How to Fix When iiNet WiFi Not Working?
In the fast-paced digital era, encountering Wi-Fi issues can be frustrating and sometimes difficult to address.
So, in the guide below, we’ll unwrap the top-tier solutions for iiNet Wi-Fi difficulties.
Tip: Follow the steps in chronological order!
1. Power Cycle Your Network Devices
Sometimes, a temporal network glitch may prevent the modem from working correctly.
In such a case, performing a power circulation on your network devices is an ideal and hassle-free way to clear all temporal glitches and refresh the system.
Here is how to power cycle your iiNet network devices:
- Press the Power button on your modem to turn it OFF.
- Disconnect the iiNet modem from the electrical outlet.
- Also, unplug the NBN connection box if you have one.
- Then, wait for at least 2 minutes for a power circulation.
- Next, plug your modem and NBN box back into the A/C.
- Press the Power button on your modem to turn it ON.
Wait for the NBN box and modem lights to settle, and then check if the iiNet Wi-Fi is working. If not, there is likely a more severe issue.
So, continue reading the guide and try other solutions.
Note: This method will not erase any of your modem settings!
2. Press the WiFi Button on the Modem
You may not have noticed it yet, but some iiNet modems have a physical switch to turn their Wi-Fi broadcasting on/off.
It’s easy to overlook the switch as it is located to the side.
Therefore, ensure the Wi-Fi switch is not disabled on your modem since this is a crucial Wi-Fi requirement.
Here’s how to enable Wi-Fi on your modem using the button:
- Verify the modem is plugged in and powered up.
- Look at the Wi-Fi LED status light on your modem.
- If it’s off, find the Wi-Fi button on the modem’s side.
- Press the Wireless On/Off button to switch it “ON.”
- Wait for a few seconds and check the Wi-Fi LED.
When the Wi-Fi LED light on the modem comes up, scan the available Wi-Fi on your device and check if your network is active.
Note: If the light on your modem doesn’t appear, there’s a hardware issue!
3. Check for Any Service Outages
There is a good chance that a service outage in your area is affecting your iiNet WiFi internet connection.
To check if that’s the case, you should visit the official service status pages and, based on your findings, wait or continue troubleshooting.
Follow these steps to check for service outages:
- On a PC, open the Chrome browser.
- Go to the iiNet Network Status page.
- Then, enter your postcode in the field.
- You will need to input the Full Address.
- Lastly, tap Enter and check for outages.
Note: If there’s an outage in the area, you should wait until the service is restored.
4. Inspect the Modem Connection
One of the reasons the iiNet WiFi is not working can be a loose or damaged cable connection, as it can disrupt the signal transmission.
This is why you must check all cables on the modem and ensure that each cable is in good condition and securely plugged in without kinks or faults.
Alert: Before you start inspecting, turn off the electrical outlet connection of the modem!
Here is how to inspect the iiNet modem wiring connections:
For NBN Connection:
- Check the cable between your NBN box and the modem.
- Ensure power, phone, and Ethernet cable are plugged.
- Otherwise, disconnect all of the cables from the devices.
- Check the tips of all cables for breakage, bents and kinks.
- Then, firmly reconnect them back to their port connectors.
For ADSL Connection:
- Look for the ADSL and phone line cable connections.
- Carefully disconnect all the cables from your modem.
- Ensure that no cable is damaged or has cuts or bends.
- Then, firmly connect the ADSL and other cables back in.
Reminder: You must also ensure that the wall outlet you use for your iiNet network devices is not faulty, which may cause your device to restart.
5. Improve Wi-Fi Signal Strength
An ideal signal range of iiNet modems is 30 metres, which may sometimes be reduced due to walls or other obstacles between devices and your modem.
Even if your units are near, signal interference from other devices can still weaken the Wi-Fi strength and cause internet issues.
In that case, here are a few things that may help:
- Ensure your modem is in a central location.
- Try to place the modem on a desk or shelf.
- Move away from indoor plants or metal objects.
- Dislocate any electronics near your modem.
- Switch to 5 GHz Wi-Fi for faster Wi-Fi speed.
Tip: Do not connect too many devices simultaneously to reduce the traffic on the network!
6. Test the Wi-Fi on Different Devices
If your WiFi not working iiNet on your device or has weak signals, try connecting to the Wi-Fi using a different device.
We highly recommend you test your internet connection both ways – wirelessly and by setting up a wired connection with an Ethernet cable.
- Wirelessly – Go to the mobile Settings → WiFi → choose your iiNet WiFi → Connect.
- Wired – Get an Ethernet cable → find the “LAN” ports → connect the PC to the modem.

Then, Forget the Wi-Fi network on your device and connect again!
Info: If you have internet access on your wired unit, then your broadband service is working, and you can tighten the circle of possibilities down to Wi-Fi issues.
7. Update the Wireless Adapter Driver
Sometimes, the iiNet Wi-Fi is not working because of the Wi-Fi devices and not your modem or service connection.
The wireless adapter on the device could be an external dongle or an inbuilt LAN card, and in both cases, you may have to update the device driver to connect successfully.
Note: The steps below apply to Windows-operated machines!
Here is how to update the wireless adapter’s drivers:
- On your computer, go to “Device Manager.”
- Locate “Network adapters” and Expand it.
- Look for the network adapter for your Wi-Fi.
- Select the prompt, and then “Update Driver.”
- Click on the “Search Automatically” button.
Tip: If your PC has multiple network adapter drivers, choose the one with the “Wireless” label!
8. Remove & Renew Your DNS Cache
If your iiNet Wi-Fi is still not working, perhaps the issue comes from a DNS error on your device.
The DNS cache on your device keeps track of IP addresses and is linked to the service modem.
There are cases when the cache becomes corrupted, leading to connectivity issues such as 404 errors.
The best solution is to remove and renew your DNS cache, which solves the problem.
Here’s how to renew the DNS cache on a Windows-operated machine:
- Right-click on the Start Menu in the Taskbar.
- Open the “Command Prompt” as an “Admin.”
- Type “ipconfig/flushdns”, then press Enter.
- A confirmation prompt will pop up in the CMD.
- Then, type “exit” to close the Command Prompt.
Tip: Restart your computer and iiNet modem, then check to see if the Wi-Fi is now working!
9. Factory Reset the iiNet Modem
When you have tried every step, but your iiNet Wi-Fi is still not working, simply perform a factory reset to solve any system-related issues.
This reset will revert the modem config to default and give you a fresh start with no bugs.
Here’s how to factory reset the iiNet modem in easy steps:
- First, plug your iiNet modem into the A/C supply.
- Look for the Reset button on the modem’s back.
- Hold the Reset button with a paperclip or needle.
- After about 8 seconds, release the Reset button.
- All lights will illuminate, and the modem will reboot.
You should have to wait for the modem to finish rebooting. After that, set up your modem again and double-check the cable connections.

Warning: After the reset, all your modem Wi-Fi, Proxy, Access Control and DNS settings will be erased and cannot be recovered.
