Foxtel Remote Pairing iQ4 – Must Know!
Before pairing, the most important thing to know is that IR-only remotes may already work with your iQ4 box without pairing.
However, if you have a Foxtel Voice remote, you must pair the device via Bluetooth to control the box from a more considerable distance and use the voice.
The voice remote functionality requires Bluetooth pairing, and if you’re using your remote in an IR mode, you’ll lack this capability.
So Foxtel iQ4 Voice remote users must know the difference to know how important it is to pair their remotes.
Let’s take a quick look!
Foxtel Voice Remote Vs. Standard
Foxtel provides two general types of remotes: one is the Voice remote, and the other is the Standard remote.
Both remotes use Bluetooth and IR technology, allowing you to connect the way you prefer, considering that you need a direct line of sight when using an IR connection.
If we have to compare them, both remotes have differences in the button’s outline, and of course, the standard remote lacks voice capabilities.
However, the standard remote comes in two types and may only support Bluetooth (RF) connection or (IR).
Note: Only one remote can be paired to the Foxtel box at one time!
Pairing Foxtel Remote iQ4 (Voice & Standard)
If you have the Foxtel iQ4 Voice or Standard remote, follow the steps below:
1. Power On Your Foxtel iQ4 Box
The first step is to ensure that your Foxtel iQ4 box is connected to the power and working.
When the Foxtel box works correctly, you must see a blue status light on the front, indicating that the device is ready for remote pairing.
If your Foxtel box is not turned on, press the Power button on the front to power the machine on and load the operating system.
If your iQ4 TV box is malfunctioning, check the power supply or replace the cable/adapter.
Note: If you see a red light, your Foxtel remote won’t pair, so we recommend checking the Red Signal Light on Foxtel Box iQ4.
2. Insert Batteries to the Remote
The Foxtel iQ remote control uses 2 x AA batteries, which you must insert into the remote after removing the battery cover.
When inserting the batteries, pay attention to the polarity springs and whether the batteries fit correctly and tightly.
The prime indication that the remote is working would be the red light on the underside of the Foxtel box logo upon pressing a button. The light on the remote must also flash on your press.
If your remote control is not flashing, you must verify that the batteries you’ve inserted are in working order.
We don’t recommend inserting old or already used batteries to prevent issues.
If your remote is working, let’s pair it!
3. Pair Your Foxtel iQ4 Remote
It’s time to pair the remote to the Foxtel iQ4 box.
The process is straightforward, but the method differs based on whether you have the Voice or Standard remote.
So, based on your Foxtel TV box model and type, proceed with the steps below:
How to Pair Foxtel Voice Remote?
- Point the remote towards your Foxtel box.
- Press and hold the Foxtel + Select buttons.
- Hold them until the remote light blinks twice.
- You should see the message on the TV box.
The message will confirm that your Foxtel voice remote is now paired via Bluetooth.
With this type of connection, you no longer need a direct line of sight.
Hence, you can control the TV up to 10 metres without even being in the same room.
How to Pair Foxtel Standard Remote?
- On the iQ4, press the Bluetooth button.
- After pressing, the button starts flashing.
- Hold the Select button on your remote.
- Release when the light stops flashing.
Similarly to the voice remote, a message will appear on the screen.
If you don’t see a message, verify the batteries in the remote are intact and repeat the steps.
4. Test the Foxtel Remote Pairing
You can test your Foxtel remote pairing very quickly!
Press any button and watch the light at the top left corner of the remote. If you’re seeing a blue blinking light, congratulations.
You are paired. Remember that if your remote is IR-only, you must point the remote towards the TV box every time, and obstruction will impact the signal.
That was everything about the Foxtel Pairing Remote iQ4, and we recommend moving around in the menus, trying to press as many buttons as possible and learning what they do.

Reminder: You can also control your iQ4 in IR mode, but if you use a Foxtel Voice remote, you can use the voice feature!
How to Switch Between IR and Bluetooth?
If you have the Foxtel Voice remote control, you can choose how to control the iQ4 TV box.
You can either go with IR (Infrared) or Bluetooth.
The Bluetooth RF (radio frequency) allows you to control the TV from a greater distance, while the IR requires a direct line of sight.
To switch between Bluetooth and IR, you must unpair/pair the remote:
- Home + Select for 5 seconds unpairs your remote (unpaired means IR).
- Home + Select for 5 seconds pairs your remote (paired means Bluetooth).
So, deciding how you want to use your remote is up to you.
How to Use the Foxtel Voice Remote Feature?
To use the voice feature of your Foxtel iQ4 remote, hold the Microphone button and speak clearly into the remote.
The voice control can be activated anytime, and you can open any apps on your iQ4 box solely using your voice.
When you press and hold the Microphone button, you should see a small microphone icon on the TV screen.
This is an indication that the Foxtel Voice remote is not listening for a command.
Note: When you enter an app (external software), the voice feature will no longer work.
