Foxtel iQ4 Recording Issues – Explained
The Foxtel iQ4 is an HD DVR that lets you watch and record TV shows, movies, and sports from the Foxtel’s library.
So, while the iQ4 is a powerful and versatile device, it can sometimes experience recording issues, which is quite frustrating.
Here’s what may be causing recording problems on your Foxtel iQ4 box:
How to Fix the Foxtel iQ4 Recording Problems?
Note: Follow the steps consecutively!
1. Reset the iQ4 PowerPoint
Resetting the iQ4 PowerPoint is one of the best working methods against all your software or hardware issues.
This essentially includes turning off the TV box and then back on, which helps clear out any temporary memory and refresh the software.
To reset the Foxtel iQ4, you can follow these steps:
- Switch off the Foxtel iQ4 at the PowerPoint.
- Unplug the cord from the iQ4 and the outlet.
- Wait for at least 30 seconds while unplugged.
- Plug the power cord back into the iQ4 TV box.
- Press the Foxtel button on the iQ4 box remote.
This should initiate the reset process. Once the box is back on, wait a few minutes and try re-recording a program.
Hopefully, after resetting, the device will be able to record again. If the problem persists, try other troubleshooting steps.
Note: This process will not erase anything!
2. Try to Record Something Else
Before diving into more complex troubleshooting, a quick and easy step to attempt would be to switch to another live stream or on-demand content.
It’s not excluded that the recording issue on your Foxtel iQ4 comes due to the broadcast and not because of your box, so it’s worth trying.
If you were attempting to record on-demand, try recording live:
- On your iQ4, go to the Digital TV Channel Guide.
- From there, find a program that you want to record.
- Use the “Select” remote button to open a synopsis.
- Select episodes or a movie and select the “Record.”
Note: Be aware that it may take up to 25-30 minutes for the content to be recorded and saved into the hard-drive storage of your iQ4 receiver.
3. Re-attach the Wire Connections
Another possibility can be that there could be a fault with the physical HDMI or service cable connection between the TV and the iQ4 cable box.
Therefore, we highly suggest disconnecting everything and re-attaching from scratch to reset the connection.
Here’s how to re-attach the cable connections in easy steps:
- Locate the “Coaxial” port and unplug the Coax wire.
- Remove the HDMI cable from your TV and iQ4 box.
- Wait for 60 seconds while the cables are unplugged.
- Firmly re-attach the Coaxial cable back into the port.
- Also, firmly reconnect the HDMI cable on both sides.
- Choose any show and test the recording functionality.
Reminder: While re-attaching the cables, don’t forget to inspect the entire cable and connectors for any fault or damage.
4. Clear the iQ4 Disk Space Storage
Your Foxtel iQ4 box has a limited amount of storage space for recordings.
Hence, if you are experiencing recording failures, then clearing the disk space might help.
Therefore, go to the recording library on your TV and delete some of the shows you’ve watched to free up the space.
Here are the steps to delete the iQ4 recordings:
- Grab the TV box remote control.
- Then, press the “Library” button.
- Go to the “Recorded” menu tab.
- Select the TV shows for deletion.
- Hit the yellow circle icon to remove it.
Tip: To preserve your recordings, copy them to an external hard drive to keep anything you want and still free up storage on your iQ4.
5. Check for Scheduling Conflict
If you are experiencing recording conflicts, such as two programs being scheduled to record simultaneously, then you should delete the conflicting schedule.
This will prevent your TV box from trying to record at all and resolve your Foxtel iQ4 recording issues.
Here are the steps to check for conflicting videos:
- Push the Library remote button.
- Go to the “Scheduled” menu tab.
- Highlight the conflicting show.
- Hit the yellow circle on the remote.
- Choose “Yes” to delete the show.
The show will be deleted from your scheduled recordings and will no longer conflict and cause, so wait for another schedule to kick in and test.
If your iQ4 still refuses to record, keep reading!
6. Update Foxtel iQ4 Software
Keeping your iQ4 box updated with the latest software is crucial, as it includes new features and fixes for known bugs.
If you are still experiencing recording failures, this may be due to outdated software, and updating the software versions may help.
To update your iQ4 TV box, follow these steps:
- Make sure your iQ4 box is powered ON.
- Press the standby button for 10 seconds.
- Wait for the button to go red and then blue.
- Quickly press the Standby button 3 times.
Once you’re done, you should get a blue on-screen prompt on the TV saying updating system software.
Depending on your internet speed, this can take up to 15 to 30 minutes or more.
Once the update process is complete, test the iQ4 recording functionality!
7. Format the iQ4 Box Hard Drive
If you can’t record on your Foxtel iQ4 TV box, you may need to format the hard drive, which will erase only your recordings, but all settings will remain intact.
This is one of the most effective methods against recording issues with iQ4, so if you want to back up any existing recordings, transfer them to another drive.
Here’s exactly what to do to reset the Foxtel iQ4 hard drive:
- First, click the “Active” button on the remote.
- Then, select “1-System Setup” from the menu.
- Using the Foxtel iQ4 remote, press “0-6-6-1”.
- When the prompt appears, confirm to proceed.
This will start formatting your Foxtel iQ4 and should resolve your recording problem.
So, go ahead, select a movie or TV show and start recording to check how this goes.
Reminder: Your scheduled recording sessions will also be erased!
8. Factory Reset the iQ4 TV Box
If you have applied all methods and the recording issue persists, you can attempt performing a factory reset on your Foxtel iQ4 as a last resort.
This will delete all personalised settings configurations and recordings, so be sure to back up your recordings before you do this.
Here are the steps to factory reset your iQ4 box:
Using Foxtel iQ4 TV Box:
- Locate the “Reset” button underneath your TV box.
- Info: The Reset button is located in a small pinhole.
- Use a pointy-ended tool that can reach into the hole.

- Next, scroll down to the “Advanced Settings.”
- Type “0-6-1-1” on the screen and then hit “Select.”
- Go to the new option or Installer Setup option.
