Virgin 360 Recordings Not Playing – Easy Methods to Fix Error

If your Virgin 360 recordings are not playing, use the following simple solutions to fix it. We have arranged them from easiest to most complex for your convenience. 

#1: Refresh Your Internet Connection with a Power Cycle

The first thing you should do is check your internet connection and make sure it is working properly.

A simple power cycle resolves any connectivity issues that may affect your recordings. 

To do this, follow these steps:

1. Turn off your Virgin TV box and broadband router.
2. Unplug them from the power socket. 
3. Wait for at least 30 seconds before plugging them back in.
4. Turn on your router first and wait for it to reconnect to the Internet.
5. Turn on your Virgin TV box and wait for it to reboot.  
6. Play your recordings and see if they work. 

Note: Do not power cycle your devices too frequently, as this causes wear and tear on the hardware and shortens the lifespan of your router and Virgin 360 box.  

#2: Force Restart Your Virgin TV Box

If refreshing your internet connection doesn’t work, force restart your Virgin 360 box.

This will help clear any temporary bugs and glitches that prevent your recordings from playing. 

To do this, follow these steps:

1. Press and hold the power button for at least 10 seconds or until your TV box turns off. 
2. Wait for at least 30 seconds.
3. Press and hold the power button again to turn it back on.
4. Wait for your Virgin TV box to reboot and reload all the services. 
5. Try to play your recordings and see if they work.

#3: Verify Your Subscription Status

If you have a wrong or expired Virgin TV subscription, your recordings will also not play.

This usually happens when there’s a change or cancellation of your package or a billing issue with your account. 

To verify your subscription status, follow these steps:

1. Go to My Virgin Media.
2. Sign in with your username and password.
3. Click on the My Account tab.
4. Go to My Bills.
5. Click on View Bills. 

You will see a list of all your bills, including the due date and amount. Also, check if you have any outstanding accounts. 

To pay your current bill, follow these steps:

1. Go to the Virgin Media website and sign in to your account. 
2. Click on the My Account tab.
3. Go to the My Bills section.
4. Click on Pay Now.
5. Select the bill you want to pay. 
6. Choose your payment method.
7. Enter your payment information.
8. Click Pay. 

If you have checked your account and determined that everything is fine, you’re looking at an issue with your hard drive and storage space on your box and account. Proceed to the steps below to fix these issues.

#4: Check the Hard Drive Status of Your Box

Your Virgin 360 box has a built-in hard drive that stores all your recordings. There are instances when your hard drive becomes faulty and will be unable to operate normally.

Whenever this happens, you won’t be able to save or play any recordings.

To check the hard drive status of your box, follow these steps:

1. Press the Home button on your remote.
2. Go to Settings.
3. Select the System option.
4. Choose About.
5. Scroll down to Hard Drive Status.
6. Check whether it says OK or Error.

Tip: If the status of your box’s hard drive is Error, you will need to contact Virgin Media Support to replace your box.

#5: Free Up Space on Your Virgin 360 Box

If your hard drive is full, you will not be able to record new programs or play your existing recordings.

Delete or transfer some of your recordings to an external device to free up some space. 

To do this, follow these steps:

1. Press the Recordings button on your remote control. 
2. Select the show in your library and press OK.
3. Select the episode you want to delete and press OK.
4. Select whether to delete just that episode or all episodes and press OK. 
5. Repeat this process for any other recordings you wish to delete or transfer.
6. Check your hard drive status again. 

Note: If you have enough space for your recordings, you should be able to play your recordings with issues.

#6: Change Your Standby Power Settings to Fast or Active Start

The Virgin 360 box has different standby power settings that affect how it works when not in use.

If you have set it to Eco Low Power or Eco Mode, it will not record or play your recordings. Change your standby power settings to Fast or Active Start to fix this.

Here’s how to do this: 

1. Press Home on your remote control.
2. Go to Help & Settings.
3. Select Power Saving Settings.
4. Select Standby Power Usage.
5. Choose Fast Start or Active Start.
6. Press OK.
7. Your Virgin TV box will now record shows even when it’s on standby mode. 

Note: Don’t choose the Eco Start option, as it will cause issues with your TV box.  

#7: Update Your Box’s Software to the Latest Version

Like other devices, your Virgin 360 box needs regular software updates to run smoothly.

If the software is outdated, you will encounter problems with recording or playing your programs. 

To update your TV box’s software, follow these steps:

1. Press the Menu button on your remote control.  
2. Select Settings.
3. Choose System.
4. Select Software Update.
5. If an update is available, select Update Software.
6. Follow the instructions on the screen.

It will take a few minutes for the update to complete. 

#8: Adjust the Recording Options

Your Virgin 360 box has various recording options that allow you to customise how you record and watch your programs.

If these are not set correctly, it will cause problems with your recordings. 

To adjust the recording options, follow these steps:

1. Press the Menu button on your remote control. 
2. Select Settings.
3. Select Recordings.
4. Lower the Recording Quality.

If the channel guide is not updated or inaccurate, it will prevent your recording from playing or disappearing. 

To update your channel guide manually, follow these steps:

1. Press the Menu button on your remote control.
2. Select Settings.
3. Select System.
4. Select Channel Guide.
5. Select Update Channel Guide.

To set your guide to update automatically, follow these steps:

1. Go to Settings.
2. Select System.
3. Choose Channel Guide.
4. Select Automatic Update.

Note: If you recently moved or changed the channel lineup, you must manually update your channel guide. 

#10: Reset Your Virgin Media Box to Factory Settings

If none of the above solutions works, reset your Virgin TV box to its factory settings.

You should only do this as a last option, as it will erase all your recordings, settings, and preferences. 

To reset your Virgin Media box to its default settings, follow these steps:

1. Press and hold the Menu and OK buttons on your remote control simultaneously.
2. Wait for the box to reboot and the Factory Reset menu to appear.
3. Use the arrow buttons on your remote to select Reset Factory Settings.
4. Press the OK button. 
5. Enter your PIN and press the OK button.
6. Select Yes to confirm the reset, then press OK again.   

Pro Tip: Back up your data before resetting your Virgin 360 box. To do this, connect an external hard drive to your TV box, then copy your recordings and settings into it.
