Once you’re ready, let’s proceed with the troubleshooting guide!

We hope that understanding what could cause an audio problem with your Chromecast has enabled you to troubleshoot even better.
In our upcoming guide, we’ll be covering all of the causes above in exquisitely detailed solutions, so make sure to keep reading!
Let’s jump in with the guide now!
Solution #1 Restart/Change the Media!
There’s a great chance that the problem is with the media you’re trying to cast from your phone to the Chromecast.
In that regard, the first thing you should do is restart the casting session or change the media and cast a different type of video to the Chromecast connected to your TV.
- It’s recommended to change the media straight away, instead of restarting it
Let’s learn how to change the media, based on how you’re casting!
Direct Google Home Cast:
- Enter the Google Home App.
- Head to your Chromecast settings.
- Press the Cast Button to cancel the session.
- Hit the Cast button to begin casting again.
- Test the sound of your Chromecast.
Casting through a third-party app:
- Within the app you’re casting from, exit the casting mode.
- Launch a different TV show, movie, or any available piece of media.
- Press the “Cast” button to begin casting the new media.
- Wait for your Chromecast to load.
- Test the sound of your Chromecast.
For the rest of the solution, make sure that a casting session is always active.
This way, you’ll be able to constantly test the audio of your Chromecast and be able to identify an issue!
Solution #2 Sync Audio via the Google Home App
Another convenient solution is to Sync the cast’s audio, using the Google Home app’s included service.
There’s a feature that’ll allow the audio between your mobile smartphone and the Chromecast to sync until the last millisecond, so there is no frustrating cutting or fading out.
- Syncing Audio is only available with the latest version of the Google Home App!
Here’s how to sync the audio of your mobile and Chromecast:
- Launch the Google Home App.
- From the home screen, press the Gear icon.
- Select “Group Delay Correction”.
- Adjust the MS of the broadcast, using the slider at the bottom of the screen.
- Find the perfect value for the delay correction.
- Test the audio of your Chromecast.
- Turn up the MS if your audio is falling behind the video
- Turn down the MS if your audio is getting ahead of the video
This way, you’ll be able to perfectly sync the audio, to avoid any cutting or fading out of the audio due to incorrect MS settings.
Alert: Be thoughtful about how you change the MS since this greatly impacts the audio delay!
Solution #3 Software Reboot the Chromecast
The next thing you should try is to Software Reboot your Chromecast.
The software reboot is rather quick to apply and it has a great reputation for resolving both audio and video problems with your Chromecast.
You could trigger a reboot for your Chromecast, through the Google Home app on your mobile smartphone.
Here’s how to Software Reboot your Chromecast in easy steps:
- Launch the Google Home App.
- Touch your Chromecast’s title to access the settings.
- At the top right corner, press Settings.
- Scroll down and select “More Settings”.
- Double-check that your Chromecast is up and running.
- Press the “Reboot” option, under the “More Settings” tab.
- Wait…
Once the restart of your Chromecast has been triggered, it’ll take the device 1-2 minutes to complete the process. Any casting sessions will be interrupted during the reboot.
Note: Make sure to resume Chromecast’s casting once it has finished rebooting!
Solution #4 Configure TV’s Audio Settings
Perhaps, the problem is with your TV’s audio settings.
In this solution, we’ll go over some simple TV settings that could be causing interference with the audio of your Chromecast.
We’ll show you exactly how those settings should be altered, based on their current performance.
We’ll also take a look at the recommended audio settings for Chromecast on TV.
Here’s how to configure your TV’s audio settings:
- Unmute your TV
- Increase the volume of your TV
- Disable the CEC setting within the configuration of your TV
- Turn off the SAP feature in the audio settings of your TV’ setup
Once you’ve done all of the following steps, cast from your mobile phone to the Chromecast and check if there’ll be any further issues with the audio.
Make sure to avoid changing any audio settings on your TV, until the problem with the Chromecast has been identified.
Note: The TV’s audio settings will alternate with the audio settings of your Chromecast!
Solution #5 Switch the HDMI Inputs
Perhaps, there’s a fault with the HDMI Input where your Chromecast is plugged in.
As you know, HDMI both transfers audio and video so any fault with the connection may result in both video distortions and issues with the audio.
You could connect the Chromecast to a different HDMI input on your TV, to test how the sound output there.
- Unplug your Chromecast from the current inhabited HDMI and connect it elsewhere
On most modern TVs, there are up to 3 HDMI ports:
- HDMI 1
- HDMI 2
- HDMI Side
- (Optional) HDMI “3” or “ARC”
The best HDMI for audio performance is the HDMI ARC, although this is only used for audio systems.
Since you’re extracting a video broadcast from your Chromecast as well, we do not recommend connecting your Chromecast there.
Note: Once you’ve switched the inputs, choose the new source in the TV’ settings.
Solution #6 Reset your Chromecast’ Settings
If nothing worked so far, then surely, a Factory Reset should help in solving the audio issue!
This is the ultimate solution so far and many users have reported that any audio problems have disappeared after resetting their Chromecast.
That’s why your final solution shall be to reset the Chromecast to factory defaults and erase all of its established settings so far.
Here’s how to factory reset your Chromecast in easy steps:
- Make sure that the Chromecast is turned ON.
- Press and hold the Reset Button on the back of the Chromecast.
- Keep holding the button for 10-15 seconds.
- Wait for the LED of the Chromecast to blink in yellow!
- Wait for the LED to turn in orange light.
- Release the Reset Button.
- Wait…
If your Chromecast is connected to the TV, you should be brought back to the setup screen once the factory reset has been completed.
Alert: A Factory Reset will erase all software data from your Chromecast once completed.
Quick Recap:
Whenever the Chromecast sound fades in and out we need to start by rebooting the Chromecast and casting a different TV show, movie, or media.
The next step is to switch the HDMI inputs and in case this doesn’t help either, Factory Reset the Chromecast!
