Well, if your Yealink phone not turning on, this guide will assist you in eliminating the problem!
While the power setup depends on the type of Yealink you have, all VoIP phones use standard signal conversion technology or “PoE” installations.
So, diagnosing what causes Yealink’s startup issues includes inspecting the supply, the service, and the integrity of your system.
Let’s have a look at the potential solution:
If the Yealink phone is not turning on, power cycle your handset or unplug the landline’s base from the supplying outlet.
If the issue persists, install the phone in a different outlet, check the service connection, and forcefully update the firmware.
That’s just the start, so let’s learn more!
Why My Yealink Phone Won’t Turn On?
Does Yealink Use Constant Power Supply?
There are two types of Yealink phones:
- A VoIP landline phone unit
- A VoIP handset phone unit
The landline business phone uses a persistent power supply through a standard A/C adapter, while the handset’s battery recharges from the base.
Also, both must be service-connected and have a standard dial and settings menu.
Note: The handset uses a built-in rechargeable battery that refills while connected to the base!
Yealink Phone Not Turning On – Quick & Efficient Steps
Tip: Follow the instructions in a consecutive chronology!
1. Power Cycle the Yealink Handset/Base
You can address non-lasting issues with Yealink phones by power cycling the handset or VoIP base of the phone.
One of the primary suspects for Yealink’s startup faults is an unstable power supply and by power cycling the Yealink phone, you will do a full circulation of your hardware.
Let’s learn how to power cycle a Yealink handset phone first!
How to Power Cycle a Yealink Handset Phone?
- Remove the Yealink phone from the powered handset.
- Unplug the handset’s power cord from the rear panel.
- Disconnect the other end of the cable from the outlet.
- Wait for 60 seconds while the handset is unplugged.
- Re-install your supplying cable of the handset back in.
How to Power Cycle a Yealink VoIP Landline Phone?
- Detach the handset from the phone’s base unit.
- Unplug the handset cord from the base’s back.
- Uninstall the phone’s power cable on both ends.
- Wait for 60 seconds while Yealink is discharging.
- Reinstall Yealink’s handset and power cord again.

2. Alter Yealink’s Electrical Outlet
To function properly, your Yealink VoIP phone requires a consistent electrical charge with no interruptions of the base or the A/C outlet.
That’s why the next step is to ensure that a sufficient amount of power supply is delivered to your Yealink phone by altering the used electrical outlet.
So, relocate the power and/or service cord (PoE) setup into a new outlet and test the electrical functionality.
So, remove the handset, wait for a few seconds, and place it back onto the base to resupply the power voltage to the rechargeable battery unit.
Notice: Check if the current outlet of the Yealink phone’s power is controlled via an A/C switch.
How to Detect Electrical Outlet Issues?
To determine if a particular outlet is fit to supply enough power for your phone, test any other electrical appliance besides the phone, such as an electrical lamp, toaster, or phone charger.
Wait for a few seconds to determine if the power conducted by the outlet is consistent and if not, it is best to consult with a technician.
Alert: A malfunctioning outlet may severely impact the functionality of the connected device!
3. Uninstall Third-Party Equipment
The Yealink phone may fail to turn on and function properly due to power insufficiency caused by malfunctioning third-party equipment.
Well, any external jacks, connectors, extenders, and any type of strips can impact the performance and power withdrawal of your Yealink phone.
To determine if Yealink is receiving a sufficient amount of power supply, you should install the phone’s power cord directly into a power outlet.
- Avoid using any third-party equipment for power cord extension purposes or splitting an outlet into several nests.
How to Test Any Third-Party Power Equipment?
So, to determine if the third-party equipment used in the power setup of your Yealink phone is defective, test it using your smartphone’s charger or any low-voltage device.
The electrical appliance you’re testing with must also be with proven functionality and the voltage requirement mustn’t be over 15–20 volts on 0.5/1A.
Warning: Defective third-party equipment may cause issues with the connected device!
4. Reinsert Yealink’s Battery (Handset Phone)
If Yealink not turning on, the next thing you should check is whether the internal battery of the handset is charged to a sufficient capacity.
Often, an improper connection between the handset and the base unit will prevent Yealink’s battery from refilling, even if the power cord is secured.
Here’s how to access and remove the rechargeable battery of the Yealink handset:
- Remove the Yealink handset from the charging base.
- Locate the battery latch on the bottom of the phone.
- Pull open the battery compartment cover from Yealink.
- Eject the battery from the handset and wait 60 seconds.
- Place the battery back into the handset to restore power.
- Next, position the handset back onto the charging base.
Unlike a standard landline installation, the Yealink handset uses a rechargeable battery and can be used away from the base.
Thus, upon placing the handset onto the charging mount, it takes between 1–2 hours for the internal battery to charge fully.
Note: You can track Yealink’s battery through the digital interface!
5. Reinstall the Service Connection (PoE Setup)
Unlike in standard installation, a “PoE” service setup does not require a power adapter for the handset as power is delivered directly through the RJ connection.
The service cable connects with a landline “phone” outlet on the other end and supplies both service and power via the A/C.
To reinstall the service connection of the Yealink device, unplug the RJ cable from the rear panel of the base and disconnect it from the outlet.
While unplugged, check if the telephone outlet has an activation switch and reseat the cable back into the connector.
How to Set Up Yealink’s Service Connection?
To deliver service to the Yealink landline or handset, the device must be physically connected to a service outlet or a SIP server based on the installation.
In most office business installations there will be expansion servers if a large number of phones have to be wired simultaneously.
Alert: A loose or unstable service connection will prevent Yealink from ringing and dialing!
6. Set Up a Yealink Firmware Recovery (Advanced)
If the Yealink phone is still refusing to start, there’s a good possibility that there’s an integrity issue with the firmware image of the Yealink phone.
You can upgrade and repair the firmware of the phone with the assistance of a TFTP server and some essential networking knowledge.
Remember that if Yealink refuses to start due to a power issue or a malfunction of the hardware, you will be unable to repair the firmware’s files.
How to Set Up a TFTP Client On Windows 10/11?
Setting up a TFTP server is necessary for transferring files between devices under the TCP/IP protocol.
Well, by default, Windows supports TFTP, but you must activate it manually within the settings.
Let’s learn how:
- Open the Windows Search menu and type “Control Panel.”
- Go to “Programs” → “Programs and Features” from below.
- Activate “Turn Windows features on or off.” and scroll down.
- Next, locate the “TFTP Client” option and activate it manually.
Alert: The Yealink phone and your computer device must be wired via Ethernet to transfer files!
How to Recover Yealink Phone Firmware?
- Navigate to Yealink’s Phone Firmware page on the website.
- Choose the model of your business phone and tap “Next.”
- Click the download link to install the latest phone firmware.
- Next, upload the firmware file within the TFTP server client.
- Next, put all the files into the Yealink phone’s system directory.
Note: If Yealink detects the new firmware package, it will start updating automatically!
Quick Recap
If the Yealink phone not turning on, alter the base’s electrical outlet, inspect the condition of the power cord, and reseat the handset’s battery.
Also, if the issue continues, uninstall defective third-party equipment and rebuild Yealink’s firmware.
