But, based on the feedback of most clients, the common reasons for ceasing or stopping DIRECTV services include:
- The rate is too expensive
- Other alternatives have been found
- Moving to a new location where DIRECTV isn’t available
- No need for a DIRECTV service any longer
A lot of people said that they were able to cancel DIRECTV online. Is this true and legitimate?
Would you really be able to cancel your DIRECTV services online? If so, how do you cancel DIRECTV online?
As easy and as basic we want it to be, canceling your DIRECTV service online isn’t currently possible.
There isn’t any facility yet that allows DIRECTV subscribers and members to cancel their services online.
So, if that’s the case, what options do I have in canceling DIRECTV? How will I be able to cancel my DIRECTV services without the need to visit a store?
You might think that because you’re just canceling, it’ll be a fast and easy transaction.
But, as a part of a customer representative’s job, they need to try their best to keep your business.
So, in this guide, we’ll give you the complete list of steps on how you can successfully and effectively discontinue your DIRECTV service without setting foot outside your home!
When you call DIRECTV and you’ll make changes to the account, you need to be either the account owner or an authorized person.
This is because you need to validate the account for the DIRECTV representative to access it. These would include:
- Account Number
- Payment Due
- Bill Cycle Date
- Last Payment Made
- Current DIRECTV Plan You’re On
NOTE: You need to give them at least two (2) of these things for them to be able to access the account and make changes.
Once you have all of this information prepared, the next step is to contact DIRECTV via their hotline. You can contact them through their level 1 customer support team at 1-800-531-5000.
Alternatively, you also have the option to contact AT&T at 1-800-288-2020 if you have other questions and inquiries first and request to be redirected to DIRECTV.
Wait for an agent to pick up, and go to the next step, which is…
Once you’re speaking with the correct department, let them know that you’re trying to cancel or discontinue your DIRECTV services.
This is where all your preparations will be put to good use.
Before they can assist you any further, they’ll have to validate the account, and to do so, you have to give them at least two (2) of the information to access it.
Their job isn’t just to help customers with their concerns and inquiries, part of their responsibility is to ensure that their clients will be enticed to stay and get their services.
So, ensure that you’ll be able to overcome their rebuttals such as their services are the best, you’re bundled with your current plan, making your monthly DIRECTV payments cheaper, and the like.
If you’re really sure of canceling, then you can easily shove this off and push that you want to cancel. You don’t need to reason out why you’re canceling because you’re final with your decision.
Depending on how pushy the representative is, this would take you anywhere between one (1) to two (2) minutes.
After the representative canceled it, you should ask for a cancelation number or any type of reference to prove that the process is done.
In most cases, they’ll give you their employee numbers so that when things don’t turn out how they should, you can call in and give that reference so they can check.
To finalize the process, you need to return or send back the equipment you’ve leased from DIRECTV.
A lot of people forget this, and they become shocked when they find that they’re continuously billed.
You simply have to follow their instructions on how to return the leased equipment.
Oftentimes, they’ll send you a prepaid box and you’ll just need to drop it off at the nearest post office or courier services they’re in partnership with.
NOTE: Returning it to the AT&T store where you purchased it is not the correct way to do it. You’ll still get billed if you don’t follow the instructions accurately.
So, package it to the box you’ll be sent, and then drop it off at the nearest office that’s authorized to receive and deliver it back to the company!
Once you do all these steps, your DIRECTV service should be canceled and discontinued!
If you canceled your DIRECTV services before 7:00 P.M. EST, your cancelation will take effect immediately. On the contrary, if you called in and canceled after 7:00 P.M., it’ll be processed on the next business day.
You can also opt to have it canceled at the end of the billing cycle. For the remainder of the days that aren’t used, it’ll be prorated, and you’ll be given credits for it.
However, if you choose to end it on the last day of the billing cycle, you wouldn’t receive any prorations on the bill.
If you’re wondering how you can cancel DIRECTV online, unfortunately, there’s no way to do so. But you can still cancel it without leaving your house via DIRECTV’s customer service or retention representatives!
Hopefully, with our guide and tutorial, your mind is now cleared about how you’ll be able to discontinue your DIRECTV services!
