Sky Q Box Working But No Picture On TV – Best Fix!
After finding out what could impact your Sky Box’s functionality, let’s get fixing!
To assure that you’ll end up resolving this problem, apply all of our solutions in chronological order and test your setup often.
Keeping track of the issue is the only way to also identify what’s causing it so let’s jump right in!
Solution #1 Power Cycle the Box/TV
The first thing you should attempt is to perform a Power Cycle on your Sky Q TV Box!
This will discharge the device out of leftover electricity and provide software and a hardware refresh to the box.
This is helpful, especially if the software of your TV box has bugged out and displays a black screen.
Let’s learn how to perform a Power Cycle on the TV box:
- Press the Power Button on the Sky TV Box.
- Wait for the device to Shut Down.
- Disconnect the Power Adapter of the box.
- Stand by for 5 Minutes while the box is unplugged.
- Attach the power cable to the Electrical Source.
- Turn on your Sky Q Box.
- Test…
Keeping the box unplugged for less than 5 minutes will not discharge/power cycle the TV box appropriately.
This is the least you should keep the device disconnected.
Note: The longer you’ve kept the box unplugged, the better it will discharge!
Solution #2 Select the Correct Input Source
Perhaps, you haven’t selected the Correct Input Source in your TV’s menu!
The associated TV with your Sky Q cable box has an input menu that enables you to select the current broadcast.
When the box’s HDMI cable connects to one of your TV’s ports, you must launch the input source menu and select the appropriate input slot.
Let’s learn how!
How to correct the input source:
- Check the TV’s HDMI Port that connects the cable box.
- Grab your TV Remote.
- Point it at the TV and press the “Source” Button.
- Once the menu shows up, navigate with the Left/Right Arrow.
- Highlight the HDMI Source that connects your Sky Box.
- Press the “OK” Button to make this port a broadcast selection.
- Wait for the menu to disappear by itself.
- Test…
Soon after the correct input source is selected, the broadcast of your TV box should be displayed on the TV screen. If not, keep reading!
Note: If an empty input slot is selected, the black screen on your TV will persist.
Solution #3 Reconnect the HDMI Cable
Unplug/Plug of the HDMI will solve the Sky Box working but no picture on TV issue!
If the HDMI connection was interrupted, you’ll be notified of the problem by your Sky HD Box going into a black screen and becoming unresponsive.
This doesn’t mean that the box has stopped working, but that neither the video nor sound is being transferred from the box.
Here’s how to reconnect the HDMI cable in your setup:
- Unplug the HDMI Cable from your Sky TV Box.
- Disconnect the Other End of the cable from your TV.
- Wait for 5 Minutes while the HDMI is disconnected.
- Re-install the HDMI’s first end into your Cable Box.
- Plug the other end into your TV’s HDMI Input.
- Ensure that the Correct Source is Selected.
- Test the TV box.
If the HDMI functions normally, it should be recognized by the TV upon connection.
This means that the Sky Box is now discovered by the TV and could be selected in the menu.
Alert: Replace the HDMI cable if you’ve noticed any visual damage to the body or ports!
Solution #4 Plug into a Different TV Input
If there’s a problem with the HDMI Input on your TV, the Sky Box will most likely display a black screen until this is settled.
Particular connectors on your TV could go faulty after a long period of duty, due to damaged pins and entry slots within the connector.
- Disconnect the Box’s HDMI Cable from your TV and connect it to another port
Do not apply force when connecting the HDMI cable to a new HDMI part, since this is exactly what damages the connectors the most.
The pins must be kept healthy in order for the HDMI to make internal contact with your TV and therefore connect the Sky TV box.
After connecting the Sky Box to a different HDMI input, Change the TV Source to the new one. Check the label of the new HDMI port and select it in the TV’ source menu.
Note: If the old HDMI connector seems blocked by debris, make sure to give it a cleaning!
Solution #5 Refresh the Screen’s Resolution
As we mentioned back at the beginning of our guide, both the TV and HD Sky Box must have matching resolutions.
Otherwise, there’ll be no output of your Sky Box’s broadcast on your TV’s display. However, changing the box’s resolution without a display is not possible.
In that regard, you’ll have to go into your TV settings and keep changing resolutions until the setting matches your box. If your Sky Box is HD, ensure that 1080p is selected on your TV.
On most TVs, go to Settings > Advanced > Display > Resolution!
Keep selecting the available resolution values, until a picture of your Sky Box’s broadcast is displayed. It may take a while to get the setting correct.
Go to Settings > Setup > Select Audio Visual > Picture Resolution on your Sky Box, in case you’re able to see its broadcast at times.
Note: Using the box’s settings is only possible if you’re getting a visual of the settings!
Solution #6 Reset the Sky Q Box
If nothing worked so far, it’s time to perform a Factory Reset on your Sky TV Box!
This is by far the best approach against any trouble with your cable box and it is also strongly recommended when there is no picture.
It will refresh the settings of the device’s software and also correct improper resolution setting selections.
How to Factory reset Sky Q Box:
- Press and hold the Reset Button on the back of the box for 15-20 seconds!
Make sure that you hold the button for the full duration, or your cable box will refuse to go into reset mode. The reset then takes approximately 3 minutes to complete so be patient!
Note: Once your box is reset, a picture should appear on your TV with the setup prompt.
That was everything so let’s recap all of the solutions we’ve reviewed so far!
Quick Recap:
Thus, the solution to the Sky Q Box’s black screen is to Power Cycle the TV Box and select the correct TV Input Source. Next, reconnect the HDMI cable and replace it in case it’s damaged. Finally, align the Sky Box’s resolution and carry out a Full Reset!
