Why is your Toniebox Tap not working? We have got your back!
The Toniebox is an innovative audio player for children with modern features such as tapping and titling the Toniebox to control, skip, and rewind the content.
Unfortunately, it can be very frustrating when Tap and Tilt actions stop working and you are unsure of a suitable solution.
If the Tap is not working on your Toniebox, check the Mytonies app to ensure the “Tap” and “Tilt” features are turned on. Next, try power cycling your device by flipping it down and pinching both ears for 15 seconds, and ultimately, factory reset the Toniebox.
Let’s move further!
Why is Toniebox Tilt and Tap Not Working?
The Toniebox’s tap feature is used to skip ahead or go back, and the Toniebox’s tilt feature is used to fast forward, remove the pause, or rewind the content.
Remember that your Toniebox will only respond to your Tap and Tilt when Tonie’s content has been fully downloaded and has a green LED indicator light.
If you cannot skip Tonie’s content, it could be due to different factors, so here is the list of some underlying causes:
Now that we have identified the causes let’s quickly start troubleshooting!
Toniebox Tap Not Working? – 5 Solutions to Try Now!
Tip: Test applying all of the solutions!
1. Power Cycle Your Toniebox!
Toniebox occasionally experiences glitches that prevent it from syncing with WiFi and cause problems while downloading content and tapping the Toniebox.
In such cases, restarting the Toniebox can help resolve minor glitches and restore the functionality of the features!
How to Restart the Toniebox?
- Remove your Toniebox from the station.
- Then flip over the Toniebox upside down.
- Tap and hold both ears of your Toniebox.
- Keep holding both ears for 10-15 seconds.
- Wait until you hear the restart audio signal.
- When you see the solid green light, test.
Tip: Tap any side of your Toniebox to check and identify whether it skips the content!
2. Inspect the Toniebox LED Indicator
Another thing to look for is the color of your Toniebox LED indicator light, which will help you determine the root cause of the problem.
So, let’s take a quick look at what the Toniebox light indications mean:
LED Color | Meaning |
Solid Green | Toniebox battery is sufficiently charged and is ready to use. |
Pulsing Blue | The Toniebox is in connection mode and looking for a new wireless network connection. |
Flashing Blue | Toniebox is downloading the new Tonie Content via an internet connection. |
Toniebox is searching for an available Wireless network before switching into connection mode. | |
Solid Orange | The Toniebox has a low battery! Set up your Toniebox on the charging station to charge it fully. |
Solid Red | Toniebox encountered an error and will notify you via voice message. |
Your Toniebox have a Flashing Blue Light?
If there is a flashing blue LED light on your Toniebox, wait a few minutes until the downloading of Tonie’s content ends.
Once the new content is downloaded, the blue light turns to solid green.
If you have waited long enough, but the blue light is still flashing, it indicates that your Toniebox is having difficulty looking and connecting to the wireless internet connection.
To fix this, simply power cycle your WiFi router and ensure that your wireless network is active by doing a test.
Tip: When Toniebox has a solid green light, check to see if you can skip the content by tapping!
3. Ensure the Tap & Tilt Feature is Enabled
It is essential to ensure that the tap and tilt features are enabled for your Toniebox.
To inspect these settings, you need to navigate to the mytonies app.
If the feature is already enabled, then try turning it off and then back on to give it a kind of soft reset, and perhaps, the Tap will start working.
How to Enable Tap and Tilt For Toniebox?
- Download and launch the mytonies app.
- Tap on “Collection” from the bottom right.
- Locate and press on the “Toniebox” tag.
- Choose the picture of your Toniebox unit.
- Scroll down and press “Advanced Settings.”
- Then look for the “Tilt and Tap” menu option.
- Tap on the toggle button to enable/disable.
Tip: When you finish these steps, try to sync your Toniebox with your wireless WiFi to update the changes in the Toniebox.
How to Sync the Toniebox with WiFi?
- First, power on your Toniebox player.
- Pinch one ear for at least 3 seconds.
- Wait for a sound and a flashing blue light.
Within a few minutes, your Toniebox’s flashing blue LED light turns into a solid green.
Then, test whether you can use the Tap feature, and in case it doesn’t work, continue reading ahead.
Reminder: You can only Skip, forward, and back on fully downloaded Tonie’s content!
4. Attempt By Adding More Chapters
Another reason is that you only have one uploaded chapter or content on your audiobook, which is why you cannot skip between content.
Keep in mind that by tilting, you can rewind or fast forward between one uploaded chapter but not skip!
So, you must add more chapters (content) to skip by tapping the Toniebox.
How to Add Chapters in the Tonie?
- First, open the mytonies app on your phone.
- Tap on the “Collection” from the bottom right.
- Locate and press the “Creative-Tonies” tag.
- Choose your Creative Tonie from the screen.
- Choose the option to record or upload data.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to finalize.
When the new content is uploaded to your Tonie, you need to sync your Toniebox with the WiFi by pinching one of the ears to download the new content.
Then, you can easily skip, rewind, and fast-forward your content.
5. Factory Reset the Toniebox
As a last resort, attempt performing a factory reset on your Toniebox.
Remember that this is a one-time fix but will erase all settings, configuration, and uploaded content on your device, so it’s important to have a backup of any important data.
How to Factory Reset the Toniebox?
- First, connect the Toniebox to the power source.
- Set up your Toniebox on the charging station.
- Flip both units upside down (ears pointing down).
- Then, hold both ears of Toniebox for 10 seconds.
- Wait until you hear an audio signal and a restart.
- Shortly, the Toniebox will be in a factory default state.
The next step is to re-set up your Toniebox in the mytonies app to use it.
Before setting up your Toniebox, remove it from the charging station for a few minutes and then place it back on.

- Wait for about 20 seconds to hear a second audio chime.
- Then continue and tap on “Join” in a pop-up app message.
- Select your WiFi SSID and enter the correct WiFi password.
- Wait a few minutes until you hear multiple beep sounds.
