Solution #1 Identify Sky Outages
If your phone service is down but the broadband is not interrupted, chances are that there is an Outage with the phone system.
This is often encountered even with other providers and Sky is not an exception. In that regard, you should check for outages first.
- Checking for outages with Sky could be done through their Official Website!
Follow these instructions to check the status of Sky Phone and Broadband services:
- Navigate to Sky.com.
- Head to Help > Service Status UK > Issues.
- Press on Sky Broadband & Talk.
- Enter your Landline Number.
- Press “Check”.
- Wait for the status of the servers to be displayed.
It will take a while for the Sky website to load up the results of the service status for your landline number.
You’ll know about identified outages that happened in your area in the last 24 hours.
An estimated device of the services being restored will also be included.
Solution #2 Power Cycle your Landline
One of the reasons that your phone line would become inactive is due to power issues!
The easiest way to resolve issues with your landline is to have the main phone unit Power Cycled.
This will clear up all software malfunctions in the device and will verify that all of the landline systems are working properly.
Here’s how to perform a Power Cycle easily:
- Disconnect the phone deck’s Power Adapter from the power.
- Take off the Handset from the deck.
- Eject the Batteries of the handset.
- Let the phone standby, unplugged for 3 Minutes.
- Reinsert the handset’s batteries.
- Plug the phone back into an Electrical Outlet.
- Reinstall your setup.
- Test…
The longer time you’ve kept the phone unplugged, the more appropriate it will power cycle.
However, having the phone unplugged for less than 3 minutes will not discharge the device well enough so be patient.
Note: If you’ve identified potential damages with the outlet, plug the phone elsewhere!
Solution #3 Resolve Signal Disruption
There could be devices near your phone that could cause interference with the landline!
Wireless devices can affect the signal of landline phones and prevent them from working appropriately.
Our homes are filled with all kinds of devices that send a wireless signal and therefore could impact our setup. You should move those out of your phone’s range!
The following devices could cause interference with your landline phone:
- Baby Monitors
- Microwave Ovens

Basically, your phone signal has a 5-meter range around it. Make sure that none of the following devices is in your phone’s range.
After moving all of the devices out, attempt to use the landline phone and determine if the signal is reliable.
Note: Especially if you have multiple phones in your house, put them away from each other!

- The Phone Cable that plugs your landline phone into the Sky Box
