NOW TV WiFi not working? There are many reasons for this, so let’s start an investigation!
There are two general possibilities for a fault with the NOW wireless connection. The first one is an issue with the router, and the second one is a fault with your device.
However, many factors are involved in both possibilities, so let’s learn what the solution involves…
The NOW Hub WiFi may not work due to a bug with the device’s system, a loose service cable, or an ongoing NOW Broadband outage. Also, it’s possible that the WiFi does not work due to improperly configured Wi-Fi security or a WiFi frequency synchronisation.
Stay with us to unwrap everything!
Why is My NOW TV WiFi Not Working?
There are quite a few different reasons why your NOW TV Hub wireless network is not working, and the possibilities are related to the Hub and your connection device.
To understand where the NOW WiFi issue is coming from, it’s best to take a quick look at all individual possibilities!
Here’s what may cause your NOW TV WiFi to stop working:
The bullets above don’t even include the possibility of your device failing to connect to the WiFi, so following the guide below addresses everything.
Without further ado, let’s jump in…
How to Fix When NOW TV WiFi Not Working?
Tip: Follow the steps consecutively!
1. Power Cycle Your NOW TV Hub!
The first and easiest step is to power cycle your NOW TV Hub to reset the wireless connection and resolve the problem.
The power circulation will not erase anything from your NOW TV Hub but will reset the wireless services, and hopefully, the WiFi of the NOW Hub will be accessible!
Disconnect the NOW TV Hub from the power outlet for 60 seconds!
This is enough time for the hardware components to fully discharge and start operating the way they are supposed to.
When the power cycle is over, turn back on your router and wait until the wireless network is online to attempt to access the WiFi from any of your connection devices.
Note: If the WiFi does not appear, make sure that your device supports the operational WiFi frequency of your NOW Hub’s wireless network.
2. Reconnect the NOW Service Link
Whenever the WiFi of the NOW Hub appears, but when you connect, you don’t have access to the internet, the issue is typically with the service.
So, the best solution against loss of service on your NOW Hub is to reconnect the service cable connecting the master socket with the hub!
It’s important to verify that the connection is secure on both sides and also make sure that the service cable is not damaged or defective.
So, closely inspect the connectors and ports on the main socket and the NOW hub’s back.
Info: Unplugging and reconnecting the service cable refreshes the signal.
3. Check for NOW Broadband Outage!
Sometimes, you simply don’t have an internet connection. In those cases, the WiFi from your NOW Hub will appear, and you’ll be able to connect.
However, when the WiFi is not connected to the internet, you will be offline, regardless of whether you’re connected to the WiFi or not.
This is why it’s crucial to check whether NOW broadband services are currently online and verify that there are no ongoing outages.
You can quickly check for NOW broadband outages from their Service Status Centre by clicking the “Check Service Status” button.
Info: You will be prompted to sign into your NOW account to check for ongoing service outages!
4. Update Your NOW Hub’s Security
The WiFi on your NOW Hub might not be accessible due to an incorrectly selected security protocol for the wireless network.
The only way to adjust these settings would be through the NOW admin tool, which allows users to enter the hub’s control panel and adjust the network settings.
Here’s how to correctly configure your NOW hub WiFi security:
- First, connect a device to the NOW Hub WiFi.
- Tip: You can also use an Ethernet connection.
- On this device, open any online web browser.
- In the URL field, insert “192.168.1.1” address.
- Sign in Username: admin Password: nowtv.
- From the dashboard, click on the “Wireless” menu.
- Under “Security Options,” select “WPA2-PSK.”
Switch to Another WiFi Channel!
Sometimes, the WiFi of your NOW hub will not be accessible because the current WiFi channels are overcrowded, especially if you live in a city block.
When there are many active routers in the building, the WiFi channels are typically full, so you must switch to another channel manually.
- You can switch the WiFi channel on your NOW Hub by accessing the admin tool (control panel) on a connected device.
Then, from the dashboard, you need to select “Wireless”, and from there, you will see a section called “desired channel.”
Tip: When switching from one WiFi channel to another, you don’t need to restart your NOW Hub, so feel free to cycle through different channels to see which one would work.
5. Stop the Frequency Synchronisation
Sometimes, you are unable to connect to the WiFi of your NOW Hub due to the WiFi frequency.
Some devices only support 2.4 GHz WiFi frequency, while others support both 5 GHz WiFi as well, and your NOW Hub is dual-band, meaning that you have both frequencies.
The issue in the WiFi comes due to an option “Synchronise 2.4GHz and 5GHz Settings”, which is located in the “Wireless” NOW hub section.
This feature combines your 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz WiFi into one single WiFi usable by all devices in your home, which often causes bugs!
To disable the feature, you only need to uncheck the box next to the option, so using the steps that we’ve discussed earlier sign onto the admin tool of your NOW hub.
From there, select the “Wireless” tab, then locate and disable the option “Synchronise 2.4GHz and 5GHz Settings.”
Important: After disabling the feature, you must restart your hub and set an SSID and password for the two separate wireless networks.
6. Test the WiFi on a Different Device
If you’ve tried the steps so far, but the WiFi on your NOW hub is still not working, then you must test the connection from a secondary device.
So, if you have another smartphone, smart TV or any device that can connect to WiFi, use the unit to determine the origin of the issue further.
When all of your devices can’t connect to the WiFi of your NOW hub, then the problem comes solely from the router.
In contrast, if your secondary device connects to the WiFi and is able to surf the web, then the issue is not in your NOW hub, so you must troubleshoot the old device.
Tip: Also test whether the Ethernet connection is working!
7. Close the WiFi Distance Proximity
Another reason why a certain device can’t connect to a WiFi network of your NOW hub is the distance between both units.
So, one very effective way to test this possibility is to attempt to connect the WiFi when you’re standing as close as possible to the NOW hub (within 10 feet).
If the connection works from a close, then you need to know why your NOW hub is dual-band and why there are two WiFi networks.
The slower one–2.4 GHz is the WiFi that travels further, through more walls and withstands more interference.
The 5 GHz WiFi network frequency is faster in speed but is easily impacted by solid obstructions, can’t travel further, and may not cover all rooms in your home.
Tip: Test switching from the 5 GHz WiFi to the 2.4 GHz WiFi of your NOW Hub network!
8. Factory Reset NOW Hub’s System!
Well, if nothing by far helped and the WiFi of your NOW Hub is still not working, then it’s time for the big-gun method–factory reset.
This is a process that will completely reinstall the operating system of your NOW Hub and erase all saved network settings, including the WiFi SSIDs.
Warning: The settings and configuration loss after the reset is irreversible!
Here’s how to factory reset your NOW Hub in easy steps:
- Verify that your NOW hub is connected and working.
- Then, locate the reset button on the back of the hub.
- Press and hold the reset button and observe the LED.
- The front hub LED should shortly start blinking in green.
- Don’t release the button until the light turns solid green.
- Then, wait until the NOW hub restarts and the factory resets.
Info: When the reset is over, you must configure the WiFi SSIDs and passwords through the NOW hub’s admin portal.
Quick Recap:
Hence, NOW TV WiFi not working because of a system bug or a problem with the device.
To resolve the WiFi bug, you must power cycle the hub, check the wireless security settings, separate the WiFi frequency threads and finally, perform a factory restoration.
