broadcast your WiFi in both 5GHZ and 2.4GHZ frequencies. This should allow different devices to detect each other even if they use different frequencies.
3. Network Is Discoverable
Make sure that your WiFi network is discoverable. Some smart devices may not be able to detect your network and not connect properly.
4. Deactivate 5GHZ Mode
You can also disable your router’s 5GHZ mode completely so your devices won’t get confused.
Smart home devices need a stable and reliable connection at all times. Your 5G WiFi network is probably the best solution for this.
However, not all devices support 5GHZ WiFi. One particular system is the Harmony Hub, which only connects to 2.4GHZ WiFi. It’s not the best in terms of performance.
One advantage of a 2.4GHZ WiFi network is that it’s more stable at longer ranges, even though it’s not as fast as 5GHZ.
This feature offers better connectivity for devices that might be out of range if connected to a 5GHZ WiFi network.
Note: If your router or mesh device has 5GHZ WiFi, it also has 2.4GHZ.
Modern routers will have 5GHZ WiFi capabilities. They will also have 2.4GHZ by default allowing it to broadcast to both frequencies simultaneously.
If you have a 5GHZ-capable network and want to use Harmony Hubs for your setup, don’t worry, it’s perfectly compatible.
Here are some of the other things you can do to ensure that your Harmony Hub works as intended:
To make sure that your Harmony Hub can connect to your network and other devices on it, your router needs to broadcast at 2.4GHZ.
If it’s a dual-band device, you want to ensure that both modes are active so all your devices can connect to the network.
Here’s how to know if your router is broadcasting to both frequencies:
- Scan your WiFi networks using your phone or computer.
- Check for multiple WiFi names.
- Take note of suffixes like 2.4G and 5G. (ex. Home_5G or Home_2.4G)
- Make sure to connect your Harmony Hub to the 2.4G WiFi name.
Note: You can also search your router’s model online to see if it supports both WiFi bands.
Even when you have a dual-band router, there are instances when it can’t connect both frequencies seamlessly.
Your devices can be connected to essentially the same network, but they won’t be able to detect each other.
The best way to avoid this would be to turn off your router’s 5GHZ capabilities. This will ensure that your router only broadcasts in 2.4GHZ and connect all your devices on that frequency.
Here’s how to disable your router’s 5G WiFi feature:
- Open your router’s admin panel via your browser.
- Log in to your router’s dashboard.
- Find your router’s Wireless setting.
- Go to WiFi bands or frequencies.
- Disable the 5GHZ band.
Tip: You can search for your router’s model online to know exactly how to locate this particular setting.
If the Harmony app on your phone cannot connect to the Harmony Hub, you’ll need to find the correct WiFi and connect to it.
One way would be to use the Advanced Scan feature on the Harmony app so you can find the Harmony Hub. You can then connect them to link the other devices to your hub.
Here’s how to use Advanced Scan to connect your phone and Harmony Hub:
- Open the Harmony app on your phone.
- Go to Connect to Hub and see if your hub appears.
- If it doesn’t, tap on the ? icon on the top right corner.
- Tap on Advanced Scan.
- Connect to your Harmony Hub once the app finds it.
Note: You can also connect using your hub’s IP address if you know it.
Another option is to manually connect your phone with the Harmony app with the hub.
You’ll need to do this if your Harmony Hub cannot connect to your home WiFi, and you need to guide it using your phone.
Here’s how to connect your hub and phone manually:
- Go to the Connect Hub screen and select the ? icon.
- Tap on Connect Manually.
- Turn on Bluetooth on your phone.
- Press the Pair/Reset button at the back of your hub.
- Wait for your hub to appear on the screen and connect.
Note: From here, you’ll be able to connect the Harmony Hub to the same network as your phone. Make sure that it’s a 2.4GHZ connection.
If you have a dual-band router, you must pay attention to the smallest details and remember to connect your Harmony Hub to the 2.4GHZ WiFi.
There is room for confusion, especially if using the Harmony app to connect your hub to your WiFi network.
