To resolve an internet problem with your Arris modem you can try to hard reset it and then inspect the cables. If the issue is still there, you can relieve the network, check for interference and clear the DNS in an attempt to resolve any conflicts.
Lastly, you can try to perform a troubleshooting scan and finish with a factory reset.

Why Won’t My Arris Modem Connect To The Internet?
Here are the most frequently reported issues when user’s modems cannot connect to the internet:
1. Modem problem – A hardware or connectivity issue might impact your modem’s ability to connect to the internet.
2. Cable issue – A potential problem with your modem’s wiring may as well result in no internet connection.
3. Stuffed memory – An overfilled memory of your modem might prevent your modem from connecting to the internet.
4. An issue with network head device – A problem with the network device that transmits the base network signal could be faulty for this malfunction.

How To Fix Arris Modem Won’t Connect To Internet?
Now that you’re familiar with most of the causes, you can proceed with the solutions above.
The only recommendation here would be to execute the solutions in order so you can identify the issue and hopefully prevent it from appearing in the future.
Solution #1 Power Cycle Arris Modem
Power cycling your Arris modem will drain all electricity from your device and provide a cold boot upon its next startup.
If you don’t know how to perform a power cycle, you can follow these steps:
- Power OFF your Arris modem.
- Wait for a couple of minutes for it to cool down.
- Unplug the power adapter from the power source.
- Lastly, plug the power adapter back in and power on your device.
You might as well plug your modem into a different source to evade possible malfunction with the current power supply.
Solution #2 Troubleshoot Cable Connections
As your next solution, you should verify that ALL cables that are coming out or going in your Arris modem are connected properly.
The most ethical approach when you’re concerned that it could be cable failure would be to test the cables.
If you’ve got another modem to router set up in your household it would be really easy to replace the cables and check if they work. If not, you can do the following:
- Unplug the Ethernet cable and power adapter from your modem.
- Check for hardware damage, log time twists, or pressure scars.
- Switch its ends and connect the Ethernet cable again.
The Ethernet cable between your router and modem should be connected in one of your router’s yellow inputs and in the one and only Ethernet input of your modem.
It’s hard to connect it wrong but inspect if it’s right before you continue.
Solution #3 Prevent Modem From Overheating
Sometimes there could be an internet failure if your device overheats. Here are some possible situations you can use to prevent your modem from overheating:
- Make sure your modem is in a well-ventilated area.
- Check if your router is standing on top of a heat conductor.
- Ensure that there is no direct sunlight falling upon your router, heating it up.
- Get rid of any dust near the ventilation holes on the back.
Once done with all these steps turn on your modem for about 30 minutes and touch the side panel to check if it still overheats.
If not, and it is still unable to connect to the internet, let’s proceed with the next solution.
Solution #4 Relieve Network & Scan For Issues
If Arris modem won’t connect to the internet then your network could be overloaded or there is a bandwidth issue that you can easily troubleshoot at home.
To relieve your network you can disconnect ALL other devices that are hooked up to the internet network as well as uninstall ANY potential VPN software.
Once ready, you can use the inbuilt troubleshooter to identify issues:
- Make sure that your modem to router connection is OK.
- Check if the router to PC connection is fine.
- Right-click on the network icon in the Taskbar.
- Choose Troubleshoot Network Issues.
- Wait until the algorithm is ready.
It will either tell you the exact problem (sometimes it can even automatically resolve it), or it will tell you to look online.

Solution #5 Reset DNS
If nothing has worked so far, it is most likely that you have a DNS issue, preventing the modem from connecting with your network.
By resetting the DNS, you will refresh the system data and bring your modem back online.
To reset the DNS, you can follow these steps:
- Open the start menu and select Network Connections.
- Click on the Change Adapter options.
- Find and select your network connection and go to its properties.
- From there, select Internet Protocol version 4 {TCP/IP v4) and then hit the properties button.
- Ensure you have selected Obtain IP automatically and Obtain DNS automatically selected and turned ON.
- Once done, click OK, confirm the actions, and exit.
Once the modem is back online you can test the internet (recommended to test with more than one device), and if the issue is still there let’s proceed to the last available solution.
Solution #6 Factory Reset Modem/Router
If nothing has worked so far, you may have to factory reset your modem and router afterward.
The only concern here would be that ALL settings (including WiFi) will be permanently gone so we recommend creating a backup before you continue.
To factory reset your modem, follow these steps:
Factory Reset Modem
- Power on your modem and insert a paperclip into the reset hole.
- Press the button for 30 seconds.
- Release the pressure afterward.
This will send your modem into a restart and afterward, it should boot up and be ready to go.
Factory Reset Router
You can factory reset your router online or via the hardware button. Here is how to do it via the button as it is much faster:
- Make sure your router is turned on.
- Locate the small reset button next to the restart button.
- Press it and hold it for 15 seconds.
- Once your router powers off, release the button and wait.
After a couple of minutes, your router will completely reset and hopefully, the issue will be gone for good.
