Wondering why the Telstra TV remote not working? If so, stay with us throughout this guide!
The Telstra TV remote can become unresponsive if the batteries lack sufficient power or the IR sensors are not activating.
This guide will help you identify the cause of the sudden malfunction and provide you with reliable troubleshooting fixes to restore the Telstra remote’s functionality.
If the Telstra TV remote may stop working power cycle the Telstra remote, unplug the TV box from power, and perform the programming remote process correctly.
Let’s identify why your Telstra remote is not working!
Why is my Telstra TV Box Remote Not Working?
The Telstra remote uses standard IR technology, communicating with the TV box solely through the appropriate line of sight.
The initial step is to decipher what causes the inactivity of the Telstra remote to become more fluent in applying the troubleshooting solutions.
Here are all possible reasons why the Telstra TV remote is not working:
RF Signal Vs. IR Signal
Understanding the difference between RF and IR signals is mandatory for troubleshooting issues with the remote and managing communication.
The RF uses wireless technology, such as Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, to communicate with the box.
In contrast, IR signals use infrared technology, which requires a direct (physical) line of sight.
Telstra TV Remote Not Working – Here’s How to Fix!
Tip: Follow the solutions in the order that they are listed.
1. Discharge the Telstra Remote
The power cycle refreshes the internal components of the Telstra remote, allowing the device to re-establish a proper connection with the TV box.
The discharging is achieved by temporarily displacing the remote’s batteries from the compartment until the current completely drains out.
Info: The Telstra remote uses two triple-A batteries!
Here’s how to perform a power cycle on the Telstra TV remote:
- Open the battery compartment of the Telstra.
- Remove the batteries from the remote control.
- Hold the power button for about 15 seconds.
- Place the batteries back into the compartment.
- Test the remote’s IR signal after 30 seconds.
Note: The pairing dialogue should appear on the TV screen!
Important: Replace the Telstra Batteries
If you don’t think the batteries are in good condition or no longer functioning properly, replace the batteries.
The Telstra TV remote operates with two AAA batteries, and you must make sure only to use high-quality units such as Duracell or Energizer.
2. Power Cycle Your Telstra Box
In case Telstra is still experiencing issues with remote communication, perform a power cycle by unplugging the power cord for approximately 30 seconds.
The power circulation will not erase anything from the TV box but will reboot the operating system without the Telstra remote control.
Note: Verify that your Telstra TV box is connected directly to the power supply!
3. Reprogram the Telstra Remote
Programming the Telstra remote requires accessing the battery compartment and locating the programming button.
Conducting the pairing process again allows the Telstra remote to register a brand-new pairing profile and regain access to the Telstra TV box’s configuration.
How to Program Telstra Remote?
- Remove the battery compartment cover.
- Eject the batteries from the Telstra unit.
- Locate the programming button inside.
- Point the remote towards the Telstra box.
- Hold the Telstra button for 5-10 seconds.
- Wait until the prompt shows on the box.
After confirming the pairing procedure, press the power or “VOL +” and “VOL -” buttons to test the pairing of the Telstra remote.
If the box does not recognise the signal, re-attempt the steps. If this doesn’t help, keep reading!
4. Clean the Telstra Remote’s Hardware
Too much dirt or corrosion on the surface of the negative and positive electrical terminals can block the connection between the remote and the battery.
Hence, the further steps are to swab all debris and dust accumulation from the battery compartment of the Telstra remote control.
What Do I Need for Cleaning the Remote?
- A cleaning solution, isopropyl alcohol, is recommended.
- A cleaning material, a cotton swab or a microfiber cloth.
Here’s how to clean the hardware of the remote control thoroughly:
- Access the battery compartment of the remote.
- Remove the battery units from the compartment.
- Apply the cleaning solution to the cotton swab.
- Wipe the corrosion and dirt on the A/C terminals.
- Verify that the polarity springs are not missing.
- If the springs are bent, try to straighten them up.
Alert: Do not reinsert the batteries until the electrical poles have dried up completely!
5. Address Wireless Interference
The Telstra TV remote’s IR can be easily blocked by obstacles or devices that conflict with the signal.
Even the smallest object standing between the TV and the remote can interfere with the signal and prevent it from reaching the communication point on both ends.
Here are some tips to resolve the IR interference:
- Correct the Telstra remote control unit’s line of sight.
- Dislocate obstacles in the path of the remote’s signal.
- Remove interfering wireless devices close to the box.
- Prevent sunlight from shining on the TV box’s surface.
The wireless interference can be especially threatening to the signal sent by the remote if similar IR waves are transmitted nearby.
So, avoid keeping multiple TVs using standard IR signals in the same room and network devices that work on a similar wireless signal basis.
Tip: Try controlling the TV box with the remote while standing before it.
6. Factory Reset the Telstra TV Box
The factory reset restores the default configuration of the Telstra TV box and erases all existing remote profiles assigned to the TV box.
So, re-configuring the remote control on a freshly reset system is necessary, as particular software issues/bugs may still exist on the TV box’s system.
- Access the TV menu on the Telstra set-top box.
- Select “System” → “Advanced System Settings.”
- Find “Factory Reset” on the system settings menu.
- Type the 4-digit code to start the box factory reset.
- Press “OK” and wait until the factory reset is done.
Info: You must use the digital remote to factory reset the Telstra box (instructions in step #2)
How to Set Up a Telstra PIN Code?
If you don’t have a Telstra PIN, you can easily set one up within the Telstra app.
Simply go to “Profile”, tap “Security Settings” > “Telstra PIN”, and follow the prompts.
Once the PIN has been successfully set up, repeat the factory reset instructions to initiate the system restoration.
How to Update/Reset Telstra PIN?
You will be unable to conduct a factory reset on the Telstra box if you cannot recall the Telstra PIN or if the codec has been outdated.
To update or reset the PIN, go to Profile → Security Settings → Telstra PIN → Update PIN and follow the necessary steps for the procedure.
Tip: Write down your PIN on a note on your smartphone!
7. Use the Telstra Digital Remote (Bypass)
The digital remote can provide access to the system settings of the TV box, allowing you to perform a system reboot.
The digital remote is accessed through the Telstra mobile app and is used to navigate the TV box in case of a malfunction with the hardware remote control.
Here’s how to use Telstra’s digital remote control:
- First, download the Telstra app on your mobile device.
- After the installation, launch the Telstra mobile platform.
- Tap on the “Remote” section at the bottom-right corner.
- Connect the mobile device to the same Wi-Fi as the box.
- Confirm the prompt that will appear on the TV box screen.
- On the Telstra box, go to “System” → “System Restart.”
- Finally, confirm the reset by highlighting the “Reset” tile.
- Wait until the Telstra TV box finalises the reboot process.
Note: If the Telstra app is already downloaded, update it to the latest firmware!
How to Fix When the Telstra TV Remote Volume Not Working?
