Before we proceed any further, it’s worth mentioning that the connection problem your Alexa is going through with the hotel WiFi might be their fault.
Since many people are connected to the WiFi, the connection could be unstable, therefore preventing your Alexa’s pairing.
However, there are multiple things you could try on your end so let’s go over the solutions!
Alexa Echo Can’t Connect to WiFi – Fixed in Easy Solutions!
If the setup above failed to get your Alexa Echo connected to the hotel’s WiFi, we’ll be going over a couple of things you could try.
Make sure to follow our instructions carefully and apply all of the solutions in their respective order. Otherwise, the troubleshooting may not work.
Let’s get into the guide right away!
Solution #1 Connect with the Appropriate Hotel WiFi
Especially larger hotel buildings, tend to have multiple WiFi connections, to provide sufficient coverage to all of their clients.
The password you may have gotten for the WiFi, could be for a different connection with an alternative hostname, still tied up with the same hotel.
It’s best to ask a receptionist which one of the WiFi networks is for the guests, since the staff could have WiFi of their own.
They’ll tell you the exact hostname of the hotel WiFi you must connect with along with the password.
- Once you’ve gotten the correct info, repeat the setup steps above!
Perform the same WiFi setup on your Alexa, but this time be sure to select the correct WiFi network to hook up your speaker with.
Note: if the connection was established successfully, your Alexa will make a chime sound.
Solution #2 Correct the WiFi Password
Chances are that you’re not doing the password for the WiFi correctly.
- All hotel WiFi passwords are case-sensitive so keep that in mind!
What you should do is make sure that the password you’ve acquired from the receptionist or the code from the paper piece in your room is written correctly.
Here’s how to correct the WiFi password:
- Head into the Amazon Alexa app.
- Go to Devices > “Amazon Echo” > “Change WiFi”.
- Select the WiFi that you’ve been told to connect with.
- Begin typing and be sure to also use uppercase when needed.
Most hotel WiFi passwords could also include a variety of symbols, except numbers and letters. Those must also be done, in order to complete the connection of your Echo Dot.
Note: If the password has been done correctly, a “Connecting” status will appear.
Solution #3 Hard Reset the Amazon Echo
The next thing we’ll be trying is to perform a Hard Reset on your Amazon Echo!
It is a standard way to reboot your Echo Dot speaker and a great method to resolve both hardware and software issues with the device.
Hard Reset is achieved by unplugging the targeted electrical device from power for a reasonable amount of time.
Here’s how to Hard Reset your Amazon Echo in easy steps:
- Press the Power Button on the top of the speaker.
- Hold the power button for 5 seconds, to shut down the speaker.
- Once the device shuts down, unplug the power adapter of the speaker.
- Wait for 5 minutes to discharge the Alexa device from power.
- Re-attach the power cable of Alexa back into the power.
- Let the speaker turn on by itself as a result.
Keep in mind that in order to achieve a Hard Reset/Power Cycle, you must’ve kept the Alexa unplugged for at least 5 minutes.
Plugging the speaker back into power too hurriedly will cancel the power cycle and not discharge all of the electricity.
Note: While Alexa is unplugged, it’ll not be detected by the Amazon Alexa app for a moment.
Solution #4 Place Alexa Elsewhere in your Room
We all know that public WiFis are not the best in terms of coverage and overall signal strength.
If your Alexa won’t connect to hotel WiFi, we strongly suggest placing the speaker elsewhere in your room to determine how the coverage is.
Unfortunately, if your Alexa is not connected, you’ll not be able to track the signal strength, so you’ll have to go blindly.
Try a few different positions to place the Alexa in your room and determine if the connection will go through successfully.
- It’s best to avoid placing Alexa near large furniture or something that obstructs it!
It’s best to put the speaker in an open surface, where nothing could block the incoming signal. Even in your house, placing Alexa in a tight corner could definitely kill the WiFi, especially if we talk about hotel WiFi.
Note: You’ll have to attempt a connection on your Alexa each time you place it elsewhere.
Solution #5 Reset the Alexa Speaker
If nothing worked, we suggest performing a Factory Reset on the speaker!
It’s a way to reset the software of your Alexa speaker and flush any faulty settings that could be interrupting the connection.
It’s just another method to troubleshoot your Alexa but in most cases, it’s an appropriate way to target issues with the WiFi connectivity.
Here’s how to Reset your Alexa speaker in easy steps:
- Launch the Amazon Alexa app.
- Navigate to the Devices tab.
- Press the “Echo & Alexa” icon to access further device settings.
- Select the speaker you wish to perform a reset on.
- Scroll all the way down and tap Factory Reset.
- Confirm the reset process.
- Wait…
Once the reset on your Alexa speaker has started, it’ll last for around 2-3 minutes. The status within the Amazon Alexa app will tell you where the process has reached.
Note: A reset on your speaker will flush all of the settings you’ve established.
Solution #6 Reinstall the Amazon Alexa App
If the connection of your Amazon Alexa is still not working, then perhaps you should reinstall the Amazon Alexa app.
Probably too much app cache has piled up as a result of using the app or another software problem has occurred, such as the formation of corrupted data.
- The clean reinstallation involves removing and downloading the app!
Here’s how to reinstall the Amazon Alexa app in easy steps:
- Access the Settings of your mobile device.
- Navigate to the Applications tab.
- Use the search field to locate the Amazon Alexa App.
- Highlight the app and choose “Uninstall”.
- Wait for the app to be removed from your phone.
- Shortly after the Alexa app is uninstalled, access the App Store on your phone.
- Locate the Alexa app and press the “Download” button.
- Launch the app once it has been installed and go through the setup.
Alert: You must login with your Amazon account that you’ve been using until now!
Quick Recap:
Hence, to fix when Alexa won’t connect to hotel WiFi, the best you can do is reboot your Alexa speaker, update the Alexa app and do the correct WiFi password.
After that, you could get the Amazon Alexa app reinstalled and reset the speaker. If you’re still having issues, it’s best to contact reception for info regarding the WiFi!
